Skylogic solves the last mile problem for thousands of businesses and public administrations around the globe, by offering universal broadband solutions based on its two-way satellite technology.

Skylogic’s main mission is supplying broadband Internet access to businesses, ISPs, and public institutions located beyond range of terrestrial broadband networks. Using new-generation satellite broadband technology Skylogic is also now equipped to deliver consumers located beyond terrestrial broadband with a cost-effective route to broadband services

Skylogic can also deliver a broad portfolio of ad-hoc broadcast solutions from its SkyPark teleport located in Turin, Italy.

The company is a subsidiary of Eutelsat, one of the world’s leading satellite operators that supplies capacity on 23 satellites with coverage across Europe, Africa, the Middle East and large parts of Asia as well as connectivity to North and South America.

Skylogic can distribute both DVB-S and MPEG-2/4 signals for video contribution, Direct-to-Home (DTH) broadcasting and delivery to cable headends. Skylogic supports broadcasters with a team ensuring service quality 24/7 and delivering coverage for ground-breaking news or part time contribution links.

Skylogic allows broadcasters to transmit HDTV signals which offer an increased image resolution by incrementing the number of scan lines and the number of pixels per each line.

Broadband solutions

High speed Internet access on shared bandwidth using 2-way modems which can be connected to a business LAN to serve a small terminal network.

Different levels of subscription are available depending on capacity needs and number of PC’s connected.

Skylogic offers affordable, high-quality consumer broadband satellite solutions across markets in Europe not served by terrestrial networks. Its service is based on the ViaSat SurfBeam® DOCSIS® two-way broadband satellite

system, a highly scaleable open standards-based platform that lowers the cost of consumer terminals and service.

Fully-customised and dedicated bandwidth to serve enterprise sites or to create Virtual Private Networks (VPN). Satellite broadcasting capacity allows users to multicast content to several terminals simultaneously, thus radically reducing transmission costs.

Skylogic provides a wide range of network solutions designed for enterprises and public administration needs, including Single Channel Per Carrier transmissions (SCPC), trunking technology and solutions for meshed configurations.

The small satellite terminal ensures rapid activation and guaranteed end-to-end service quality. This is why it is the perfect solution for supplying communications and video surveillance in extreme and high-risk situations.

Skylogic technology provides on-board services for trains, planes and ships. Passengers can access e-mail, the Internet, Voice over IP (VOIP), Fax over IP (FOIP) and corporate intranets by connecting PCs through Wi-Fi hot spots.

Skylogic provides a satellite-based communications network on luxury cruise-ferries operated by Grandi Navi Veloci, a leading company in passenger and goods transport throughout the Mediterranean. The network extends broadband services and the GSM network to passengers and crew at sea. Passengers can access the Internet through a Wi-Fi network and VOIP from cabins and a public phone facility.

WITAR, a voluntary organisation that supports technology education, activated a permanent satellite broadband network through Eutelsat W3A satellite and SkyPark. The link connects a technical school in Ngozi (Burundi) and the technical institute in Vicenza (Italy) for an innovative e-learning programme.

Skylogic provided Elettromeccanica Adriatica with a satellite communications system monitoring 10 remote sites, which include hydroelectric stations and intake structures that carry water to the stations.

Remote surveillance applications combined with a satellite network make it possible to oversee all remote sites simultaneously, irrespective of their location, reducing costs and increasing efficiency.

TV applications for broadcasters and Business TV

During the XX Olympic Winter Games of Torino 2006, Skylogic deployed and operated a comprehensive TV network for the Olympic community with satellite delivery of 50 encrypted channels to more than 12,000 screens. In addition to this dedicated television network, Eutelsat and Skylogic provided broadcasters with services and facilities in order to deliver television coverage around the world.

Markets

Satellite services can meet multiple requirements from the business community including rapid connectivity to remote offices and support for day-to-day communication activities such as broadband access, video/data exchange, video conferencing.

Skylogic, in cooperation with Colt Telecom, has integrated sales control management to enable data transmission from Basic.netís 35 retail outlets throughout Italy to sales management offices. This allows real-time monitoring of purchasing trends in all outlets as well as monitoring of warehouse movements. Satellite transmission also facilitates additional services, including video transmission in a television circuit for Basic.net outlets, multicasting, IP streaming of audio and video signals, advertising management and Internet kiosks.

Skylogic has been awarded contracts by the Regions of Tuscany and Piedmont (Italy) and the Diputacion Provincial de Zaragoza in southern Spain to bring full broadband amenities to 90 and 120 locations of Tuscany and Piedmont respectively and to 110 communities in the region of Zaragoza.

Selected by the Regional Fire and Relief Services (SDIS) in the south of France, REDSAT is a turnkey service developed by Skylogic and Satxpro that enables a complete communications network to be deployed in 20 minutes for connections between regional firefighter central command and relief locations.

With satellite technology, Public Administrations can extend broadband services to citizens and enterprises, independently of terrestrial infrastructure. Using a combination of satellite broadband and other technologies such as Wi-Fi, PLC, it is possible to obtain universal coverage for distribution at a local level of high-speed Internet services as well as other innovative broadband services.

Skylogic terminals are highly flexible and easy to install. This is why they are the perfect solution for supplying communications and video surveillance in extreme and high-risk situations.

From yachts to cruise ships, merchant and military vessels, trains and business jets, Skylogic can supply on-board Internet connectivity. Passengers on aircrafts, ships and trains can access services through their laptops via a Wi-Fi hot spot.

Skylogic and ViaSat provide in-flight communications to business jets flying over Europe. The service has already been selected by ARINC, a world leader in aviation communications, which supplies passengers in over 40 business jets flying over European airspace with in-flight communications.

By operating with open standards-based platforms, Skylogic has developed low cost terminals allowing competitively-priced two-way satellite access to the Internet.
