1.1 Overview

Each compact patch panel has 24, 32,48 or 96, unshielded, Cat 5e or Cat 6 (32 & 96-port only), RJ45 connectors on the front and corresponding IDC punch-down connectors on the rear. Telect’s patch panels offer simple and

efficient interconnection in 10/100/1000 Base-T, Fast, and Gigabit Ethernet applications. The panel enables speedy UTP interconnections to hubs, routers, and other active equipment. The 24-port panel is 1RU the 32 and 48-port is 2RU and the 96-port is 4RU. 24 and 48-port panels are available with or without tracer LEDs. (Tracer versions of Cat 6 panels are shown on the right.) Telect also offers a handy signal tracer module as an accessory for quickly mapping out the signal

path from panel to panel. Telect’s signal tracer module provides selectable steady or pulsing LED modes. All panels mount flush to the front or rear of any 19-in., EIA- or WECO-spaced rack. See “1.6 Parts & Accessories” on page 6 for patch cords, 110 punch-down tool, and adapter plates for 23-in. racks.

All Telect Ethernet patch panels are RoHS compliant.

1.3 Installation

1. Install patch panel on rack using four thread-forming screws, supplied.

2. Untwist no more than 0.5 in. (12.7 mm) of conductors at termination end of cable. Untwisting more may induce unwanted EMI.

3. Push down the 110 punch-down tool all of the way to the edge of the 110 connector to install twisted pairs and trim excess, as shown in the following illustration. (Use the following table to match up conductor colors with connectors.

1.4 Signal Tracer Module

The signal tracer module (Model EPPE-TRCR-MOD) allows you to light up all tracer LEDs in an Ethernet circuit — ostensibly to trace problems or confirm interconnections. It requires four AA batteries. The device consists of a test button on the front and a three-position sliding mode switch on the side. The switch settings are

• Steady on with the test button continually depressed • Blinking with the test button continually depressed • Steady on with the test button pressed only • Once for on and once for off
