Dr. Christopher Jones

After receiving BS, MS, and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering from UCLA, he went to work for Broadcom, creating broadband communication devices and developing solutions for NASA's deep space network. Later, he worked at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory where he co-authored the international CCSDS standard for deep space communications. He has authored 40 peer-reviewed publications and is an inventor on 30 patents, including a number of fundamental cable modem patents.

Alexandre Kral

With an MBA degree from the UCLA Anderson School of Management, and two Masters degrees in Electrical Engineering from UCLA and the Universite Libre de Bruxelles, Alexandre went on to work for Broadcom Corporation, and later Axiom Micro-devices. He then founded several companies in the semiconductor and software industries including SiliconFocus and Javaground, and became an inventor on several patents.

Using a microinverter integrated with advanced networking technology and Cloud monitoring to enable new levels of intelligence and connectivity in a solar array, the Chilicon Power Microinverter System consists of:

Leading the industry with sustained power production of 250 Watts AC, the Chilicon CP-250 Microinverter has a peak efficiency of 96.6%.

Backed by a 25-year warranty, these microinverters are rated for 200,000 hours of service (approximately 50 years of operation). Reliable components and strong firmware provide high-frequency grid monitoring to ensure safe operation at all times. Surge protection to 6000V AC is integrated into the enclosure and inputs are galvanically-isolated from the grid connection to provide the ultimate safety barrier.

To maximize efficiency, magnetic component optimization and online adaptive switching techniques were employed. Chilicon microinverters were designed from the ground up to provide more energy, greater efficiency, and higher reliability.

Panels stop producing power

Panels still produce power

With a string inverter, a group of 10 solar panels are connected together and attached to a single inverter. If one of the 10 panels fails or goes into shadow, the output of each of the other 9 panels is reduced to the level of the failed or shadowed panel, greatly reducing total power output from the inverter.

With microinverter technology, each solar panel has its own microinverter. If one of the panels fails or goes into shadow, the rest of the panels are unaffected.

Unlike string inverters that require complicated installation and wiring, Microinverters are simple and fast to install. Using a Chilicon microinverter, installers can adjust the angle or location of each solar panel to achieve maximum power generation. Plus,

GATEWAY

Using sophisticated multi-rate, error-resistant, and encrypted powerline communications, the GATEWAY connects with each microinverter in your array without the need for additional wiring. The zWave (908MHz) wireless interface makes it simple to setup your solar array's configuration using the 7" 800 x 480 LCD touchscreen.

By enabling Cloud monitoring, the GATEWAY allows you to monitor power consumption for up to 255 microinverters using your computer, smartphone or tablet. For larger commercial installations, multiple GATEWAY devices can be used in combination with Line Communications Filters (LCF) to separate networking domains across a site.

Able to communicate with other Z-wave enabled devices, the GATEWAY can also be used for home automation and monitoring. Possible devices include power sensors and smart energy switches to control and monitor appliances, switches and dimmers for lighting, door locks and motion detectors for security, thermostats for temperature control, and more.

Privacy & Security

Able to run in stand-alone mode or while connected to the Cloud, the GATEWAY ensures complete privacy of your data at all times. All data transfers from the microinverters to the GATEWAY, and from the GATEWAY to the Cloud, are securely encrypted. Additionally, by exporting to the Cloud, data can be safely backed up on a regular basis.

Cloud Monitoring

Provisioned with Wi-Fi and 100BaseT Ethernet, the GATEWAY enables remote connection to a Cloud monitoring system, allowing you to remotely access your solar information at any time. These Cloud services provide historical production and real-time status information for every registered microinverter, making it easy to monitor or manage your system on the fly.

Remote support at startup provides the installers with assistance when installing, configuring and starting up the system. Installation therefore requires no special expertise, as this knowledge and assistance is provided by Chilicon Power personnel, letting installers hit the ground running without the need for expensive or time-intensive training. If desired, Chilicon Power personnel can even provide complete remote configuration and startup services. This limits installation requirements to actual installation and wiring of the solar panels and the GATEWAY.
