Setting up SJUMobile

(Wireless Internet Access for personal devices)

St. John’s University provides wireless internet access to personal devices for all current registered students. To setup a connection, please follow the instructions below for your particular device. In order to login

successfully, the following information will be required:

o Username: SJU Network account username – First letter of the first name, first four letters of the last name, and the last three numbers of the X Number (or the last three numbers of the social security number)

 Note: This is the same username you use to log into the computers on campus and your St.

John’s University laptop. If you are unsure of your username, please see Laptop Support Center or the Computer Labs.

o Password: Capital “S”, Lowercase “j” followed by the StormCard ID Number. This is the same password that is used to log into the computers on campus.

Example: Username: jsmit123 Password: Sj91234567

Instructions below are available for the following devices:

 Android Phone or Tablet

 Apple ® iOS6, iOS7 & iOS8

 Apple OSX 10.6 and newer

 Windows 8 & 8.1

 Windows 7

 Windows XP

 Windows Phone 7.5/8

the Laptop Support Center or the MicroLabs.

Android

To connect to SJUMobile on your Android device please follow the instructions below.

1. Go to settings

2. Under the “Connections” tab, click Wi-Fi.

Make sure the setting is set to ON.

3. Search for wireless networks available, and click on SJUMobile

Page 3 of 17 4. A prompt will appear to enter in University credentials. Under “Identity,” enter in the assigned SJU

username, and the Password in the corresponding area. Then, click CONNECT.

5. When connection is authenticated, it will connect.

iOS

for iPad, iPhone, & iTouch 1. Select Settings

2. Select Wifi

3. Make sure Wifi is turned on. If it is off you must turn on your wifi

4. Select SJUMobile

5. Enter the assigned SJU Username and Password, and click Connect.

Apple OSX

OS 10.6 – 10.10

1. Click the Wifi icon in the top bar on the right side

2. Select “SJUMobile” from the available networks.

3. A prompt will appear asking you to enter in Enterprise Credentials. Enter the assigned SJU network Username and Password. Click JOIN.

Page 6 of 17 4. A prompt will appear asking to accept the authentication certificate. Click CONTINUE.

5. Depending on the security settings, a prompt will also appear for the computer username and password to confirm the Certificate Trust Settings. Click UPDATE SETTINGS, after the log in information is entered.

6. Once it is accepted, network connection should be working. Please verify by click on the Wi-Fi icon at the top of your screen. You should see a check mark next to SJUMobile.

Windows 8 / 8.1

1. From your desktop, right click the wireless signal in the bottom right of the taskbar.

2. Select “Open Network and Sharing Center.”

3. Click “Setup a New Wireless Connection or Network.”

4. Click Manually Connect to Wireless Network.

a. Network Name (Case Sensitive): SJUMobile.

b. Security Type: WPA Enterprise.

c. Encryption Type: TKIP

6. Click Next

7. Click Change Security Settings

Page 9 of 17 8. Under the “Security” tab make sure under “Choose network authentication method:” “Microsoft:

Protected EAP (PEAP)” is selected. Click Settings.

9. Scroll down in the Certificate Authorities, and Check of “VeriSign Class 3 Public Primary Certification Authority –G5.” Authentication Method should be set as “Secured password (EAP-MSCHAPv2)”.

Click Configure next to that.

Page 10 of 17 10. Verify that there is no check mark next to the option to “Automatically use my Windows logon name

and password( and domain if any)”. Click OK.

11. Click the wireless signal in the taskbar and the available wireless networks will slide in from the right of the screen. Click to Connect to SJUMobile.

12. A prompt for a username and password will appear to initiate connection.

Windows 7

1. Click on your wireless signal in your taskbar

2. Select Open Network Sharing Center 3. Select Manage wireless networks 4. Select Add

5. Select Manually Create network Profile:

6. Enter the following information:

a. Network Name (Case Sensitive): SJUMobile.

b. Security Type: WPA Enterprise.

c. Encryption Type: TKIP

d. Click Next.

8. Under the “Security” tab make sure under “Choose network authentication method:” “Microsoft:

Protected EAP (PEAP)” is selected. Then, Click Settings.

Authority –G5.” Authentication Method should be set as “Secured password (EAP-MSCHAPv2)”.

Click Configure next to that.

10. Verify that there is no check mark next to the option to “Automatically use my Windows logon name and password (and domain if any)”. Click OK.

11. Click Ok on SJUMobile Wireless Network Properties

12. A prompt should appear for a Username and Password. 13. Then click Save

Windows XP

1. Click on your wireless signal in your taskbar

2. Click change advance settings

3. In the Wireless Network Connection Properties, select Wireless Networks tab. Make sure there is a check mark next to the option for “Use Windows to configure my wireless networks settings.” Then, Click ADD, under Preferred Networks.

Page 15 of 17 4. When the new window opens up under the “Association” tab. In the area labeled Network name

(SSID) enter in SJUMobile (This is case sensitive). Under Network Authentication select WPA2

5. Under the tab labeled “Authentication,” the EAP type should be selected as “Protected EAP (PEAP).” Then, click Properties.

Page 16 of 17 6. Under the “Trusted root Certification Authorities:” that you have selected “VeriSign Class 3 Public

Primary Certification Authority –G5.” Then, click Configure under Authentication Method.

7. Make sure you “Automatically use my Windows logon name and password (and domain if any) is not selected.

8. Click Ok on the Protected EAP Properties 9. Click Ok on Wireless Network Properties

10. Click Ok on Wireless Network Connection Properties

11. You should see a window pop up requesting you to enter in your username and password.

12. A prompt should appear for a Username and Password.

1. Select Settings

2. Select Wi-Fi

3. Make sure Wi-Fi networking is switched on.

4. Select

SJUMobile
