A Letter from the President Fellow Shadow Riders,

Well, we’ve been successful for another year at making our club the best in the St. Louis area. I would like to thank every body who helped out this previous year and I look forward to working with you again to make 2017 another great year for the club.

We will be working with some new members on the Board this year and I’m really looking forward to seeing what they have to bring to the club. I would like to thank them in advance for all their hard work and their willingness to serve as a Board member, helping us be the best at what we do for the club.

I can’t wait for the warmer weather to get here and I don’t see the winter getting too much worse than it has been. It’s been cold but we’ve had a lot worse. December is out of the way;

January is 1/4 of the way over; and it starts to get a little warmer in March here in St. Louis. I’m hoping we can have some Sunday morning rides before the riding season starts in April.

Even though you may not have run for the Board this year there are other ways to help out with club activities. Volunteering to organize a ride is one important way. If you really enjoyed one or more particular rides in the past year or years then why not take that as your ride for the upcoming ride calendar. I know Ross will be working hard to get the schedule filled up as early as possible so why not help him out with a day that you can take us on a club ride. I have mine picked out and I know Andrea will want to do here ride again. If the schedule doesn’t fill out too soon I’ll probably pick a second Sunday to help out on. I would encourage our newer mem- bers to try it out and see if this is something you would enjoy doing for the club as your way of giving back to the club that does as much as the Shadow Riders does for it’s members.

I am happy to report that I will be taking Larry McGowen’s bike out of the ads this month.

Not because it’s sold but because Larry’s surgeries went better than he had hoped and he will be riding with us again this year. Congratulations to Larry and his family and we look forward to riding with you for another 20 years or so.

Don’t forget to get your reservations in for the Holiday Party this Saturday. It’s going to be great time and I hope to see you all there.

John Geiler, President

Board Meeting started at 6:30 P.M.

Club Meeting started at 7:00 P.M.

Jim Gianella reported 125 members as of now. No new mem- bers at this time. Jim wanted to let everyone know, "Do not send money to him for the Holiday Party". The money regarding the party should be sent to Laura or Tony.

A few membership renewals have come in. You have to be a member in order to vote in the upcoming election.

Laura Boone-Bergsieker reminding everyone that the Holiday Party is at the Elks Lodge on January 14th. You can sign up with Laura tonight in order to attend.

Sue Braun mentioned the Food Caterer for the party will be Can- dicci's with a menu that includes Pasta Con Broccoli, Chicken, and other dishes to enjoy, which also include Serendipity Ice Cream.

Sue and Robin Potter stopped in at Candicci's to sample the menu. Food was outstanding, and Candicci's did not even charge them for sampling the food.

Rich Bayer says music for the party will be provided by Shaggy Sounds.

Diane and Lou have all nomination spots filled. All nominations will be posted in the next newsletter. The budget for 2017 will also be discussed at that time.

Sue Braun mentioned Big St. Charles will be having a Ladies Garage Party on February 9th. Also, TBL Motorcycle swap meet will be held on January 8th at the Fairmount race track in Collinsville, Ill.

Ira Steur would like suggestions for Saturday nights out. Possi- bilities are the Route 66 Museum, or The History Museum at Forest Park. He'll provide dates for John to put in the newsletter. Hodak’s was also mentioned as a possible night out which also offers terrific food.

Tony Weaver stated that we have funds for the Holiday Party covered. Also, that the club has funds of over $10,000.00 in the bank at this time.

Lou Soucy mentioned anyone is interested in doing a ride during the off season should put out an email and meet at Old Orchard.

Ted has updates on the website, but they're not quite ready at this time.

Sue Braun had nothing new to report on Hartbrauer McBride.

Bob Mueller on the West Coast Trip-He located a Bike Shipping Co. that would transport the bikes for $712.00 for a 2-way ship. Bob also has a Route Sheet that will be made available soon. Also he noted that "Hotel 6" has rooms for under $100.00. This will be a 10 day trip that leaves from Las Vegas Harley Davidson. Lou Soucy and Dennis Meade will be leading groups as well. Andrea Geiler is work- ing on the details of a Virginia trip in June. No updates at this time.

Tony mentioned a trip to the Barber M.C. Museum in Alabama the 1st weekend in October, which includes going through Memphis, and then back through Nashville. It would be a ten day trip leaving on a Tues- day and back on Wednesday. There will be future discussion on the Bikes, Blues, BBQ trip this year, on whether to ride down outside of the actual event in order to get some good rides in with it being so crowded at the designated event time. Randy mentioned a possible ride to The Hub. Ira mentioned planning a ride down to Branson be- fore the 4th of July Holiday. Tery suggested a Missouri-Missouri Route 66 ride.

Marklyn mentioned that "Butler Maps" has a very detailed map of Route 66. She stated that not only are they terrific to have on hand, they're also waterproof.

"Hollywood" won $50.00 in the 50/50 draw. The last 2 Bandanas were also given as prizes.

Hey Everybody,

It may be that time of the year to winterize your bike if you are not a fan of riding in cold temps. I’m certainly no expert, but I’ll tell you a few things I like to do. Change the oil and filter if it’s over halfway to its next scheduled change. Use lighter weight oil if you plan on riding in colder weather; follow the owner’s manual guidelines. Put half a can of Sea Foam in a full tank of fuel, let it mix and run the engine a while to get it thoroughly through the entire system. That will help stabilize the fuel and clean out any kind of fuel system you have. Hopefully you can park it indoors. If you have it in an un- heated garage, a piece of old carpet under it and a breathable cover over it helps cut down on condensation. If you start it for a ride or to charge the battery every couple of weeks that would be great, but run / ride it ‘til it’s completely warmed up for a while before shutting it off. If you don’t think you will run it every couple of weeks, it’s a good idea to get a battery ten- der. Check your tire pressure before you ride!

It is also that time of the year that the SRC board is getting ready to turn over a new page. I have had a blast serving on the board the last several years and would like to thank all the other board members and the count- less other dedicated members that continue to make this the best motorcy- cle club anywhere.

Ride Safe, Lou Soucy

2017 Board Members Election

As you all know we have our elections in January for the Board members for the up- coming year. This year, 2017, we only have one person nominated for each Board po- sition. Rather than print out ballots for this year’s election I thought we could announce the people running for office and get a vote to accept the nominations as presented.

Running for office this year is:

John Geiler - President

Erin O’Donnell - Vice-President Tony Weaver - Treasurer

Ross McGovern - Safety Officer Karen Johnston - Secretary

I would also like to recognize Jim Gianella: Membership; Ted Koski: Website; Lisa Soucy: Merchandise; Ira Steuer: Saturday Night Out; Laura Bergsieker: Make-A-Wish;

Robin Potter: Harbauer/McBride; Rich Bayers: Bikers for Babies. These positions are as important as the other positions in our club and should be viewed as such. Equal ef- fort and dedication goes into keeping these parts of our club operating as smoothly as they have for 21 years now. Please thank these people whenever you see them for performing these tasks professionally and efficiently

Bob Mueller spoke at the August meeting to give us a little more information on the trip he’s planning for 2017 to ride the Coastal Highway in California with other points of interest including Yosemite and Lake Tahoe. We will be flying into Las Vegas to rent our bikes and several others plan to ride their own bikes out and back. From what Bob said at our last meeting there may be an option to ship your bike there and back. Bob will be get- ting us more details as the deadlines for reservations get closer.

Andrea is planning a trip to Virginia in the middle of June of 2017. She is planning the trip to be 8 days with the group coming back on a Saturday for people to get back and take care of some business before going back to work. She is working on getting some great hotel rates with a pool; breakfast; and a lounge. Details to come.

Those of you who didn’t make the Bikes, Blues, and Bar-B-Que trip this year might want to consider doing it in 2017. The roads are great; you can test ride new motorcycles at the event from manufacturers such as: Harley; Indian; Victory; Yamaha; and this year Suzuki brought their bikes and test rides were being offered on the Slingshot 3-wheelers.

Just watching the parade and the constant line of bikes of all sorts was loads of fun. Give it some thought. As I’ve offered in the past: if you haven't taken a club trip this is a great starter and any of us “regulars” can school you on how to pack your bike for 4 days of fun.

Talk to any of the organizers for details.
