Cooking/Baking Contest Rules:

1. All entrants MUST be a Grange member in good standing

2. Entry forms must be signed by the cook/baker who made the entry. 3. Entries MUST be homemade by the entrant. No boxed mixes as a

major ingredient (pre-made pie crusts are ok)

4. The MAIN ingredient-proportionately- must be apples, nuts (butter), berries or sweet potatoes.

5. A printed legible recipe enclosed in a correctly labeled envelope must be attached to the top of each entry.

6. One entry per category is allowed. There are 13 categories in 4 divisions.

7. Entries must be registered at the official check-in times of Thursday 3-5PM or Friday 8-10AM. With the official NC State Grange Entry Form completed and attached.

8. Any past winning recipe MAY NOT be submitted for entry. 9. Judges decisions are FINAL. Judges are non-Grange members.

Cooking/Baking Instructions:

1. Copy recipe on an index card or photograph recipe. In addition to recipe title, write your name, Grange, recipe division & category. EXAMPLE: Apples/Cakes, Apple Crunch Cake, Betty Crocker, Cooks-A-Lot Grange #0000

2. Place recipe in ENVELOPE. Do not seal envelope.

3. Label envelope FRONT with the proper category, division and age. Example: Apples/Cakes Adult

4. Label BACK with your name & Grange.

5. Do not place entry form in envelope; only the recipe card. 6. Attach (tape) unsealed envelope with recipe inside, FRONT SIDE

UP to the top of the cake, pie, cookies or candy.

7. Check in at contest registration table with these completed items for EACH ENTRY! Food entry with envelope. Recipe attached to top and properly labeled.

1. All contestants MUST be a Grange member in good standing. 2. All entries MUST be the original work of the contestant.

3. Each piece of artwork or photograph submitted must have been completed since September 1, 2013. 4. Each piece of artwork or photography submitted must have a title.

5. All entries in the photography contest must be a 5x7 image.

6. All entries in the photography contest must be matted in a white 8x10 mat. (NO FRAMES!) 7. All art entries must be mounted or matted.

8. No more than one entry per person, per division. A person may enter 4 photographs and 4 pieces of artwork.

9. Each entry MUST be submitted with the appropriate entry form. The completed entry form MUST be attached to each entry. Entries submitted without an for will be disqualified from judging.

10. All entries must be received at the contest locations at Convention no later than 10AM on Friday. Consult contest schedule for specific entry times.

11. Instagram entries must be tagged with user @NCGrange and the hashtag #2014Contest must be used in the caption by 10AM, the Friday of Convention. This form must also be submitted. All entries will be checked to make sure a form was entered.

Art entries will be judged based on the use of medium selected, craftsmanship and skill, composition and/or presentation of subject,

originality, and adherence to contest rules. Photography entries will be judged based on composition, arrangement, interest, presentation and use of lighting. Judges are non-Grange members. Decisions of the judges are final.

Talent Contest Rules:

1. All contestants MUST be a Grange member in good standing.

2. Only ONE talent entry per person. (ie: the person may only appear once in the talent show, for one performance)

3. TIME LIMIT: Maximum time allowed is 5 minutes. No minimum. Two points per minute, or portion thereof will be deducted from the total points for all performances going over 5 minutes.

4. Contestants must complete and submit a talent show entry form. Performances submitted without a form will be disqualified from judging. 5. Performances will be judged based on the following with 1-10 points awarded in each area; stage presence, appropriateness of dress/costume, preparation and skill of presentation, suitability of act, and audience appeal.

Writing Entry Rules:

1. All contestants must be a Grange member in good standing. 2. All entries must be the original work of the contestant.

3. Papers submitted for judging must have been completed since September 1st, 2012.

4. Only one entry per person, per division. A person may enter a maximum of 1 poem and 1 creative writing piece. 5. Each entry must be a minimum length of 1 page and a maximum length of 2 pages.

6. All entries must be typed and double-spaced. 7. The theme must be written at the top of the page.

8. All entries must follow the established theme as stated above. Entries not following the theme will be disqualified from the contest judging. 9. Each entry must be submitted with a writing contest entry form. Entries submitted without an entry form will be disqualified from the contest

judging.

10. Writing contest entries must be submitted to the NC state Grange office, 1734 Wilkesboro Hwy, Statesville , NC 28625 by September 1, 2013. Entries will be judged on overall composition, appeal , writers use of theme, grammar, punctuation, spelling and adherence to the contest rules. Judges are non-Grange members. Decisions of the judges are final.

A. PURPOSE

To recognize and honor before the public and the Grange membership, Churches for their outstanding interest, dedication and labor in the spiritual life and well-being of their communities.

B. ELIGIBILITY

Any Church nominated by a local Grange in North Carolina is eligible for an award. Only one nomination is allowed per Grange. Therefore, consider that a Grange’s nomination can be from only one of the following three categories:

1. 250+ members

2. 101 - 249 members

3. 100 or less members

RECRUITER OF THE YEAR

Recruiter of the Year is designed to recognize the Grange member who has shown the greatest success in building the Grange via their efforts to bring in new, reinstated or associate members.

This Grange member expends extra effort to share the Grange with others. The Grange relies on the success of these Grange members, which boosts the growth and vitality of the Grange.

In order to receive this honor, the nominated Granger must have successfully recruited a minimum of 5 persons into membership in a local Grange between August 16, 2012 and August 15, 2013. Submit an entry form (no supplemental information is necessary) it must be received by SEPTEMBER 1, 2014. Recognition will be made at the State Convention.

1. GRANGE OF THE YEAR

B. PURPOSE

To recognize and honor before the Grange membership and the public, those outstanding Granges that are involved in the life of their communities, with an emphasis on Grange activities.

C. ELIGIBILITY

Local Granges in the state of North Carolina.

C. Granges are to complete the Grange of the Year checklist. Your checklist, Family Living Report, Community Service Report and Program Directors reports will accompany this checklist for the judging process, and winner selection.

D. There are two categories for this prize; Small Grange of the Year and Large Grange of the Year. Small is a Grange with a membership of 50 members or less and large is 51 or more at the June 2014 quarterly report.

E. CASH PRIZE: $300 EACH

2. FAMILY OF THE YEAR A. PURPOSE

To recognize a Grange family as a result of their outstanding accomplishments and involvement in their local Grange and community activities. B. ELIGIBILITY

A local Grange may nominate any family with membership in that local Grange. The activities of immediate family members (parents and/or children) will be considered. Nominations must be made by the local Grange where the Grange family’s membership exists.

Any adult members nominated by a local Grange in North Carolina are eligible. A local Grange may nominate one adult person in the Granger of the Year Contest. Nominations must be made by the Grange where the Granger’s membership exists.
