Ad Volume.

Since August four years

ago, a monthly average of 50 jobs

has been posted online for

emergency medical technicians and

paramedics. The vast majority of

these ads were for EMT’s and

emergency room technicians as

opposed to the very few for

paramedics. Peak demand was in

March 2012, and demand was

weakest in May 2011. During 2011

and 2012 demand increased to

roughly twice that of demand in

2009 and 2010.

NOTE:

The remaining narrative and tables in this report contain the results of a search of online ads for

EMT’s and Emergency Room Technicians over the past three months, from June 13 to September 10,

2013. Job ads for paramedics are not included.

Other titles.

Other than emergency medical technician, the most

commonly advertised job titles were emergency room technician

(65) and patient care associate (54).

Job Location.

The table to the right lists the top locations for advertised

EMT jobs. About 86 percent of advertised jobs listings were in New Jersey.

Of the 14 percent (22 ads) in New York State, 15 were in New York City

(including Bayside). The others were in Long Island and Westchester. Job

developers should consult jobseekers to see if they are willing to take a

commute to New Jersey.

Hiring Difficulty.

Wanted Analytics scores occupations according

to a “hiring scale,” which takes into account the number of

current workers in the occupation, the number of employers

hiring, local unemployment rates, and pay that is offered, among

other factors. According to this scale, emergency medical

technicians are

very easy

for employers to recruit and hire. The

average posting period is 47 days.

Wages.

Of the ads specifying salary ranges, a majority offered between

$39,800 and $48,650 per year.
