Wayne CAT Board

All Wayne Ruby SuperSystem Installations Utilizing DCPT’s January 22, 1998

Dave Watlington

Wayne and VeriFone have completed development and testing of an improved solution to interface the VeriFone Ruby SuperSystem POS with Wayne DCPTs/CATs and the MSM (for debit).

The new solution, which is know as the Wayne Standard CAT Interface Board, provides the following benefits:

¾ Replaces the B&B RS232/485 converter, providing superior protection against power spikes with on-board circuitry and manages signal loading on the CAT communication lines.

¾ The standard CAT I/F Board will be installed in the Wayne Electronic Central. This provides for a central point of connection for all Wayne equipment and follows standard wiring and connection practices used for all Wayne dispenser/CAT interfaces.

¾ Spreads the CAT connections over four (4) RS485 channels, thus providing more robust

communications and allowing the ability to isolate individual CAT channels for troubleshooting and diagnostics.

¾ Supports a diagnostics port, which allows data monitoring and capture of CAT data communication traffic, also provides ability for future enhancements such as direct command level CAT diagnostics.

¾ Easy to view status indicators giving an "at a glance" status on CAT data communication.

Note: The B&B converter will no longer be required when using the Wayne CAT board however, the following adapter from VeriFone is required to connect the RS232 interface cable to the CAT board/Electronic Central cabinet via the DB25F connector.

Ruby “New base” Application Requirements

All CAT boards that are installed with VeriFone Ruby SuperSystems utilizing its’ “New base”

applications will NOT need to be re-jumpered (JP5 & JP29) for the “RTS “ communications parameter. The default CAT board configuration will suffice when installing with a Ruby SuperSystem “Newbase” applications.

Note: New base applications may be identified by the presence of the “Maintenance” menu in the application while at the switcher mode.

Ruby “Old base” Application Requirements

All CAT boards that are installed with VeriFone Ruby SuperSystems utilizing its’ “Old base” applications

WILL need to be re-jumpered (JP5 & JP29) for the “Auto enable “ communications parameter. Refer to

the installation drawings in the following pages.
