Congregational Hymn Great Is Thy Faithfulness

text by Thomas Chisholm music by William M. Runyan Great is Thy faithfulness, O God my Father;

There is no shadow of turning with Thee, Thou changest not, Thy compassions they fail not,

As Thou hast been,Thou forever wilt be. Refrain:

Great is Thy faithfulness! Great is Thy faithfulness! Morning by morning new mercies I see All I have needed Thy hand hath provided

Great is Thy faithfulness, Lord unto me! Summer and winter and springtime and harvest,

Sun, moon, and stars in their courses above; Join with all nature in manifold witness, To Thy great faithfulness, mercy, and love.

Attorney Glen Lavy

Summit University Alumnus Glen Lavy serves as corporate counsel with Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF), which works to defend religious freedom, marriage, family, and the sanctity of human life. Lavy protects the ministry, ensures compliance with national and international laws, and provides legal counsel to ADF’s many teams. He previously coordinated the pro-bono work of more than 1,300 attorneys and oversaw ADF’s funding program.

After graduating from Summit University’s Pastoral Ministries program in 1986, Lavy earned his Juris Doctor degree at Harvard Law School. He is admitted to the bar of the U.S. Supreme Court, among other federal and district courts.

“The only way the great awakening our world desperately needs can happen is if the gospel is preached, and peoples’ lives are transformed. We are working to preserve that freedom,” Lavy explains. He lives with his family in Scottsdale, AZ.

The shape and size of the hood and the width of the velvet trim indicate the level of the degree. The lining of the hood indicates the college which granted the degree and usually is the official color or colors of the college. The color of the velvet trim on the hood indicates the major field of knowledge. Some of the velvet colors commonly seen at this institution are:

White Arts, History

Drab Business

Copper Economics

Light Blue Education

Brown Fine Arts

Lemon Library Science

Pink Music

Dark Blue Philosophy

Sage Green Physical Education Peacock Blue Public Admin.

Golden Yellow Science

Citron Social Work

Scarlet Theology

In the case of the Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree, the dark blue color is used to represent the mastery of the discipline of learning and scholarship in any field that is attested to by the awarding of this degree and is not intended to represent the field of philosophy. The academic mace is a traditional symbol of authority and integrity carried in formal processions. The globe at the top of the mace represents the world and Summit University’s mission to reach the world for Christ. Mounted inside is a basswood cross crafted from the wood of a pipe organ built in 1914. In the center, the cross reminds that Christ is the center of the Christian’s world and the centerpiece of education at Summit University. The mace is designed so that the cross is fully visible on each side.
