03 MARCH 21, 2021 - FIFTH SUNDAY OF LENT

This Lenten season is an opportunity for our Parish to

grow our vital ministries, explore new ways to share the good news of Christ’s love, and reflect His care and mercy to those in need throughout the community. To continue to make a difference in 2021, St. Mark is reaching out to our parishioners.

During Lent, we hope there is growth in eGiving to help sustain and build ministries throughout 2021 that reflect the promise of God’s love. The need is great in our St. Mark community, and your generous online gifts will help people all around us.

We prayerfully request that you consider signing up for eGiving from your computer, smartphone or tablet. You can set up a recurring donation or make a one-time gift. Sign up today by visiting faith.direct/FL738.

Thank you for your continued support of our parish family.

God Bless You, Fr. Dan

3- O Lord, once lifted on the glorious tree, your death has brought us life eternally. 4- So shall our song of triumph ever be: praise to the Crucified for victory.

Communion Hymn - Bread Of Life (Farrell)

Refrain:

Bread of life, hope of the world, Jesus Christ, our brother:

feed us now, give us life, lead us to one another.

1- As we proclaim your death, as we recall your life, we remember your promise to return again.

2- The bread we break and share was scattered once as grain: just as now it is gathered, make your people one. 3- We eat this living bread, we drink this saving cup: sign of hope in our broken world, source of lasting love.

4- Hold us in unity, in love for all to see;

that the world may believe in you, God of all who live.

Closing Hymn - Led By The Spirit (Hurd)

1- Led by the Spirit of our God, we go to fast and pray With Christ into the wilderness; we join His paschal way.

"Rend not your garments, rend your hearts. Turn back your lives to me." Thus says our kind and gracious God, whose reign is liberty.

2- Led by the Spirit, we confront temptation face to face, And know full well we must rely on God's redeeming grace. On bread alone we cannot live, but nourished by the Word.

Fifth Sunday of Lent

Welcome and Congratulations!

This weekend, we welcome Most Rev. Gerald

M. Barbarito, D.D., Bishop of Palm Beach and Fr. Brian King, the secretary to Bishop

Barbarito, who join us this weekend to

celebrate the 12 Noon Mass and to confer the Sacrament of Confirmation upon forty-one candidates.

We also congratulate our forty-one

candidates, their sponsors and families as they complete the Sacraments of Initiation.

Come, Holy Spirit and fill these young men and women with your gifts!

This Sunday during the 10:00 a.m. Mass our catechumens and candidates will share in the Third Scrutiny in preparation for their full entrance into the Church during the Easter Vigil.

The Days are coming, says the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the House of Israel. With these words, the Prophet

Jeremiah proclaims to the people the ever abiding presence of God with His people. These words are just as valid today as they were when they were first uttered 2,500 years ago. In this Scripture passage, the essence of the covenant, I will be your God, you will be

my people, is uttered and proclaimed not

only for the Israel of old, but for you and I as well.

The word covenant is a word we hear often, but is greatly misunderstood or confused with the word, contract. Normally, the parties of a contract are equal in their knowledge and

perception. Each party promises to fulfill to the best of their ability the requirements or conditions mentioned. The dividend is the fruit of the contract. The most common of contracts are when one purchases a car, a house, obtains insurance and the like ... Covenant, goes beyond a contract in

understanding and perception. A covenant is on a different level altogether. It is sacred because a covenant includes God (or a representative of God, like the Church) as a party in the covenant. During the Ancient Kingdom of Israel, the covenant existed between God and the People of Israel. This covenant to the Jewish was likened to the Marriage Covenant. God is considered the Groom. The Bride is Israel. There are promises or vows made. These call forth knowledge, wisdom and assent.

There are several elements necessary when forming a covenant with God. First and

foremost is the freedom to freely choose God. I have often told people that a Sacrament cannot be conferred on someone who refuses to accept it. Another important facet of

entering into a covenant, is there must be at least a minimum of understanding of what the covenant entails. In other words, a covenant is not a free-for-all. But conditions must be adhered to in order to enjoy the fruits of the covenant.

In the Gospel today, Jesus reveals to His disciples that the covenant with God is like that grain of wheat that falls to the earth, dies and bears much fruit. These words might cause some to have anxious moments and perhaps even fear, but in the end, great things will be accomplished.

Brothers and sisters, while we have time, let us do good!

how through Lenten alms, we

have the power to make the world

a better place for all.

CRS Rice Bowls have been made available to the parishioners at St. Mark

since the First Sunday of Lent. There are still some in the Narthex.

The Rice Bowls will be collected at the church on Palm Sunday weekend.
