INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS ASSISTANT INTERN (Fixed-term for 12 months)

JOB DESCRIPTION Grade: Administrative Grade 3

Background

The post-holder will be a member of the International Relations Office in the School of Business and Economics. The role of this office is to support an ambitious

internationalisation agenda within the School of Business and Economics. For more on international activities at the School see:

This post is an excellent opportunity to gain experience across many aspects of Higher Education internationalisation including summer schools, student exchanges, partnership management, pr and events management. The postholder will develop many skills including: administration; organisation; communication and pr,

relationship and event management and market research.

Internationalisation of HE is a major area of growth for universities which offers an increasing number of attractive career paths. Experience of working in an

international context will be attractive to future employees.

The successful applicant will show a genuine interest in the agenda of the office and in working with people from a range of other countries. S/he will also show a

willingness to use their initiative and welcome new challenges. A good team member, s/he will also be comfortable working on his/her own as necessary.

Duties

The postholder will provide front of house administrative support for a range of international activities and events coordinated by the International Relations Office, to include:

 To be a key point of liaison, including for students, staff and partner universities

 To provide excellent customer service, liaising with and responding to any queries from students, staff and partners in a professional manner

 To provide administrative support for a variety of tasks in the International Relations Office including:

o Providing day to day office support and dealing with enquiries o visiting student administration

o publicising exchange opportunities o organising information events

o developing promotional materials and maintaining webpages o creating and maintaining database records

 A key aspect of the role will be to provide support for 2 International Summer Schools to be held in June and July 2016, including:

o Scheduling and making logistical arrangements o Liaising with teaching staff and students

o Coordinating a group of temporary student ‘buddies’ during the Summer School

o Liaising with international partner institutions and other external agencies

o Developing publicity materials and maintaining related webpages  To carry out research and mapping exercises, e.g, on new markets and

potential partner institutions

 To gather and disseminate information about external funding and other opportunities

 To contribute to the development of new processes and systems in the International Relations Office

 To help to organise and be involved in other SBE events as necessary  To undertake appropriate training, consistent with the needs and aspirations

Undergraduate

Degree from Loughborough University (Expected July 2015) OR Current Undergraduate Student at Loughborough

University looking to undertake a Placement Year

Experience Experience of editing websites or social network sites such as Facebook/ Twitter (1,3)

Experience of and proven interest in dealing with people from

different backgrounds (1,3)

Experience of a customer service or a customer facing role (1,3)

Skills and Abilities Very good communication skills – able to communicate appropriately and professionally with students, university staff and company personnel (1,3)

Good administration skills (2,3) Ability to work as part of a team (1,3)

Ability to take initiative, and organize and prioritise own workload (1,2,3)

Ability to work accurately and with attention to detail, whilst working to tight deadlines and with conflicting priorities (1,2,3)

This is a full-time fixed-term appointment for 12 months. The starting salary will be within Administrative Services Grade 3 (£16,131per annum).
