GRC 275 Final Project
Create a NEW “personal portfolio website” showcasing your Web Design skills
Create a “New” personal portfolio website for your final project for GRC 275. Include a link to a word .doc resume, thumbnails with links to all samples from our GRC 275 course work, and possibly some links to your own sample artwork and/or other coursework. Make this website new, modern, cutting edge, and refreshing in comparison to some of the other boring examples you did during the semester. This website will need to be saved at the root of your web space. You will need to rename your current index.html to a dif name like cmp.html.
Requirements:
1. Create your website with a minimum 4 pages, name pages what you want. You will need to save the main page as index.html. The index page for your final project must be the default page index.html within your web host account.
(example names index, gallery, resume, contact)
2. Must have a background which makes the website look professional, this means it is the same on all pages, your background should expand (repeat and show) no matter what size the web browser is (try creating a repeating background 1x600 or whatever height you want and have repeat y only/horizontal)
3. Must have a consistent standardized rollover style main nav on all pages. Use CSS or Javascript or ??
4. Must somewhere have a personal intro about you and your skills and goals along with a picture of yourself
5. Must somewhere link to your word .doc resume
6. If you don’t yet have a resume you will need to create one
Go to google.com and type the following to get some ideas:
resume.doc and design
7. Recommended, use techniques learned during the semester like div, float, two/three column style, box model, class, layers/z-index, positioning, etc.
8. Must also include an example of a form
9. Form must submit info to your email, use http://www.response-o-matic.com or similar free form service or check your web host for form scripts, like CGI or PHP scripts.
10. Add meta tags to your pages, keywords and description (Insert>HTML> Head Tags> Keywords AND Insert>HTML> Head Tags> Description)
11. Must make site readable, meaning take care to not put too much text, remember people don’t want to read your life story, also use text with good contrast to your background, black text on a white background 8-10pt is always the most readable. Recommended, increase line height too.
12. Must have all the normal reqs, like alt tags on all images, unique titles on pages, universal nav throughout, page should display well on the most common monitor
width setting of 1024 or 1280, pages should pass validation, etc. Please make sure to put descriptive tiles inside <title> tags.
13. Must encode this website using XHTML 1.0 trans and use only one external stylesheet.
14. Must provide a gallery with thumbnails, each sized approx (128x96), which link to all work from this class including the course management page (A1) which you will need to rename, see below. (You can create an image or screenshot of a webpage to use as a thumbnail: on a pc by using printscreen and open photoshop then edit>paste or on a mac apple+shift+4 and then opening image on the desktop, however may not work in our lab, or use program called grab often available in lab)
15. This final step is required; make this personal website the main page for your webspace. You will have to rename your existing course management page (A1) which is named index to some other name like cmp.html. Make the first page of this assignment/site the index page and put in the root of your webspace account. I need access to a page which links to all your assignments in order to grade your
coursework.
16. Do not use the same exact layout used in your other GRC 275 pages or use a prior website from other courses like GRC 175
17. Extra Credit, Highly recommended for those who are not paying for web hosting. Register a new domain for your website and upgrade to a pay webhost which gives you a static IP account in order to be able to have a domain name assigned to an IP address, please talk to me for help. Domain should be something useful like first and last name like: avalentiner.com or AdamValentiner.com and not a dumb name like av09fastfuriousvegaswithcats.com
Here’s a generic resume taken from Microsoft Word XP on a PC. You can use this as a template to start out with if you don’t have a resume, plug in your info.
