About the University

National University of Study and Research in Law, Ranchi (NUSRL) has been established by Act No. 4 of Jharkhand State Assembly in 2010. The University has subsequently been recognized by University Grants Commission (UGC) in September 2011 u/s 22 of the UGC Act of 1956.

National University of Study and Research in Law, Ranchi provides unparalleled academic and career enhancement programs. Our commitment is towards holistic personality development and we intend to create academia of first rate that will endeavour to transform human lives. We create strategic lawyers with a global mind set. We are working to define and fortify justice education in India and offer the widest choice of courses to students, which include viz., B.A., LL.B. (Hons.) which varies over as many as five areas of specialization, the list of which is inclusive but not exhaustive of Corporate Law, Constitutional Law, Intellectual property Law, International Law and Criminal Law in the present. Our courses at the undergraduate level include intra mooting exercises as a part of Continuous Assessment Test from the budding stage along with other application based exercises and evaluation schemes including research papers and drafting to make the students adept and train them to face the challenges of the ever increasing up gradation and use of technology in law.

At the postgraduate level, the university offers LL.M. in Business Laws, Intellectual Property Rights, International Trade Law and Law, science and Technology. Our experimentation in future is to integrate the legal ingenuity with that of management

skills i.e. the BB.A LL.B (Hons) course at the Undergraduate l e v e l w h i c h h a s a c h i e v e d g l o b a l recognition. Being committed to the mission of achieving excellence in higher e d u c a t i o n , t h e u n i v e r s i t y o f f e r s Doctorate in various s p h e r e s o f knowledge. National University of study and Research in Law, Ranchi has also planned to step in to initiate a D i s t a n c e E d u c a t i o n Programme, designed to update knowledge and skills through e-learning a n d r e g u l a r c o n t a c t classes which will not only be a value addition in terms of knowledge and career growth for the taught, but shall also

expand the horizon of thinking, research and improvisation of teaching skills for the faculty of the University. Our curriculum framing is done with a global perspective and delivered at world class standard to generate especially skilled global legal professionals. The curriculum undergoes regular updating with inputs from some of the brightest legal minds in the country and abroad.

is also equipped with distinguished visiting faculties of national repute as well as a good mix of highly qualified and experienced young associates. A number of faculty members have exposure of having studied and being trained at universities of international fame such as Linkoping University in Sweden, Norwegian University and Charles University at Prague which in turn benefits our meritorious students. One of our faculties has previously worked under Ministry of Education, Singapore. With a view to promote comparative scholarship and expose students and faculty alike to new ideas, the university has also taken initiative to invite scholars from leading universities.

In recent years, we have had visiting faculty from universities such as National Law School of India University, Bangalore Mr. A Jayagovind and Mr. Sitaram Kakarala, Prof. Surinder Kaur Verma, Director of International Society of International Law, Dr. Manoj Kr Sinha, Director of Indian Law Institute, Delhi and Prof. VK Gupta from Jamia Millia University and Prof. VK Dixit from Univerity of Delhi, Prof. Salim Akhtar of Aligarh Muslim University, Dr. GP Verma, Former Vice Chancellor of Ram Manohar Lohia National Law University, Lucknow, Prof. AS Bhat from Univeristy of Kashmir, Srinagar. Prof. VS Mani from Jaipur National University, Prof. DN Jauhar, who was the former Vice Chancellor of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar University, Agra are the visiting faculty of the University. We have also invited Dr. KN Chaturvedi who was former secretary to the Ministry of Law and Justice, Government of India and attorneys, associates and partners from firms of repute such as Amarchand Mangal Das, Lakshmi Kumaran and Sridharan and others. Some of our alumni who have acquired higher qualifications from prestigious institutions and garnered varied experience share their learning on topics of contemporary interest in law and practice for the benefit of the students.

We have faculty which provides meaningful inputs in exposing students to practical facets of law. In the year 2015, our students received multifarious exposure in the form of workshop by leading law Firm Khaitan and Co., where Mr. RN Jhun Jhun Wala Managing Partner of the firm of Kolkata Offices who took the students beyond the perimeters of stereotypical theoretical knowledge and taught them technical nuances and craftsmanship of practice in the legal profession.

At the undergraduate level University offers Five-year Integrated BA LLB(Hons.) Degree Program which consists of ten semesters. The University commenced its Research Program in January 2012. The process for admitting students to its LLM (one

through Entrance Test, Group Discussion and Viva-voce. Within a span of very Short Time the University has considerably spread its academic wings and has established its outreach in the country and abroad. LL.B. Degree Program

(vi) Criteria for Reservation for the Admission Seats of Jharkhand:

As per NUSRL, Ranchi Act 2010:

“Fifty percent of the total seats of a particular discipline of study shall be reserved for residents of Jharkhand State or those who have passed the qualifying examination from the institutions located in Jharkhand State and to the wards of the Employees of the Central/State Government/University/Public Undertaking/Corporations/Boards/Academies, etc. working in Jharkhand State. Reservation policy in this regard shall be applicable for admission against these seats.”
