Dos
Use both letters and numbers
Use special characters (For example, @#$%&) Use UPPER and lower case
Use at least eight (8) characters Type your password carefully Use combined or scrambled words Change your password periodically
Don'ts
Do not use personal information Do not use known names
Do not write your password on a document or diary Do not recycle old passwords
Do not send through mail or SMS
Do not disclose your password to any third party including bank staff

Use of Token as Second Level Authentication
ii.
Encryption of Data on the Online Banking services.
iii.
Session time-out after few minutes of inactivity on the Online banking
platform which will require the user to log in again
iv.
Intelligent Authentication through the use of combination of factors
Should there be three successive incorrect attempts to log-in, the customer’s access to the online banking application will be disabled automatically.

Check the “padlock” symbol and site certificate
The symbol is usually on the left hand corner of the address bar of the browser. Double-click on the padlock symbol to reveal the certificate of the site. This way, you will be able to authenticate validity of the site to avoid falling prey at cloned sites.
Use a registered anti-virus software/personal firewall
This can guard against unauthorized access and virus download onto the computer or device when on the Internet.
Check your accounts regularly
Review your account balances/transactions regularly to ensure reliability.
Always log-out after using Online Banking
Ensure log-out on the Online Banking Service to avoid unauthorized use.
Scam Email

You may receive emails that seem to have originated from Unity Bank Plc requesting you to disclose your login details or asking you to fill a form online with your login detail due to a system upgrade by the bank.
Don't: These are probably from fraudsters trying to access or perpetrate
fraud on your account.
The Bank will never request you to disclose personal or security details via
email or online form.
Fraudsters usually send same emails to as many mailboxes as they can access. These emails more often than not request that you click on a link to ‘verify your account’, ‘confirm your sign-in details’, or a similarly phrased request. These are common scams.
These links that fraudsters advise on scam emails direct one to another web page for information update. Please be warned, do not click on the links let alone key in information on the pages.
Phishing & Vishing

Tips to Guard against Phishing & Vishing
Where one receives a suspicious e-mail that seems to be originated from Unity Bank Plc please ensure the following due diligence:
Do not respond to the message, or click on any of the links. Mark the mail as Spam on your mailbox.
Check to make sure that your virus definitions and anti-spyware are up-to-date and scan the computer, especially if you accidentally clicked on the link or attachment in the e-mail.
Other Tips on Personal Information
Always use a secure website when submitting card details or personal information online. Look for the Security Certificate and “https” links before entering your personal information.
Exercise caution when shopping online. Enter card and personal information only when it involves a transaction you initiate and on websites you trust.
