IMPORTANT NEW PRESS APPLICATION POLICIES
Due to increasing demand for complimentary press badges and a limited
amount of badges available, Comic- Con International has revised the
guide-lines to qualify for a Comic -Con 2016 press badge.
Please be sure to read this entire PDF carefully before submitting
your application for consideration.
The Comic-Con 2016 press application period will open OCTOBER 7, 2015
.
The application deadline is DECEMBER 11, 2015. All applications and
supporting verification materials must be postmarked or emailed by this date.
Important Guidelines to Consider When Applying:

There will be no onsite registration for press.
•
Each press applicant must provide his or her own Member ID, application and verification materials.
Multiple applicants may not apply with the same Member ID.
• Tumblr accounts, social media sites, and community forums will NOT be considered for press badges.
• Information on how to update your outlet information can be found on page 2.
• Approved freelance applicants will only be valid for the year applying.
All press applicants fall into one of two categories:
First-Time Applicant
or
Returning Press.
To determine
your category, log in to your Comic-Con Member ID account at

If you are returning press, your member class will be “Press” and your press verification status will be “DUE” or
“NOT DUE.” If you are a first-time press applicant, no press verification status will be displayed.
FIRST TIME APPLICANTS
If you have never attended Comic-Con as a member of the press, or if you have attended under a different category but are now working as press, you are a first-time applicant. Before you apply as press, please read the press qualifications on page 3. Once you have confirmed that you meet the required qualifications, complete the “Comic-Con 2016 Application for Press” on page 6. Your application and verification materials must be postmarked or emailed by December 11, 2015. Applications sent after this date will not be considered. For information on verification material requirements, please see pages 4 and 5.
Once you have submitted your application and verification materials please allow eight to ten weeks for processing and review. You will be notified via email if you are approved or declined. If you do not receive a response from Comic-Con within eight to ten weeks, please contact [email protected] with your Member ID and the date your application and verification materials were submitted.
RETURNING PRESS
Those who have previously applied and were approved as press are considered returning press for Comic-Con 2016. All returning press fall under one of two categories: returning “DUE” and returning “NOT DUE.” To check your current press verification status, please log in to your Comic-Con Member ID account at https://secure2.comic-con.org/memberid/
Your press verification status will be displayed as “DUE” or “NOT DUE.”
RETURNING PRESS DUE & RETURNING PRESS NEEDING TO UPDATE COMPANY INFORMATION
Comic- Con requires that all press submit verification materials every two years, unless requested earlier by Comic Con International or if your company information needs to be updated. If your current press verification status is “DUE,” or you need to update your company information, you must complete the “Comic-Con 2016 Application for Press” on page 6. Your application and verification materials must be postmarked or emailed by December 11, 2015. Applications sent after this date will not be considered. Comic-Con International strongly recommends that you email your press application and verification materials. Should you choose to mail your application and verification materials, we suggest that you send them via FedEx, USPS Certified mail, or any service which provides a delivery receipt. Comic-Con International is not responsible for lost applications and/or materials that were sent without tracking or delivery confirmation.
REMINDER:
If there are multiple staff members from your outlet applying, you must check
the “I am applying along with other members of an Outlet/Company” box on the
“Comic-Con 2016 Application for Press”. Additionally, all applications and verification materials
of those applying within your outlet must be submitted in one email or one post mail
package. Failure to submit all applications and verification materials from your outlet in
one package or email may delay the review of your outlet’s applications.
PRESS QUALIFICATIONS
Each year Comic-Con International welcomes members of the press from all over the world. Although requirements vary, Comic-Con will consider applications from press in the comic book, book publishing, animation, film, television, gaming, and other pop culture related industries. All press applicants must be currently employed or on assignment by the outlet they are representing and each applicant and/or crew member must submit their own application and required verification materials.
In general, press applicants fall into one of five catego-ries: print, online, freelance, broadcast, and podcast/ blog. Tumblr accounts, social media sites, and communi-ty forums will not be considered for press badges. Doc-umentary crews do not qualify for complimentary press badges. However, each crew member may still submit the “Comic-Con 2016 Application for Press” and, if approved, will be given the option to purchase badges. To meet the press application requirements, please find your category on the following pages and submit the appropriate verifi-cation materials.
PRINT PRESS
(Periodicals, Newspapers, Weeklies & Magazines):
If you are applying as print press, you must be currently employed by the outlet you are representing and you are required to mail or email the following:
• At least THREE industry related bylined (credits your name) articles or photos published within the last 6 months. Please mail or email actual periodicals, newspapers, weeklies and/or magazines with your name highlighted. Unfortunately, we cannot issue press badges to printers, print brokers, or members of the print press who are not journalists.
OR
• A copy of your company’s current masthead, which clearly displays your name and editorial title.
ONLINE PRESS or FREELANCE JOURNALIST/PHOTO-GRAPHER/VIDEOGRAPHER
(Print & Online)
If you are applying as online press or a freelance journalist/ photographer/videographer, you must be currently employed with/hired by the outlet you are representing and you are required to mail or email the following:
• At least THREE industry related bylined (credits your name) articles, photos and/or videos published within the last 6 months. Please email or mail the links of the entire articles, photos, and/or videos with your name highlighted.
AND
• A signed assignment letter (on company letterhead) from the editor stating your assignment and request to cover Comic-Con 2016 on their behalf.
PODCAST or BLOG
If you are applying with a podcast or blog, you must be currently established and continuously contributing to the outlet you are representing and you are required to submit the following:
• At least THREE industry related podcasts or blog entries from an established outlet within the last 6 months. Please email or mail the links of the podcast /blog entry crediting your name
AND
• A link to the outlet’s list of archives showing activity from the last 18 months along with a link to your own contributions. We consider the frequency and consistency of your site’s updates along with the frequency of your own contributions.
DOCUMENTARY
Script, outline, treatment and/or webpage of proposed documentary. Please be specific as to what you hope to record. Additionally, include crew size and equipment.
REMINDER: Documentary crews do not qualify for complimentary press badges. However, each crew member may still submit the Comic-Con 2016 Application for Press and, if approved, will be given the option to purchase badges. Please follow the submission guidelines for outlets/companies on page 3. Due to the volume of inquiries, not all documentary requests can be accommodated.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
As always, the issuance of a press badge is at the sole discretion of Comic-Con International. Please be respectful of all our attendees. A Comic-Con press badge is provided as a courtesy to cover the event. Comic-Con does not tolerate cov-erage that includes stunt type events, ambush interviewing or any sort of action that could make any of our attendees feel unsafe or uncomfortable.
PLEASE NOTE: Names, outlets, titles, and email addresses of approved and registered Comic-Con 2016 press will be made available to studios, exhibitors, programming participants, etc. prior to the convention (COMIC-CON 2016 PRESS LIST).
