Item: Partial Closure of North Minnesota Street for Crazy Days

Proposed Action:

Offer the resolution and waive the reading to approve the partial closure of North Minnesota Street from 3rd North to Center Street for Crazy Days events beginning at 7:00 a.m. on Friday, July 24, 2020 to midnight on Saturday, July 25, 2020.

Overview:

• The New Ulm Chamber of Commerce supported by the Downtown Action Team and New Ulm Business and Retail Association has submitted a request to partially close North Minnesota Street for the Crazy Days events.

• A Public Right-of-Away Use Application has been submitted.

• The closure will be for overnight use.

• A COVID-19 Preparedness Plan for the Crazy Days event was submitted and will be followed.

Purpose

A practical COVID response will be critical to keep businesses open. Increasing foot traffic and adding potential sales will minimize recovery time.

Among those surveyed, business owners and

residents want to heighten the level of activity in the downtown area. Increase foot traffic to offset lost sales.

Engage the community while promoting business

activity.

Councilor __________ offered the following resolution and moved its adoption:

BE IT RESOLVED, the City Code of the City of New Ulm empowers the City Council to establish certain traffic and parking regulations in the City of New Ulm.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the City Council of the City of New Ulm, Brown County, Minnesota does hereby approve the partial street closure of North Minnesota Street from 3rd North to Center Street for Crazy Days events beginning at 7:00 a.m. on Friday, July 24, 2020 to midnight on Saturday, July 25, 2020 for the New Ulm Chamber of Commerce supported by the Downtown Action Team and New Ulm Business and Retail Association.

The motion for the adoption of the foregoing resolution was duly seconded by Councilor __________ and, the roll being called, the following vote was recorded:

Voting Aye: Councilors.

Voting Nay: None.

Not Voting: None.

Whereupon said resolution was declared to have been duly adopted this 7th day of July 2020.
