PRELUDE Prelude on Hyfrydol Flor Peeters

ANNOUNCEMENTS

CONFESSION AND FORGIVENESS ONE: In the name of the Father,

and of the ☩ Son, and of the Holy Spirit.

MANY: AMEN

ONE: God of all mercy and consolation, come to the help of your people, turning us from our sin to live for you alone. Give us the power of your Holy Spirit that we may confess our sin, receive your

forgiveness, and grow into the fullness of Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord.

MANY: AMEN

ONE: Let us confess our sin in the presence of God and of one another. Silence is kept for reflection.

ONE: Most merciful God,

MANY: we confess that we are captive to sin and cannot free ourselves. We have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. For the sake of your Son, Jesus Christ, have mercy on us. Forgive us, renew us, and lead us, so that we may delight in your will and walk in your ways, to the glory of your holy name. AMEN

ONE: In the mercy of almighty God, Jesus Christ was given to die for us, and for his sake God forgives us all our sins. As a called and ordained minister of the church of Christ, and by his authority, I therefore declare to you the entire forgiveness of all your sins, in the name of the Father, and of the ☩ Son, and of the Holy Spirit.

PRAYER OF THE DAY

ONE: In blinding light you showed your disciples a hint of your power and purpose. Reveal yourself to us today. Show us what you desire of us and how to broadcast your love to the world, for the sake of the one who keeps company with the prophets Moses and Elijah, Jesus Christ our Lord.

MANY: AMEN

SCRIPTURE Luke 9:28-36

28 Now about eight days after these sayings Jesus took with him Peter and John and James, and went up on the mountain to pray. 29 And while he was praying, the appearance of his face changed, and his clothes became dazzling white. 30 Suddenly they saw two men, Moses and Elijah, talking to him. 31 They

appeared in glory and were speaking of his departure, which he was about to accomplish at Jerusalem. 32 Now Peter and his companions were weighed down with sleep; but since they had stayed awake, they saw his glory and the two men who stood with him. 33 Just as they were leaving him, Peter said to Jesus, “Master, it is good for us to be here; let us make three dwellings, one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah”—not knowing what he said. 34 While he was saying this, a cloud came and overshadowed them; and they were terrified as they entered the cloud. 35 Then from the cloud came a voice that said, “This is my Son, my Chosen; listen to him!” 36 When the voice had spoken, Jesus was found alone. And they kept silent and in those days told no one any of the things they had seen.

ONE: Holy Wisdom, Holy Word.

MANY: Thanks be to God.

APOSTLES’ CREED

ONE: Let us confess our faith in the triune God-with-us:

MANY: I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth.

I believe in Jesus Christ, God’s only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,

born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended to the dead.

On the third day he rose again; he ascended into heaven,

(5)

he is seated at the right hand of the Father, and he will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit,

the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. AMEN

PRAYERS

ONE: With the whole people of God in Christ Jesus, let us pray for the church, those in need, and all of God’s creation.

silence

ONE: Friend and King of Kings, people all over this planet are suffering quietly in the shadows,

unnoticed by most of us. Help us to see them and to help them, and give them strength so that they may see you in us. Please help them feel loved, safe, and worthy of your love. Hear us, O God,

MANY: Your mercy is great.

ONE: Holy Spirit, please be with the people in our family and our pets. We care for them and love them. Forgive them when they sin and keep them safe. Especially all the birds, Daphne the dog, and Flare the really orange fish. Hear us, O God,

MANY: AMEN

MANY: we rejoice in the birth of Jesus, who came among the poor to bring the riches of your grace. As you have blessed us with your gifts, let them be blessings for others. With the trees of the field, with all earth and heaven, we shout for joy at the coming of your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. AMEN

PRAYER JESUS TAUGHT US

ONE: Gathered into one by the Holy Spirit, let us pray as Jesus taught us,

MANY: Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name,

your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread.
