Dearest Parishioners,

Peace in Jesus, the Risen Lord. This past week our nation celebrated National Nurses’ Week.

Especially considering that we are still amid the COVID-19 pandemic, I send a heartfelt thank you to all nurses, especially those working with victims of the virus in hospitals, nursing homes, assisted living facilities, and correctional facilities. Their work in collaboration with doctors, Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs), First Responders, and others in the public healthcare field, has been most challenging and heroic these past 14 months. Nursing has numerous branches and serves the public in many ways, from pre-natal care until the moment of death.

Let us remember them in a special way at Mass and in prayer this weekend. I read on the internet an apt quote about nursing: “Nursing is one of those career fields that challenges, rewards and exhausts you in equal measure.” We thank our nurses for their service to the public, especially during the pandemic. I believe that nursing is more than a career;

in the light of faith, it is a call to serve in imitation of Jesus, the Divine Healer.

I also wish to acknowledge our parishioners who are graduating from colleges, universities, and technical schools this month. I imagine that the past year has been most challenging and that unique challenges still face you as you embark upon the next stage of life. I hope that our Catholic Christian faith and your participation in the life of our parish will guide and strengthen you as move on. I pray that your education, your faith and your relationship to the Risen Lord, will give you deep joy and purpose in life.

As you have received much and have been blessed much, may you give back to society in the spirit of service. I wish you success not only in the sense of achieving personal accomplishments and goals, but also in making our world a better place through your dreams, talents, commitment, hard work, and Christian faith. I ask, too, that you give back to our parish and the Church by sharing your talents and blessings with us and by becoming protagonists in our faith community. Your active presence makes our parish richer; your absence makes our parish poorer.

Fr. Matthew

Sharing of time, talent or treasure for the common good & the glory of God

“Whoever confesses that Jesus is the Son of God, God abides in him, and he in God.” - 1 JOHN

4:15

Do How strong is your faith? When you have an opportunity to either defend or clarify a question about our Catholic faith, do you do it? Or, do you remain silent so that others don’t think you are weird? Pray for the courage to be Stewardship strong in all circumstances and to joyfully share your witness with others.

POPE FRANCIS PANTRY FOOD GIVEAWAY ON MAY 15

The Pope Francis Food Pantry located at 64 North Street in Bridgeton which is behind the Immaculate Conception Church will be giving away food this Saturday morning, May 15th from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Please enter the parking lot from the North Street gate and turn left in front of the pantry. Bags will be on the sidewalk. Please take one bag per person, get back in your car and proceed out the back gate which exits onto Laurel Street. One-way traffic will exist in the parking lot.

We ask that everyone remain in their cars till you get to bag pick up. Do not park your car or get out of your car before you get to bag pick up. We thank you in advance for your cooperation during these difficult times.

Jesus was worried about his disciples and he turned to prayer. No matter how much time we spent trying to

“guard and protect” our children, each day they become less dependent on us and we must let go and let God. Prayer and parenting go together.

LA ESQUINA DEL PASTOR

Estimados Feligreses,
