The Story of Nicholas A. Barlow

On January 8, 2013, Nick Barlow, in his final year of Pharmacy School at Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine, passed away after an extended battle with cancer. Nick was universally recognized as a wonderful young man with extraordinary potential.

We would like to share a little of Nick’s story with you. After he graduated from Cathedral Preparatory School in Erie, PA, in 2008 Nick attended Gannon University and then went on to Pharmacy School at Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine (LECOM), always in the top 1% of his class. He was also deeply involved in school, church, and community activities. The year before his death, Nick’s mother lost her life after an extended illness. His concern for her and his selfless support for his father and sister took a heavy toll on his own health. Ultimately, Nick lost his battle.

It was at this point Hubbard-Bert realized the importance of providing life insurance coverage for students and thus formed the Nicholas A. Barlow Life Insurance Trust in this young man’s honor. Students don’t typically think about things like life insurance. The insurance industry tends to overlook the needs of young adults who are still building the foundations for their futures. With the rising cost of higher education among young people, Hubbard-Bert, Inc. developed a unique life insurance product that would insure students while attending school. It is also designed in such a way that they can take it into their adult lives. The plan includes guaranteed issue term life insurance along with an assistance program so that students who need guidance have someone to talk to.

Earning a college degree opens the door to many rewarding opportunities. But many students also incur significant debt along the way.

• If the borrower dies, family members and co-signers could still be responsible for paying back loans. The benefit available through The Nicholas A. Barlow Life Insurance Trust can cover much of the average student’s debt.

• After graduating, life insurance will be essential to help protect their family’s security. Coverage is available after graduation, with no physical exam or health questions.
