A Halifax Clarity Loan could be the answer to making some home improvements, replacing your car or tidying up your finances. But, as you know, it’s important to think things through carefully before borrowing any money.

We want to make sure that a Clarity Loan is right for you. So if you need help deciding, our advisers are here to provide you with all the information you’ll need to make an informed choice.

Your adviser can also review your general financial situation – to check all your accounts and help you plan for the future. It won’t cost you a penny and there’s absolutely no obligation.

Because you already bank with Halifax, taking out a loan is straight forward. And if you have a Halifax current account the money could be in your account immediately after your loan has been approved (payments to other accounts could take up to 5 days).

Is a Clarity Loan right for me?

How can a Halifax Clarity Loan help you?

Things to think about...

Before applying for a loan, it’s important to make sure that you can comfortably afford the monthly repayments. It’s also a good idea to make sure that the number of years over which you’ve chosen to pay off the loan, is right for you.

And, existing Halifax customers can get a personalised quote that won’t leave a footprint on your credit file. We will, of course, inform the credit agencies if you do go on to take out a loan.

Keeping on top of your monthly direct debit repayment is really important. If it helps, you can change your repayment date up to twice a year – for example, if you change jobs.

And of course, should you have any problems repaying the loan it’s a great idea to speak to us sooner rather than later.

We can help you come up with a solution.

And don’t forget...

Our advisers can give you all the

information you need to help you decide whether a loan is right for you and what you can comfortably afford.

You can book an appointment at your local branch or by calling 08457 39 49 59.

Lines are open Monday to Friday 7.30am–10.30pm and Saturday 9am–4.30pm.

Important information

The table below provides key information for our Halifax Clarity Loan from £1,000 to

£25,000. It only summarises the main features of the product and isn’t intended to replace any terms and conditions that come with your loan.

Amount of loan available Loans are available between £1,000 and £25,000.

Repayment period You can choose to repay your loan over 1 to 7 years.

Arrangement fees There’s no arrangement fee.

Early settlement You can make additional payments at any time or pay off your loan early without any extra charges.

Repayment breaks Once you’ve made the first monthly repayment on your loan you can ask us for a repayment break. You can ask for two one-month breaks from your loan in any 12 month period, as long as you are up to date with your repayments, have a direct debit in place and at least 30 days left on your loan term. Repayment breaks can’t be taken consecutively, and interest will be charged if you take a break from your repayments or defer your repayments, so you will pay more interest overall.

Interest charging information The rate that we charge depends on our assessment of your circumstances.

Repayment information Repayment is by direct debit. Repayments are monthly until the loan is repaid.

You also have the option of changing the repayment date, choosing to pay back more than the agreed monthly amount or to pay your loan off early.

Default fees We will charge you:

• A £25 fee each time your account is transferred to our Collections department

• For our other losses or reasonable costs as a result of you breaking the loan agreement, including costs of finding, notifying or contacting you and enforcing the loan agreement.

Our lending criteria

To apply you must have held a Halifax current account for 3 months or more, or alternatively have; an existing Halifax credit card, mortgage or loan.

Missed repayments

If you’re late with a monthly repayment or you stop your repayments, we may take any money you owe us from any current or savings account you have with us, including joint accounts as long as the conditions allow us to do this and there’s enough money in it.

7

We may also charge you for retrieving late or missed repayments. If your circumstances change when you have a loan, please talk to us as soon as you can.

We’ll try to help find a solution.

And, as with most forms of credit, missing payments could affect your rating with credit reference agencies.

Right of withdrawal

You have the right to cancel any loan that you take out with us by giving us notice to do so within 14 days of taking the money.

You’ll need to pay it all back, including interest, within a further 30 days.

Do you need extra help?

We want to help our customers in any way we can. If you have a hearing or speech impairment you can use Text Relay (previously Typetalk) or Textphone on

08457 32 34 36 (lines are open seven days a week 9am–5.30pm).

We can provide brochures and other documents in large print, Braille, CD and audio tape.

Please ask a member of staff if you’d like individual pieces of literature in any other formats or would like to know more.

How to complain

If there’s a problem we’ll do our best to resolve it immediately. Where we can’t, we’ll make sure you have the name and contact details of the person or team who can deal with your complaint.

Tell us if there is a problem Our promise

If you have a complaint or just want to tell us about something we could do better, there are a number of ways you can let us know:

Visit a branch: pop into any of our branches and speak to a member of the branch team.

By telephone: call our telephone banking service on 08457 32 34 36.

By Textphone: if you have a hearing impairment, call us on 0845 300 2283.

By post: write to us at Halifax, PO Box 548, Leeds LS1 1WL.

If you’re still not happy

We’ll do our best to sort things out but if we can’t put things right to your satisfaction, you can ask the Financial Ombudsman Service to look at your complaint – provided you’ve tried to resolve the matter directly with us first.

We hope you don’t need to contact the Financial Ombudsman Service but if you do, we’ll tell you how to do this.

Free independent money guidance For free, clear, unbiased money guidance, information and tools to help you manage your money better, the Money Advice Service is available at www.moneyadviceservice.org.uk or by calling 0300 500 5000.
