Scholarships and Awards Program
All scholarships and awards will be applied to the 2014-2015 academic year (Fall 2014; Spring 2015). The listed scholarships and awards may be used in combination with other HPU scholarships being offered through the University. HPU students may only qualify for one (1) HPU funded scholarship listed below. Scholarships and awards are tuition-waivers to be utilized during the fall and spring semestersof2014-2015.
College of Business Administration
Aston Hotels and Resorts Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded to two undergraduate students majoring in the Travel Industry Management (TIM)
program. Applicants must complete at least two semesters at HPU and also maintain a minimum 3.00 GPA. At least one recipient must be a permanent resident of Hawai`i. Preference is given to those who demonstrate financial need. This scholarship is funded annually at the discretion of the donor.
Scholarship value: Up to $2,000 awarded to each recipient.
Conrad W. Hewitt Accounting Fund Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded to a full-time undergraduate who is a Junior or Senior majoring in Accounting. Applicants must have a 3.50 GPA. Scholarship is
renewable for an additional year provided the recipient is a Junior. Eligibility for renewal (Senior year); student must maintain a 3.50 GPA.
Scholarship value: Up to $1,500 awarded to each recipient.
Enterprise Holdings Foundation Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded to undergraduate and graduate students enrolled full-time. Applicants major or concentration are travel industry management (TIM), marketing, or management. Students must be U.S. citizens and have earned between 45 and 75 credit hours. Applicants must maintain a 3.25 GPA and also
demonstrate financial need. This scholarship is funded annually at the discretion of the donor.
Scholarship value: Up to $1,000 awarded to each recipient.
First Insurance Company Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded to full-time students majoring in business administration or accounting. Applicants must have completed a minimum of two semesters at HPU and have a minimum 3.50 GPA.
Scholarship value: Up to $1,000.
Hawai`i Accounting Education Foundation Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded to undergraduate or graduate students with a major or concentration in Accounting. Applicants must have completed a minimum of two semesters at HPU and also have a minimum 3.50 GPA.
Scholarship value: Up to $1,200.
J. Watumull Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded to undergraduate and graduate students with a major or concentration in
business or economics. Applicants must have completed a minimum of two semesters at HPU, be enrolled full-time, have a minimum 3.00 GPA, and demonstrate financial need. Preference is given to students of East-Indian ancestry.
Scholarship value: Up to $2,000 awarded to each recipient.
Steve Hirano Memorial Scholarship – American Resort Development Association Hawaii
ARDA Hawai`i created the Steve Hirano Memorial Scholarship Award to facilitate the education of students attending HPU, and provide an opportunity for students to pursue a career in the timeshare industry. Applicants must be enrolled full-time in the TIM program with a Junior or Senior class status, and have a minimum 3.20 GPA. Preference is given to students from Hawai`i.
Scholarship value: Up to $1,500 awarded to each recipient.
College of Humanities and Social Sciences
Doo Wook and Helen Nahm Choy Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded to one or more full-time students who have completed a minimum of two semesters at HPU, are active in the Christian ministry (e.g. pastor, Bible teacher, music, minister, missionary, etc.), have a minimum 3.50 GPA, and demonstrate financial need. In addition, a letter of recommendation is required from the Christian ministry.
Scholarship value: Up to $1,500 awarded to each recipient.
College of Natural and Computational
Sciences
Elisabeth Kehrer Anderson, M.D. Scholarship
This scholarship is given in memory of Dr. Elisabeth Anderson, who served on the Hawai`i Loa College Board of Trustees. It is awarded to undergraduate science majors enrolled full-time with preference given to marine or environmental science. Students must be U.S. or Canadian citizens and have a minimum 3.50 GPA.
Scholarship value: Up to $2,000 (Freshman/Sophomore) Up to $4,000 (Junior/Senior)

Mader Scholarship
This scholarship is given by Emma Jean and Charles L. Mader, Ph.D. Dr. Mader was a visiting professor when the university was known as Hawai’i Loa College. He valued the teaching structure of small class sizes that allowed professors to mentor many of their students. The
scholarship is awarded to undergraduate students studying in the marine science program. Applicants must be a U.S. citizen and have a minimum 3.00 GPA.
Scholarship value: Up to $1,000.
College of Nursing and Health Sciences
Marley Irons Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship is given by Richard and Anne Palma in memory of their daughter, Marley Irons, a former nursing student at HPU. The scholarship is awarded to students in the Nursing program. Preference is given to those planning to work in intensive care units or in pediatrics. Applicants must complete a minimum of 61-89 credit hours with a minimum 3.25 cumulative GPA, demonstrate financial need, have a record of community service, and an interest in service to children and youth.
Scholarship value: Up to $1,500 awarded to each recipient.

The Bossert Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded to students who have demonstrated leadership ability and skills through student activities, service organizations, or publications. Applicants must have completed a minimum of two semesters at HPU, have a strong academic record with a minimum 3.50 GPA, and demonstrate financial need.
Scholarship value: Up to $700
Kamakia Scholarship
This scholarship is given in memory of Tessa Gay Kamakia Dye, who was the wife of the late Robert P. Dye, who served as an HPU Trustee from 1979 to 1991. Applicants must be a U.S. citizen, a Hawai’i resident, over 30 years of age, enrolled in not less than 6 credit hours in any
undergraduate program, have completed at least 15 credits at HPU with a 3.00 cumulative GPA, and demonstrate
financial need. This scholarship is funded annually at the discretion of the donor.
Scholarship value: Up to $1,000
Margaret Hustace Pietsch Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship is given in memory of Margaret Hustace Pietsch, who was the wife of Hawai`i Pacific University Trustee, the late Mr. Charles Pietsch III, and is awarded to undergraduate or graduate students enrolled in any degree program. Applicants must have completed at least two semesters at HPU, be enrolled full-time, have a 3.25 cumulative GPA, and have been involved with community service outside of HPU. Applicants must be a U.S. citizen and permanent resident of Hawai`i, and demonstrate financial need.
Scholarship value: Up to $1,200 awarded to each recipient.
Nancy Ellis Award for Achievement in the Arts
Nancy Ellis was the former HPU Vice President of Student Support Services. This scholarship is awarded to students who have achieved excellence in arts (performance, visual, or literacy) and contribute in a leadership role in the “arts” area. An example is volunteering to manage an event or serve as editor of the literary journal. Applicants must be enrolled full-time with good academic standing. In addition, a letter of recommendation is required from the leader or supervisor of the “arts.”
Scholarship value: Up to $1,000.
Paul C.T. Loo and Vi Shaw Loo Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded to an incoming freshman with at least a 3.50 GPA; or a transfer student with 24 or more transferable credit hours with a minimum 3.30 GPA; or an HPU undergraduate student with a 3.30 GPA. Applicants who are students at HPU must submit a paragraph on what it means to be a part of HPU with reference to involvement in student activities and opportunities offered to the international student community. Preference will be given to students involved in extracurricular student activities and/or community service. In the event applicants are equally qualified, preference is given to the student with the greater financial need.
Scholarship value: Up to $1,500.
William E. and Dawn G. Aull Award for Leadership
William Aull was the former trustee and Chairman for the Board of Trustees at HPU. This scholarship is awarded to undergraduate students who are enrolled full-time, in a

Scholarship for Students from Pacific
Regions
Pacific Islands Institute and Diana W. Lockwood Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship is given in memory of University alumna Diana Lockwood who was the founder of the Pacific Islands Institute. It is awarded to undergraduate or
graduate students from the Pacific regions: Commonwealth of the Northern Marianas Islands, Cook Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, Fiji, French Polynesia, Guam, Kiribati, New Caledonia, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Rapa Nui, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tonga, and Vanuatu. The recipients are expected to return to their home country upon completion of their studies and apply what they have learned within their communities. Preference is given to those who demonstrate financial need.
Scholarship value: Up to $2,000 awarded to each recipient.

Scholarships and Awards Program
HPU reserves the right to cancel, reduce, or substitute an institutional scholarship. HPU scholarships that pay institutional costs, such as tuition, will be reduced in the case where a student receives other direct tuition benefits from an outside source, such as, but not limited to, VA tuition benefits or employer tuition payments made directly to the institution. Tuition scholarships from all sources cannot exceed the cost of actual tuition, and must meet the terms of the specific scholarship. Scholarships are not valid for the winter or summer terms.
