Frameworks for Success
The aim of this module is to explore key accounting and finance practice and the associated decision making tools within organisations. It will cover the nature of accounting and finance tools within a variety of business environments and consider appropriate management techniques to help identify strategic options. Drawing on the disciplines of financial and management accounting, this module will enable students to gain an appreciation of the type of financial information that is routinely produced by organisations for internal and external use. The module will use a wide range of business scenarios and apply relevant accounting techniques to critically evaluate and interpret financial information.
Sustainable Strategy - from
Planning to Implementation
The module challenges concepts of strategy, its scope, purpose and outcomes and provides a practical outline of a number of different approaches to strategic management. The module also highlights the international scope of strategic management, the globalisation of technologies and markets and looks at the role of strategic alliances and international collaborations in establishing and nurturing competence for the achievement of strategic advantage.
Core Modules
Marketing in a Global Age
This module studies marketing: the application of marketing techniques and concepts to a number of different environments. It analyses the nature of marketing, the core concepts, techniques and processes. Students will have the opportunity to learn the complexity of managing marketing and applying theory in practice, to assess the effectiveness of marketing, discuss some of the difficulties in implementing marketing as well as the general ethical issues that arise from its use. Students will also appreciate how different aspects of marketing relate to and interact with each other.
Therefore, this module aims to facilitate students’ understanding of applied marketing. Whilst building on and utilising basic knowledge of marketing literature, it seeks more to develop student critical analysis and understanding of marketing in practice. It seeks less to impart theory or knowledge but more to provide an environment in which advanced masters students can exchange their ideas, experiences and thoughts in order to build up critical understanding and appreciation of the value and limits of marketing in practice.
Leading in a Changing World
In a volatile and unpredictable economy and even in good times, leaders must demonstrate extraordinary performance to their employees, customers, shareholders and other stakeholders. The ability to lead sustainable strategic change is a key characteristic of effective senior managers and executives. Globalisation has increased the complexity of the role of a leader, in particular in delivering the challenge to integrate different national and organisational cultures to deliver international business strategies. This module examines the knowledge, skills, behaviours and techniques of leadership and explores the role of leadership in relation to other business themes such as globalisation, strategy, innovation and organisational development. Leadership is one of the most pervasive social phenomena. As such it is also a controversial one. This module will provide students with an opportunity to consider and develop some key leadership skills to support them in building their international business careers. Students will be
expected to prepare themselves to address contemporary leadership issues such as globalisation, virtual teams and corporate social responsibility. This will be achieved by the acquisition of a critical understanding of the impact of such issues in practice.
Business and Management
Research Methods or
Entrepreneurship
Students as future managers and leaders will need to document their company, industry or consultancy research based on accepted procedures within the business and management academic community. This module introduces students to the major theoretical perspectives and research strategies and associated methodologies in business and management research. Consequently, the module aims to provide students with an understanding of the major philosophical issues within business and management research and enable students to identify the nature and characteristics of qualitative and quantitative research. Students can also learn to identify which theoretical perspective is appropriate to research the dissertation problem under consideration and to develop the theoretical foundation appropriate for the research problem. Students will understand the differences between primary and secondary data collection and how to collect/collate data and analyse and interpret it depending on the nature and characteristics of the research.
Students planning on starting their own enterprise or to continue in their own business after graduation can benefit from other forms of business research. These are addressed in the alternative module to Research Methods that leads to the entrepreneurship project in the final term. In this module, students will explore various entrepreneurship and start-up models and research as a platform for the market research of a potential business opportunity. Students will then create a feasibility study and learn how to find relevant current data with judgement and confidence towards justifying a perceived opportunity and its implementation.
International Accounting
Perspectives
With the increasing globalisation of accounting regulation, knowledge of the requirements of the International Accounting Standards is now essential to anyone studying international business. This module aims to enable students to deepen and broaden their technical
competence, critical knowledge, and conceptual understanding of global financial reporting, and to help apply this knowledge in increasingly complex situations. The module examines the origins of differences in financial reporting; the forces operating on the accounting profession to eliminate them; and the impact of international financial reporting standards (IFRSs).
The key aims of the course are to provide students with the chance to develop knowledge and a critical understanding of the requirements of the International GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) allowing them to prepare non-group and basic group financial statements; the knowledge and techniques to analyse critically and interpret financial statements and recognise their limitations; to introduce measurement models and the conceptual framework adopted by the IASB (International Accounting Standards Board); to familiarise students with the institutional and social contexts of formulating international accounting standards and provide them with the knowledge to evaluate the cultural, political and market forces that influence this process; to provide students the opportunity to understand and critically evaluate the implications of globalisation of accounting regulation and provide students with the chance to develop transferable IT skills in the preparation of company accounts.
Banking Regulation and Risk
The role of risk management is becoming more important as both banks and supervisors around the world increasingly recognise that sound risk management practices are vital, not only for the success of individual banks, but also for the banking system as a whole. An important component of this journey towards becoming more risk aware, is education and training.
Global Financial Markets
A critical understanding of financial markets enables leaders and managers to appreciate the fundamental relationship between the financial management function and business strategy. Applying financial management knowledge and skills improves an organisation’s effectiveness and efficiency. In today’s highly competitive business environment, both private and government organisations are increasingly putting more emphasis in this area to achieve their objectives.
The module emphasises business awareness, proactive and logical thinking, research and critical analysis to help managers make sound strategic financial decisions on a global scale. A distinctive module feature is its focus on present-day national and global developments in the world markets. By its use of a powerful simulation tool this module brings to life the world of the city trader and provides students the opportunity to gain a critical understanding of the complexities that surround the financial markets. This real world focus can provide immediate value to students’ present or potential employers. Helping an organisation compete more successfully through better strategy and financial management can be a rewarding career, in the UK or internationally.
Financial Enterprise and Social
Responsibility
Contemporary organisations can no longer afford to view business ethics only in terms of administrative compliance with legal standards and adherence to internal rules and regulations. This module examines the relationship between financial and accounting practice and these social responsibilities. Like never before, corporations are being asked, encouraged and prodded to improve their business practices to emphasise legal and ethical behaviour. Companies, professional firms and individuals alike are being held increasingly accountable for their actions, as demand grows for higher standards of corporate social responsibility. Although some fundamental financial management techniques will be covered in the module, the major aim of the module is to examine and discuss some controversial issues in corporate finance. As a result, students are encouraged to adopt a questioning approach to the theories and to develop a habit of critical evaluation of reported empirical test results.

Making the decision about where to live
during your time in London is one of the
most important you’ll make. Coventry

a range of accommodation options to suit
your requirements and budget. You can
choose from student halls of residences or

Student Halls of Residence
Depending of the provider, halls of residence usually offer self-contained studio rooms with private bathroom, toilet and fitted kitchen or en-suite rooms with bathroom, toilet and shared kitchen facilities.
To help you budget your living
expenses, all costs such as internet and utility bills (water, electricity, gas, council tax) are usually included in the price. Some of the best halls for residence offer additional facilities such as common social areas, gym, launderette, cinema room, games room and on-site grocery stores.
Moreover, many of the halls of residence we recommend are within walking distance or a very short commute of the London Campus keeping any travel cost low.
Prices start
