System Requirements

- A Jolly software product such as Lobby Track or ID Flow

- Microsoft SQL Server 2000 / 2005 / 2008

- Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio or Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio Express

Overview

This guide will walk you through creating a new database in Microsoft SQL Server to be used as a Jolly

Server.

Important Note - Before You Begin

This guide assumes that you have already installed and configured Microsoft SQL Server. If you do not,

Jolly recommends that you use the Jolly Server Installer, which will install a new instance of Microsoft

SQL Server and configure it to be used as a Jolly Server.

You can download the Jolly Server installer from the link in your order confirmation e-mail or run it off

the CD that was included with your software. If you need assistance, please contact

Microsoft SQL Server Configuration

The procedure shown in this guide has been tested with Microsoft SQL Server 2000, 2005 and 2008.

Note: this guide does not document how to secure MS SQL Server; Jolly highly recommends that you

follow security best-practices when configuring your database.

Create a New Database

1. Open the Microsoft Server Management Studio.

2. In the Object Browser frame, right click on the database folder and select “New Database. . .”

3. In the new dialog enter the name of the database (NewCompanyDatabase is used in this

example, but the name can be whatever you prefer) and press OK.

4. From the File menu, select File > Open > Open File

5. Browse to the .SQL script file you were provided. This will open the file in an edit window.

6. Click on the edit window to set focus.

7. Select your new database from the active database drop down list, and click the Execute button.

8. Right click on the Tables folder for the new database, and click Refresh.

9. Verify that the new tables have been added to the database.

Configure the ODBC Connection

Each PC running Jolly software will need to have an ODBC connection created so that it can connect to

Jolly Server.

1. Open the ODBC Data Sources dialog by clicking on the Start Menu > Administrative Tools > Data

Sources (ODBC). If you have configured security for the database, you will need to enter

appropriate credentials.

2. Click on the System DSN tab and click on Add.

Note: If you add a User DSN instead of a System DSN, other users on this PC will not be able to

use it.

3. Select SQL Server. Alternatively, you could select the Native Client if you prefer. Click Finish.

4. Enter a name for the ODBC connection and select the SQL server. Click Next.

5. Select the authentication method you would like to use. Click Next.

6. Change the default database to the database we created in the previous section. Click Next.

7. Click Finish.

8. You can click the Test Data Source button to make sure it is working as expected. Click OK when

you are done to close the dialogs.

Connect to the Jolly Server

1. In the Jolly Software, Lobby Track, ID Flow Card Issue Center, etc, click on File > Connect to Jolly

Server.

2. When the Jolly Server dialog is displayed, click on Configure.

3. Select Connect to Jolly Server, set the connection type to Standard Jolly Server Connection and

enter the Server Address, such as the server name. Note that if you need to specify additional

credentials or customize the connection to your database, change the Connection Type to

appropriate entry.
