Tar Heels Face Strong In-State Competition During Midweek
North Carolina plays two of the best teams in the state this week when the Tar Heels host Campbell Tuesday at 6 p.m. before traveling to Wilmington to face UNCW Wednesday at 6 p.m. Carolina won two of three games last week to improve to 24-15, beating High Point and Virginia Tech, while losing a pair of contests to rain. Campbell has lost five in a row, including a sweep by Charleston Southern in Buies Creek, but the Camels still stand at 25-15 overall. The Seahawks are one of the nation’s hottest clubs, winning 10 straight to surge to 28-8 on the year after a conference road sweep of Hofstra over the weekend. Tickets for Tuesday’s contest are available at the Boshamer box office or online at GoHeels.com/tickets.

• Campbell’s most recent win in the series was a 7-5 decision in 11 innings in 2007 at Boshamer Stadium.
• Prior to last season, Carolina’s last win over the Camels came in 2006, a 6-3 victory in Chapel Hill. That was UNC’s ninth straight victory in the series prior to the 2007 loss. North Carolina-UNCW Series History

• The win on April 3 was notable as it was career victory No. 1,200 for Fox.
• Prior to the loss on April 23, Carolina had won 13 in a row against the Seahawks, includ-ing a pair of wins in the 2008 NCAA Cary Regional.

• Carolina split a pair of games last weekend against Virginia Tech. Game three on Sunday was rained out.
• The Tar Heels suffered their first loss to the Hokies since 2007 in Friday’s opener, falling 8-3. RHP Zac Gallen allowed five runs (four earned) over five-plus innings as VT starter Kit Scheetz limited the Tar Heel offense to just three runs over seven.
• UNC rallied to win a wild one on Saturday, 11-10. Carolina scored four times in the first without needing a hit - starter Jon Woodcock walked five and hit one before being replaced after getting just one out. VT rallied to lead 8-6, but Brian Miller’s seventh-inning sac fly scored the winning run.
• 2B Elijah Sutherland doubled his season RBI total with three driven in - two bases-loaded HBPs and a sac fly. He also scored the winning run after leading off the seventh with a double.
• RHP Trent Thornton struck out five over the last 4.1 innings to pick up his second win of the year. He moved within three of the all-time UNC top 10 with his 21st career victory.
• LF Landon Lassiter continues to wear out ACC pitching. The junior had five hits in Blacksburg and currently leads the team with a .342 average in conference play. That mark includes six doubles and a triple, and Lassiter sports a slash line of .342/.463/.447 in ACC action. Williams Continues Midweek Roll
• Freshman LHP Hunter Williams has been dominant for Carolina against midweek competition over the last month.
• In four consecutive wins over Appalachian State, Elon, Liberty and High Point, Williams has allowed just two total runs on 10 hits in 24.0 innings.
• Williams picked up his first career complete game and first shutout Tuesday vs. High Point. The Mosley, Virginia, product allowed three hits and struck out a career-best seven over 6.0 innings before the game was called due to rain and lightning.
• Williams threw just 72 pitches over six innings against, 57 of which were strikes. He only went to two 3-ball counts the entire game and did not walk a batter.
Hovis, Hudak Undergo Season-Ending Surgeries
• Junior RHP Reilly Hovis underwent Tommy John surgery April 14 and will miss the remainder of the 2015 season. The surgery was performed by Dr. James Andrews.
• Hovis, who made just two appearances in 2015, was a first-team All-ACC relief pitcher for Carolina last season. The Gastonia, North Carolina, native won a team-best nine games and saved six as a sophomore in 2014. Hovis struck out 81 batters and walked just 24 in 64.0 innings and finished the year with a 2.25 ERA.
• Freshman 2B Preston Hudak had surgery to repair a torn labrum in his left shoulder on April 15 and will miss the rest of the season. A native of Rock Hill, South Carolina, Hudak appeared in 11 games as a freshman and started two.
Streaking Dunbar Leading The Carolina Offense
• Junior C Korey Dunbar is in the midst of his best offensive stretch as a Tar Heel, and it has come at an important time for Carolina. The Charleston, West Virginia, product has hit in 19 of his last 24 games.
• Dunbar, who had just three home runs and seven doubles in 181 at-bats as a sophomore, currently leads the Tar Heels in doubles (10) and slugging percentage (.504) and is tied for second with four home runs and third with 23 runs scored.

• Perhaps the most remarkable part of Dunbar’s hot streak is that he’s done it while catching all but three innings over the last 21 games. Sophomore Adrian Chacon has been unavailable to catch due to a back ailment, so Dunbar has been forced behind the plate full-time, including both ends of the double-header at Georgia Tech on March 21. • Dunbar has been stingy against opposing baserunners in 2015, throwing out 13 of 35 would-be base stealers (37 percent).
Kelley A Constant During Senior Year • Senior RHP Trevor Kelley has been out-standing in his final season as a Tar Heel. The sidearmer from Wilmington has appeared in an NCAA-high 28 games and has a 2.36 ERA in 49.2 innings. Kelley has 41 strikeouts against 12 walks for the year, and picked up his second save with a scoreless ninth March 20 at Georgia Tech. He came on in relief of J.B. Bukauskas April 11 against NC State and worked 3.2 hitless innings for his third victory of the season.
• Kelley got his first win of the year against Liberty on March 2. Coming on in relief in the third inning, Kelley allowed one hit and one unearned run in 5.1 innings as the Tar Heels won 6-4.
• His second win came March 11 against Gardner-Webb when he was called into emergency duty after starter Brett Daniels was hit by a line drive in the first inning. Kelley went 3.2 hitless innings to get the victory. • Kelley has appeared in 16 of 18 ACC games. He was especially effective against Pitt, working 6.1 innings and allowing just one unearned run on four hits with seven strikeouts and no walks. He picked up his first save of the year with 2.0 scoreless frames in the 3-1 victory on March 14.
Moss Moving Up Career Lists
• After deciding to return to school despite being selected by the San Francisco Giants in the 15th round of the 2014 MLB Draft, senior Benton Moss has begun peppering the Carolina record books.
• The Enfield, North Carolina, senior currently ranks sixth in school history in career win-ning percentage (.828, 24-5).
• With 43 strikeouts in seven starts as a senior, Moss has moved into fourth in school history with 295 career strikeouts. He has eclipsed Robert Woodard (264, 2004-07), Ryan Snare (269, 1998-2000), Mike Bynum (276, 1997-99), Thad Chrismon (279, 1992-95), Kent Emanuel (287, 2011-13) and Michael Hoog (289, 1987-90). Only three Tar Heels have ever recorded 300 career Ks - Andrew Miller (325, 2004-06), Alex White (317, 2007-09) and Patrick Johnson (311, 2008-11).
• Moss also ranks eighth in career innings with 300.1, 6.2 behind Alex White (307.0, 2007-09).
• Moss recently moved into the top 10 in career wins. With his win at Clemson, he moved into a tie for 10th with three Carolina greats. Daniel Bard (2004-06), Roger Williams (1983-85) and Scott Bankhead (1982-84) each had 24 wins at Carolina.
Myers Out With Broken Leg
• Sophomore SS Wood Myers suffered a broken left fibula March 10 at Coastal Carolina and underwent successful surgery this week at UNC Hospitals. The procedure was headed by Dr. Alex Creighton of UNC.
• Myers will begin rehabilitation in the coming weeks and his status will be updated periodi-cally.
• Prior to the injury, Myers was hitting .333 (17 for 51) in 14 games with a double and four RBIs. He is still third on the team with nine walks and did not strike out in 63 plate appear-ances. As a freshman in 2014, Myers was the most difficult batter to strike out in the ACC.

• With Benton Moss scratched and Trent Thornton in the bullpen, Zac Gallen got the Friday start and turned in his best career out-ing. After not making it out of the first against Duke in 2014, Gallen pitched into the eighth and finished with a career-high 12 strikeouts. • Freshman J.B. Bukauskas made his first career ACC start on Saturday and struck out eight in six scoreless innings.
• Freshman Zack Gahagan hit his second career home run in Sun-day’s series finale to cap a strong weekend at the plate and in the field. The Fletcher, North Carolina, first baseman made the play of the game in Saturday’s win when he dove to his right to rob Duke of an RBI hit that left the bases loaded in the seventh. Gahagan tripled and scored in the bottom of the inning.

• Hovis was named to the second team by the NCBWA and the third team by Louisville Slugger/Collegiate Baseball. Hovis had a break-out year in 2014, earning first-team All-ACC honors and leading the Tar Heels in ERA and wins.
• Thornton was named to the Louisville Slugger third team by Col-legiate Baseball. The talent right-hander was a consensus freshman All-America in 2013 and earned second-team All-ACC honors a season ago.
