Respite opportunities for carers and family members.
Community Support Team (5 days per wk Mon-Fri)– specialist advice, guidance, advocacy and 1-1 support for those affected by brain injury (including carers and family members). Engaging with those affected from the traumatic stage of the condition within the hospital environment, supporting understanding of diagnosis and prognosis. Assisting with preparation for discharge from the hospital environment and adjusting to financial, environmental and practical issues when re-integrating within the community. Support to up-skill and re-skill when preparing to return to employment, volunteering or educational opportunities.

3 days per week, 9 service users per session (Burcot, nr Abingdon) Day Centre for people with a physical disability based in John Masefield Day Centre Burcot less than 6 miles from Abingdon. The one storey building is situated in the peaceful grounds of Leonard Cheshire Care Home and is surrounded by picturesque gardens. It offers a wide range of activities such as quizzes, boccia bowls, reminiscence sessions, art & crafts, trips and entertainment. The service supports prevention, enablement and independence to adults with a physical disability who are residents in South Oxfordshire, Vale of White Horse and East Oxford area.

Hook Norton Day Centre
1 day per week, 16 per session (Hook Norton). The Hook Norton Day Centre is open to local elderly people and operates every Monday (except public holidays) from 1000hrs – 1500hrs in the Hook Norton Baptist Church Hall. Members either walk or are transported by their families or volunteer drivers to the Hall, where they are given a welcoming cup of tea/coffee and biscuits. After a morning of conversation with other members and volunteers, a freshly prepared lunch is served. During the afternoon there is always some form of entertainment – a singalong, bingo, games and films provided by Age Concern in Banbury, an illustrated talk and sometimes a visit by a representative of the Oxfordshire Museum who brings interesting artefacts for discussion. Local musicians sometimes provide music for the members and children from the Hook Norton school visit us and entertain us with music or drama. Twice a year there is an outing – in the summer for lunch at a local beauty spot or garden centre and at Christmastime, a festive lunch at a nearby restaurant. The members are also invited to attend the annual Christmas production at the school. Before returning to their homes, the members are given tea/coffee and cake.

Oxfordshire Chinese Community Day Centre
1 day per week, 30 places (Cowley). This is a Busy Day centre with a good variety of activities for non- english speaking chinese community residents,. the activities includes chinese games, health videos, reading and discussion, and cookery lessons. 6 sessions are carried out in alternative venues in the form of a lunch club. There are approx. 9 volunteers per session.

Chalgrove Day Centre
2 days per week, 40 per session on a Tuesday in the village hall and 10 places on Fridays at the Acreage sheltered housing (Chalgrove). Well organised and well attended, excellent activities (eg talk, entertainment, shopping trips, seaside) and a hot meal provided. The organisers also run a drop-in on Thursdays and a computer club with IT training.

The Village Hall provides the perfect setting enabling clients to do a wide variety of activities that are planned each week. Sharecare is a place where you can be yourself and feel at home, whatever your needs. This club is dedicated to the needs of older people with dementia and other mental health needs. Refreshments are provided along with a nourishing home-cooked hot lunch. Watlington & District Drop in Centre
Open daily Monday-Friday,9.15-12.30pm with the occasional Saturday (Watlington) . Drop in centre manned volunteers daily, the club is for older people who live locally and are able to walk to the centre. There is a hairdresser and Chiropodist certain days of the month and each week service users are able to access advice on the area, surgeries and change / order Hearing aid batteries, this service also allows for limited repairs. There is a Scrabble Club every Wednesday afternoon in addition to the drop-in being open in the morning.
