Safety instructions

Signs and symbols

The meaning of the symbols used In the safety instructions of the instruction manuals, the

startup/unpacking instructions or other documentation provided, in the screen displays on the tester (within VASPC) during the operation and on the products is given below:

Warning!

Texts with this symbol contain information concerning your safety and how you can reduce the risk of severe and fatal injuries.

The WARNINGsymbol calls for particular attention as regards your safety.

Caution!

Texts with this symbol contain information regarding how you can avoid damage to the vehicle and to the device.

The caution symbol informs that non-compliance with the information can lead to damage to the vehicle and/or tester (e.g.: Ensure that the touch-screen display is not touched with sharp, angular objects.).

Tip

Texts with this symbol contain additional, useful information.

A Tip symbol points out important information regarding the product, its operation and other relevant matters.

Reference to further safety instructions

General safety instructions applicable to the VAS 505x and VAS 6150 tester family on the whole are listed below. Further safety instructions are given in the instruction manuals. Therefore, read the instruction manuals before the use.

Safety instructions can also be displayed on the display of the tester. Observe all the instructions displayed.

(5)

IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS

1.

Warning!

Read all the instructions.

2. Warning!

If the mains cable or the device is damaged, it must not be used until a qualified specialist has checked it.

3. Warning!

Do not let cables or lines hang over the edges of tables, benches or desks. Do not let the cables or lines come in contact with hot parts or running fans.

4. Warning!

Use of an extension cord is not permitted. Only the specified cables may be used for testing purposes.

5. Warning!

The device must always be isolated from the mains when not in use. Never pull the mains cable out of the socket using the cable. Grip the plug housing to pull it from the mains supply.

6. Warning!

The tester must not be operated in close proximity of open fuel tanks, since otherwise there could be risk of fire or explosion.

7. Warning!

If you are working on IC machines, you must take care that there is sufficient ventilation. Otherwise there could be the risk of intoxication.

(6)

8. Warning!

Use the device exclusively in accordance with the description. Use only the accessories recommended by the manufacturer.

9. Warning!

Risk of explosions

The devices have internal parts that can generate sparks and must not therefore be exposed to

inflammable vapors. The device should be operated at least 460 mm (18 inch) above the ground surface since petrol and other possible vapors settle on the ground.

10. Warning!

Devices under mains voltage correspond to safety class 1 and are equipped with a mains cable checked for safety. They may be connected to the mains with earthed equipment grounding conductor (TN networks) only or mains sockets with earthed equipment grounding conductor.

11. Warning!

During the test runs, fasten the diagnostic laptop securely to the rear seat of the vehicle. A second person must operate the diagnostic laptop on the rear seat.

Operating on the front seat or without secure fastening is not permitted for safety purposes (e.g. deployment of the airbags).

12. Caution!

Fluctuations and deviations of the mains voltage beyond the admissible tolerance can lead to malfunctioning and damage.

(7)

13. Warning!

Electrical ignition systems have voltages up to about 30 kV. It is mandatory to observe the general safety guidelines for workshops.

14. Warning!

Unauthorised opening of the tester including accessories or tampering may cause substantial hazards for the person doing it and the device.

15. Warning!

If the mains cable, a diagnostic or test lead, the tester or any other accessory under voltage is damaged, it must not be used until a qualified specialist has given a clearance.

16. Warning!

If you are not going to use the device for a long time, please switch if off using the on/off button and isolate it from the mains, if the battery is charged. Just switching off is not sufficient to isolate the power supply, charging circuit and any connected accessories from the mains.

17. Warning!

During a thunderstorm data transmission lines must not be connected or removed and the device must not be operated.

18. Caution! Workshop vehicle - ventilation

When operating the VAS 6150 in a workshop vehicle, take care that the table power supply for the tester and printer has sufficient ventilation. Remember that even when the tester is switched off, the battery is getting charged and the printer is on-line. This is true even for the energy saving mode.

(8)

19. Caution!

When connecting other vehicles

The VAS 505x and VAS 6150 diagnostic devices were developed or qualified for vehicles of the

Volkswagen group. Directly connecting the tester or diagnostic radio head /interface to vehicles of other manufacturers can therefore cause damage to the vehicle.

For possible testing of other vehicles using the generally applicable OBD functions in the self-diagnosis, the VAS 5052/16 OBD adapter cable must, therefore, be connected between the diagnostic cable and diagnostic interface of the vehicle (with fewer line connections).

20. Caution!

While handling the battery

 Only trained personnel may change the batteries.

 Never short circuit the battery.  Never throw the battery into fire.

 Dispose of/recycle the battery only in empty condition in accordance with the local regulations.

Safety instructions for radio-operated devices

21.

Warning!

No changes must be done to the antenna of devices with radio license, e.g. repositioning or use of other antennas or transmitters.

22. Warning!

Do not use any portable radio transmitter in the vicinity of unshielded detonators or in an explosive

environment (e.g. a device for wireless networks (WLAN) or Bluetooth), unless the device were adapted in such a way that it is suitable for such a purpose.

23. Warning!

You can read the notes regarding the Bluetooth and W-LAN country registrations in the VAS 6150 operating instructions or the VAS 5054A/VAS5055 device manual

PRESERVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS!

5054A and is pre-installed for this.

The diagnostic radio head is connected to the diagnostic interface of the vehicle and

communicates with the diagnostic laptop using Bluetooth (wireless) or the USB cable.

The diagnostic interface of the vehicle supplies power to the VAS 5054A.

6.6 Diagnostic interface VAS 5055

The diagnostic interface VAS 5055 makes the connection between the vehicle and the VAS 6150 via the permanently integrated USB cable. The VAS 5055 is connected to the diagnostic interface of the vehicle which supplies power to it.

6.7 Further

information

Before you start using the VAS 6150, you must also read the “Panasonic CF-52

instruction manual” with further important details regarding the device, accessories and

their maintenance.

For any provided and pre-installed application software, also take its accompanying

documentation into consideration.
