Reason for action
In response to 2007 Sunset Bill (HB2426) for the Texas Board of Nursing (BON) beginning in 2015, graduation from a diploma program of study leading to initial RN licensure must entitle the graduate to an academic degree; the
Covenant School of Nursing and Lubbock Christian University Department of Nursing propose a program partnership. These two programs are the first to form a partnership of this type in the state of Texas. Both organizations would like to stress the word “Partnership”. This is not a merger because both entities will retain their own identity. This partnership supports the Regionalization Efforts for the Strategic Plan for State of Texas to Meet the Nursing Workforce Needs of 2013. Also this partnership offers students educational progression in a timely manner with a logical transition to advance practice roles if the student so desires. We are forming a united front to benefit future nursing students. The Texas Board of Nursing has commended us for our innovative approach to helping students achieve a higher level of education. We are dedicated to providing future nurses the best education and real-‐world experience they can receive.
Details about transfer credits
Covenant and LCU will accept transfer courses for the prerequisites from regionally accredited universities or
colleges. All prerequisites must meet minimum requirements as stated on the prerequisite page. Transfer credit for our summer requirements of Genetics and Statistics can also be requested if those courses have been completed prior to enrollment. Dual Credit and Clep Credit are accepted for any courses that are transcribed on a regionally accredited college or university transcript.
Beginning the Partnership
This partnership begins when the student enters Covenant School of Nursing. Upon acceptance, students complete our 2 year program (including 4 summer courses if needed) and are then eligible to take the National Council
Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-‐RN). This readies the student to begin Lubbock Christian School of Nursing to obtain their Bachelors Degree in Nursing (BSN). This process takes 2 semesters and once the student successfully completes LCU’s requirements they are awarded their degree.
