The Spirit comes to help when we’re weak,

A Litany of Praise and Remembrance

Dr. Clifton Howard

The congregation will read the bold text

We give joyful thanks that for God’s faithful people,

Life is lived but never lost.

We praise God for those who have lived well, served faithfully, and loved much.

We praise God for the memories that flood over us in this moment.

We are grateful for the difference their service has made,

And grateful for an opportunity to offer love to their families.

Heaven is yearning to give them new life.

We praise the God of Heaven, our God of hope.

Dr. Lisa Neslony

Lay members from all of our Central Texas Conference churches have been remembered during the annual meetings of their respective District Conferences. Memorial books with the names of those lay members from each district are present

at the altar this morning.

As the name of each district is called, the members of that district will stand as they are able. After the name of the district is read and a bell is tolled, the entire congregation will respond with:

“Thank you, Lord, for these, your servants.”

The members of that district may then be seated.

Response of the People

Rev. Bryan Dalco

The congregation will read the bold text.

Brothers and sisters in Christ, at your ordination, you received authority to read the Holy Scripture

in the Church of God, to preach the Word, to celebrate the Sacraments, to order the life of the

Church, and to connect the Church and the world. By grace you did many things that seemed to be

beyond your power.

We thank God that you were given the vision to be faithful. Death and illness have not come

on schedule. The truth has not always been easy to preach. We know something of the grace

by which you have lived, and we thank God for your vision and faithfulness.

Never think lightly of the great good that God has wrought through you. Continue to be true to your

calling. May God’s love and power be with you always. Let us pray together:

All: God of grace, you fill your servants with your vision. You empower your servants with your

Spirit. We give thanks for the ministry of these men and women, and for the ways in which you

have ministered to us through them. Give them a sense of your abiding presence that they may

continue to love and serve you, and ever grow in grace and knowledge of Jesus Christ, in

Passing of the Mantle

Bishop Mike Lowry

Representatives of the retiring and incoming class of ordinands kneel:

Retiring Elder: Rev. Allyson Paxton - Receiving Elder: Rev. Zach Stiefel

Retiring Deacon: Rev. Judy Holloway - Receiving Deacon: Rev. Evey McKellar

The bishop takes mantles and places them on the shoulders of the representatives of the retiring class, saying: In the book of Kings we read of the prophet Elijah’s ministry. The mantle, symbolic of

submission to God, fell upon the younger prophet, Elisha, and the spirit of Elijah rested upon Elisha.

Members of the retiring class rise and place mantles on the shoulders of a deacon and an elder representing the new full member class, saying:

I transfer this mantle from one generation to another, indicating that the responsibilities and dedication of one generation will be caught up and carried on by another, and the spirit of today’s Elijahs will rest upon today’s Elishas.

*Confirming of Appointments

The congregation will read the bold text.

After much prayer, and through the guidance of the Holy Spirit, and with the District Superintendents

and Staff-Parish Relations Committees, I have completed the confirmation of appointments. This is an

awesome task. With fear and trembling over this great responsibility entrusted to us by God, I, J.

Michael Lowry, by the authority vested in me as Presiding Bishop of the Central Texas Annual

Conference of The United Methodist Church, declare the appointments for the clergy of this

conference to be confirmed as printed and distributed to you.

Clergy and laity who are standing: God calls us today to continue in ministry together. We

celebrate God’s faithfulness and forgiveness in times past, God’s love for us in the present and

God’s vision for our shared future. We stand together in the power and promise of the Holy Spirit.

God calls us today!

Will all who are moving to new places of ministry, and the laity who are receiving them, please stand

as you are able?

Clergy and laity who are standing: God calls us today to new life, new love and new ministry.

Together we celebrate the shared promise of joyful service, faithful journeys and spiritual

renewal through the living Christ. We stand together in the power and promise of the Holy Spirit.
