Double-Hung Windows (Manufactured After October 8, 2006) and Woodwright Double-Hung Insert Windows

Supplies Needed

Read and follow these warnings during installation.

Glass

Tempered safety glass is not standard and must be special ordered. Check local building codes for required safety glass locations.

• Do not allow sealants to contact glass surface. Glass surface or exterior coating damage will result.

• If protective film is present, leave in place until unit is installed and job site construction is completed to protect glass surface.

• If suction cups are used while moving or installing unit, make sure that cups are not applied on the seam of the protective film.

• If suction cup is applied on the seam, the suction cup will lose adhesion, causing unit to slip or drop and potentially causing damage or injury.

• Do not remove protective film in an area where there are solvents or flammable materials. Do not dispose of protective film in a container that may also contain flammable materials.

• Removing the protective film may result in a static charge that could cause a shock or spark.

Static discharge caused when protective film is removed may ignite flammable materials.

If loop style balance is replaced, it is

recommended that both balances be changed to the clip style.

Raise bottom sash 4" from sill. Slide

wash assists down. Tilt bottom sash down and slide wash assists back up.

Lift one side of sash to free pivot pin.

or

Remove and replace balance. To reinstall sash, go to step 7. For top sash removal, go to step 8.

Balance Bottom Sash

Lower top sash 8" from sill. Slide tilt latches as shown.

Remove sash. If replacing top sash or top sash balance, set bottom sash aside and go to step 8.

Continue lifting until balance cords can be removed as shown.

Reverse steps 1-5 to reinstall bottom sash. Push sash down approximately 1"

to engage sash balances.

For sash replacement, transfer balances from existing sash to the replacement sash.

For balance replacement, remove existing balance and replace with replacement balance.

For reinstallation, place bottom sash pivot pins in inner channel.

Tilt top sash down. Continue lifting until balance cords can

be removed as shown.

Remove and replace balance. Properly discard all unused balance(s).

Balance

Reverse steps 8-12 to reinstall top sash.

Reverse steps 1-5 to reinstall bottom sash.

Installation is finished.

Lift one side of sash to free pivot pin.

Remove sash from frame.

For reinstallation, place top sash pivot pins in outer channel.

If sash balance is not re-engaged in the track by first pushing down on the sash, it will quickly drop potentially causing injury.

For sash replacement, transfer balances from existing sash to the replacement sash.

For balance replacement, remove existing balance and replace with replacement balance.

Tape glass edge with painters tape prior to finishing or painting wood surfaces. Protective film is not a substitute for edge masking.

Finishing

• Do not expose unfinished wood to high moisture conditions, excessive heat or humidity. Finish interior wood surfaces immediately after installation. Unfinished wood surfaces will discolor, deteriorate, and/or may bow and split.

• Do not stain or paint weatherstrip, silicone beads, vinyl, glass or hardware. Damage to product may occur and unit operation may be impaired.

including hidden surface at check rail immediately after installation.

Read and follow finishing manufacturer’s instructions and warnings on each container of finish material for priming, painting, staining, and varnishing.

Protective film may pose suffocation hazard to children. Properly dispose of film immediately after removal and keep out of reach of children.

Do not apply any type of film or insulating materials such as window coverings, shutters, or other shading devices to glass. Glass may be damaged and condensation may result causing deterioration of windows and doors.

Start film removal from seam or

corner of film using plastic scraper if needed. Peel off film. Remove protective film within one year of installation.

Clean glass surface using liquid glass cleaner, squeegee or clean cloth only.

Glass surface damage may result if abrasive cleaners are used.

}

Do not use abrasive cleaners or solutions containing corrosive solvents.

}

Clean exterior frame, sash members, and insect screens using a mild detergent-and-water solution and soft cloth or brush.

}

Clean persistent dirt or grime, using a nonabrasive cleaner, water-and- alcohol solution, or water-and- ammonia solution.

}

Sand and refinish stained or mildewed wood immediately to prevent further discoloration or damage.

Acid solutions used for wash masonry/concrete will damage glass, fasteners, hardware, and metal flashing. If these solutions are used, follow the acid solution manufacturer’s instructions carefully.

Protect and/or cover Andersen products during the cleaning process to prevent acid contact. If acid does come in contact with unit, immediately wash all surfaces with clean water.

Do not use metal razor blades to clean glass or to remove print/finish or protective film from glass surface.

Glass surface or exterior coating damage may result.
