This user’s guide provides an overview of the tools embedded within Next Navigator in the SPN environment. Use this guide to explore the features of next navigator and build Next Generation Assessments.

My Workspaces
My Workspaces is the online tool that helps you:
• create new, original Next Generation Assessments (NGA’s) • modify exemplar NGA’s
• organize NGA’s into folders viewable in a bookcase • connect SPN resources to NGA’s
• revise and improve NGA’s anywhere you can access SPN
• rate, recommend, and share NGA’s with your colleagues and friends

1. Step by step wizard guides you as you create and revise NGA’s – just follow the tabs along the top and save when each is completed.
2. Aligned standards are editable and viewable at anytime by returning to Step 1 3. “Actions” links are available throughout the creative process

The Verb Analyzer
2. The verbs in the text field are highlighted by corresponding color according to the graphic (3).

The next|toolkit: Up Close
When the “Application
Model” is selected, the wizard is launched in the right hand column.
This Q&A tool guides you through an analysis of the assessment.
When the “Question
Suggestions” is selected, the question tree is launched in the right hand column.
Questions from each
quadrant can be copied and pasted into a workspace. Then modify them to fit the content.
Note: this feature is accessed through Step 2. The tab “Student Work” is a different function that can be accessed to link student work samples to the workspace.

This “Scoring Guide” tab accesses a step-by-step digital rubric builder.
These text boxes assist in creating topic headings for the rubric (scoring guide).

Next Generation Assessments
Sample NGA’s can be accessed through the “Alignment Search.”
Once “Subject” and “Grade” are selected, aligned exemplars are identified by the NGA icon. Click on the NGA icon to launch the viewer
Additional Actions:
Save a New Copy –edit the exemplar and save it to a bookshelf.
Recommend – connect SPN colleagues and friends to great resources.

Adding SPN Resources to your workspace is as easy as-
SPN helps save and organize all resources in one place: bookshelves. Use these features to keep everything in one place.
1. Access the bookshelf anytime by selecting the “breadcrumb” My Workspaces
2. Open folders you create when you first save an NGA from this drop down menu. 3. Scroll through files by holding the cursor over the arrow.

The Implementation Calendar

Editing the Implementation Calendar#1 – Navigate to the different phases of the calendar using the tabs along the top The list of tasks under the tab can be edited or new tasks can be created, assigned due dates, and targeted for responsibility. Add/Delete Editors
Once a calendar has been created by the school leader, s/he can add other editors using this tool. Access
“Add/Delete Editors” from the Actions box.

View My Tasks
#1 – This key indicates the status of the tasks. The tab reflects the least advanced stage of the status of all items on that task.
#2 – The list shows the status of individual task. The screen below shows more detail about the responsibility feature.

#1 – These are the tasks within the Planning Phase of this sample.
#2 – These entries show the tasks, who edited them, and when were they edited.
Summary Screen
This view shows a full look at the implementation tasks for all phases.

Deactivate the calendar to stop updates to tasks or completion.
