INVITATION
Dear Soling Sailors!
The Sailing Club Ebensee is ready to host the
Soling European Championship 2016 from May 2nd until May 6th.
Lake Traunsee is well known in the sailing world. Hosting the RC44 Austria Cup five times in a row, the world’s best sailors, such as Russell Coutts,
Terry Hutchison, Paul Cayard and Ray Davis sailed there and elected the lake as the best competitive RC44 tour stop. Since 2013 the GC32 Class is sailing on Lake Traunsee for the GC32 Austria Cup. An international high class sailing event with world class sailing Teams like Alinghi, Oman Sailing and Spindrift and a multifaceted supporting program.
In the morning hours the famous “Oberwind” will provide perfect sailing conditions for early birds. At noon the wind shifts to north direction, again a thermal breeze which is called “Niederwind”.
The date of the Soling European Championship fits perfectly as a kick-off for the annual “Traunsee Week” (May 5th - 8th) – a sailing event of several days duration
taking place at Lake Traunsee, hosting 15 boat classes all over the lake. Due to this fact and the successful partnership of the five sailing clubs in the cities of Gmunden,
Altmünster, Traunkirchen and Ebensee, Lake Traunsee is the perfect spot for running the Soling European Championship.
The well proved cooperation of the organizing authority (SCE) with PROFS as the
professional organizer of the “Traunsee Week” and as service provider for sales, sponsoring and marketing and the media part of this European Championship will be covered and will guarantee a maximum output to all media, both national and international.
We would like to invite you to this festival of Sailing! Lake Traunsee is ready for you and the Soling European Championship! With sportive regards,
Lake Traunsee…
...is waiting for you!

Lake Traunsee
With thermal breezes, lake Traunsee will provide challenging sailing conditions. Generally there are 3 wind directions.
1. From 5 am to 10 am the south wind offers ideal conditions with the famous “Oberwind”.
2. At approximately 11 am the wind direction changes to
“Niederwind” by 180 degrees to north and will blow constantly till late afternoon.
3. In case of low pressure and/or rain most of the time the general weather situation implicates wind from the west.
According to the experience of the “Traunsee Week” the whole lake can be split into 3 race areas.
Race Areas
Race Area – North
With strengths up to 20 KNT’s
Challenging sailing conditions
