Worked as a Registered Nurse and in a variety of health related fields in Australia and USA Involved in the feminist movement in the 1970s particularly within Methodist Church (now the Uniting Church in Australia) with concern for the role of women in the church and use of inclusive language

Worked as Program Director for the YWCA of Adelaide and Sydney. Initiated programs particularly for people of diverse cultural backgrounds. Set up the first government funded emergency accommodation for Youth in Adelaide. Involved in issues relating to refugees, in particular women and children. Establishing member of the Vietnamese Women's Association and the Home Tutor Scheme for people from NESB in Adelaide

Lived in the USA, Thailand and Indonesia. In Thailand became the Chairperson of the National YWCA Refugee Committee. Initiated programs for refugee women and children incarcerated in the Immigration Centre and refugee camps. A representative to the YWCA and World Council of Churches International Peace Team in 1983 looking at issues of refugees and peace in the Middle East

Represented Australia at the first Consultation on Refugee Women in Geneva

Initiated and became founding member of the Australian National Committee on Refugee Women (ANCORW). Developed work-related and training programs for refugee women.
