Contributing to the education and betterment of the professional community is important to me. I have been involved in a number of different organizations over the years and really appreciate the collegiality of NAFER members and the shared desire of its

members to help each other succeed in their professions. Although I have been an insolvency lawyer for over 20 years, I am relatively new to federal equity receiverships. NAFER and its members have been critical to helping me learn the ropes, and I want to be a part of the effort to further that mission to help educate current members and to bring new members into the fold and to help foster NAFER's diversification efforts.

Enter NAFER efforts here:

This year, I am serving with Geoff Winkler as co-chair of the NAFER annual conference. I served on the conference planning committee in 2020 and participated on a panel.

I am relatively new to federal equity receiverships compared to others in this group, but after joining NAFER, I immediately raised my hand to become more involved because it was apparent how much this organization offers to its members. Although new to NAFER, it is important to me to not just be a member of an

organization but to help contribute to it. The best way to do that is to volunteer to be one of its leaders, which is why I volunteered early on. I have demonstrated my desire to contribute by being part of last year's conference planning process and by co-chairing this year's conference.

My training is as an insolvency lawyer and, in that capacity, I have led a number of different organizations. I am currently serving on the Executive Committee of the Business Law Section of the California Lawyers Association and as a director of the Los Angeles

Bankruptcy Forum and the International Women's Insolvency and Restructuring Confederation. I have served as the president of the Orange County Bankruptcy Forum and the Commercial Law &

Bankruptcy Section of the Orange County Bar Association. I have chaired a couple of conferences, served on a number of different committees and boards, and been a part of a number of different education panels.

Although new to NAFER, I recognize its importance to the field of federal equity receiverships and want to be part of the mission to bring in newer members and to diversify our ranks. I think I bring a fresh set of eyes to the organization to help it accomplish these goals.

As a former regulator, a transactional lawyer and an MBA, my perspectives often bridge

the gap between rigid technical analysis and pragmatic solutions. I will contribute the ability to

consider the business and legal implications. Further, as one of the few Hispanic members, my active participation is demonstrative of NAFER's diverse composition.

Enter NAFER efforts here:

I've been involved with NAFER since its early days. I am a founding member of Newsletter Committee and launched The Receiver's initial issues; served on the Regulatory Outreach Committee; was a panelist in the 2019

Regional Education Series in Dallas; hosted the 2020 International Conference in Miami; and am currently the Co-Chair of the Regional Confrerence Committee.

Enter receivership efforts here:

In 2021, we launched the receiver's Huddle in order to promote informal communictions among NAFER's members and deliver additional value during the pandemic. The 2019 Education Series with Judge Boyle, & Charlene Koonce went a long way towards debunking some myths and negative stereotypes.

I believe we stand on the shoulders of those who came before us.

Socially, technologically, economically, intellectually,... -- progress is a continuum. I support my profession by encouraging access, developing talent, and mentoring the next generation. In that regards, I am a Board Member of the Dallas Hispanic Bar

Foundation, a 501(c)(3) organization committed to the advancement of Hispanics in the legal profession. Since its founding in 2006, the Foundation has awarded over $450,000 in scholarships and internships to Hispanic law students and in grants to Hispanic high school and college students with interest in the law.

An active member since NAFER inital meeting in Ft. Worth; I've heard grumblings about the lack of diversity in our ranks. NAFER is diverse, but need to promote it internally and reflect it externally. We have excellent talent within NAFER, but we need to: involve the next generation in our cases; train them; and develop successors with the benefit of our experince and who don't have to repeat past mistakes to learn the same lessons.

Ever since I joined NAFER shortly after its creation, I've tried to play whatever role I could in furthering its mission and increasing its reach. I did this because I believe it is an essential organization for the Receivership world and I want others to get the same benefit I have been fortunate to get. From serving on committees, to moderating and speaking on panels, to coordinating a regional event, I've put a significant amount of time and resources into trying to make this the best organization possible for the members. I believe serving as a Director will help me continue and further this goal and also continue to increase NAFER's reach and reputation.

One of what I hope to be my biggest contributions is a project I originally started for my blog (Ponzitracker) years ago in the development of a brief bank. I ultimately discontinued it, but am planning to bring it back and incorporate a brief bank into the NAFER website that will provide what I believe is a significant resource for members.

As an attorney, I pride myself on my pro bono efforts. I have served as a Guardian ad Litem for children, represented inmates in 1983 actions, and was successful in petitioning President Obama to commute the sentences of several inmates serving long terms - including one life sentence - for low-level drug crimes.

I have served on numerous boards as the President and Executive Officer of numerous others. As a court-appointed federal equity receiver and counsel to other receivers for more than 25 years, I believe that I have a long-standing and broad-ranging leadership background that can add significant value to the NAFER Board.

I have also served as the Co-Chair of NAFER's Regulatory Outreach Subcommittee, as well as a member of the Best Practices, Amicus and other NAFER committees since I joined the organization in 2003. In my capacity as Outreach Subcommittee Co-Chair, I have led a number of outreach initiatives with officials from the Federal Trade

Commission, Commodities Futures Trade Commission and Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. During my tenure as a member of NAFER, my firms have also sponsored numerous annual NAFER conferences.

I have also had a number of articles published and have presented receivership best practice tools and techniques at various bar association and other continuing legal education programs and events. I have also been considered by senior officials at the FTC's Division of Enforcement, Bureau of Consumer Protection, to serve as the corporate monitor of Herbalife U.S.A. and Volkswagen, U.S.A.

Further I was selected to serve as a member of the Fourth Cohort of the Berrie Fellows Leadership Program (BFLP), which was affiliated with the Harman Institute. The BFLP is a highly-selective eighteen month executive leadership and management program

dedicated to developing executive and organizational management skills.

I currently serve as the Immediate Past President of Temple Sinai of Bergen County, NJ, and have spent the past 10 years as an executive officer, Board member and President of this 2,000 member organization and its related educational programs and institutions.

In addition to having a Bachelor of Arts degree from Colgate University and a Juris Doctorate degree from Cardozo Law School, I received a Masters in Public Policy from Harvard University's John F. Kennedy School of Government.

Based on my longstanding and active association with NAFER, my extensive receivership experience and my management skills and training, I believe I that I can add substantive knowledge and expertise and significant leadership value to the NAFER Board and look forward to working with the NAFER Board during the next term to lead the organization through the challenges that face NAFER and all organizations to overcome the challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic and the economic issues that it has wrought.
