Aims of the Conference
• To review and explore the impact of the NHS Act (2012) on the commissioning and delivery of Psychological Therapies in Primary Care
• To review and explore the introduction of the new contractual arrangements including AQP (Any Qualified Provider) and PbR (Payment by Results)
• To review and explore the status of current research and evaluation of Psychological Therapies in Primary Care including NICE (National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence) guidelines and IAPT (Improving Access to Psychological Therapies) evaluation
• To provide a forum for all delegates to contribute and influence the debate
Professor Patrick Pietroni is a Jungian Analyst. He retired as Dean of General Practice and Professor of Community Care and Primary Health at the University of London. He has acted as consultant to numerous psychotherapeutic organisations both voluntary and statutory and is now Director of the Centre for Psychological Therapies in Primary Care.
Richard Evans is Chairman of Artemis Trust, whose mission is to make effective talking therapy available to the public. He has been pivotal in establishing the CORE system of evaluation and the Association of Counsellors in Primary Care.
Joan Foster is a trained counsellor and supervisor. She is immediate past Chair of Counsellors and Psychotherapists in Primary Care (CPC), which she co-founded in 1998. She was inaugural Chair of the Psychotherapeutic Counselling Section of the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) founded in 2005.
Dr Martin Wilkinson is Director of Postgraduate GP Education with NHS Midlands and a GP of 30 years’ experience, currently working in inner city Birmingham. He is an Honorary Senior Lecturer at University of Birmingham Department of Primary Care, and member of the West Midlands Local Education Training Board.
Andrew Keefe has a long history of working within mental health services, in health and social care sectors and in a range of settings. He is currently the Associate Director of Mental Health and Dementia for Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire PCT cluster, and is closely involved in the introduction of Any Qualified Provider for Talking Therapies in the locality.
Mike Thomas is Professor of Eating Disorders, Dean of Health and Social Care and Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Academic) at the University of Chester. He has spent nearly 30 years in clinical practice and academic life and has worked with clients experiencing eating disorders since 1990.

• Approaching Chester City Centre via the A5116
• At the roundabout by Morrison’s petrol station, take the 3rd exit along the A5480 (Countess Way)
• At the roundabout take the 1st exit to join the A540 Parkgate Road
• Pass under the sandstone viaduct. Exton Park entrance is 200m on the right. • Alternatively, follow the A540 (which runs from Hoylake and leads directly to
Exton Park, as above)
From the south and west (A5, A55, A483, A41)
• Approaching Chester City Centre via the A483, over the Grosvenor Bridge, crossing the River Dee
• At the roundabout by the Castle take the 1st exit on to the A5268 (St Martin’s Way)
• At ‘Fountains’ roundabout take the 1st exit on to the A540 (signposted Ellesmere Port A5116, Hoylake)
• At traffic signals continue ahead on the A540 for 50m and turn left into Exton Park
From the east (A51, A55, A56, M53, M6),
• Approach Chester City Centre via the A56 (Hoole Rd), over Hoole Bridge (the railway station on the left)
• At the next roundabout take the 3rd exit on to the A5268 (St Oswald’s Way) • At the ‘Fountains’ roundabout take the 3rd exit to the A540
(signposted Ellesmere Port A5116, Hoylake)
• Continue ahead on the A540 through two sets of traffic signals • After 50m turn left into Exton Park
