Personalized Keyword Research Analysis
Niche: Web Design
The purpose of this report is to filter through your master keyword list and identify some of the most profitable niches and keyword groups. Below you will find my recommendations for the keywords with most profit potential, along with a few extra thoughts here and there. First up...
A Quick Tutorial.
DA refers to domain age...If the competition's DA is low, the better chance you have of ranking high. PR refers to Google's Page Rank...If the competition's PR is low, you have a chance of ranking high. BLP refers to the number of backlinks pointing to that particular page...a very important factor. BLD refers to the number of backlinks pointing to the domain itself....not as much, but still important.
The above information refers to “off-page” SEO, and offers a clear sense of what steps it would take to outrank your competition. For example, with everything else being equal, if your top competition has 22 backlinks, then you need 23 to achieve number 1.
Title answers the question whether or not the webpage title tag contains the keyword. URL answers the question whether or not the webpage URL contains the keyword.
Desc answers the question whether or not the keyword appears in the meta description tag.
Head answers the question whether or not the keyword appears in header tags within page content. The above information refers to “on-page” SEO. Having your keyword appear in the title of your site, the actual URL, and both the description and header tags of your site will help you achieve higher rankings. If you see a lot of N's, then you know you have a good chance of ranking higher than your competition by capitalizing on their lack of “on-page” SEO.
Let's begin!
Note: The first column contains your keyword, the second column contains the number of monthly searches, and the third contains the number of competing pages.
We'll begin our research with a very interesting phrase for at least two reasons. First it is highly relevant to your target market in that people are searching for “web design services pricing”. In an otherwise highly competitive niche, these kinds of keywords present you a great first page ranking opportunity.
Secondly, there is a very nice search to competition ratio with 70 monthly searches (Exact Match, which is important) and only a handful of competing sites. Let's take a look at some important SEO data to determine the actual strength or weakness of this keyword phrase.
Above is a graph outlining the currently ranking top websites for the keyword phrase “web design services pricing”. The first two columns, DA (Domain Age) and PR (Page Rank) are important for overall SEO health, but not essential in garnering first page Google ranking. In any case, the lower these numbers the better. The PR column is especially weak which is a good first sign for you.
The first column of real interest is the BLP column referring to the number of backlinks to the page. Sites #2 and #10 have a high amount of backlinks, but serve as no real threat to your first page ranking potential when you consider the many lower numbers throughout. Site #1 for instance, and others, actually rank first page with no backlinks at all. These lower numbers are a great sign for you and indicate ranking first page to be very possible indeed.
Next it will be important to notice the on-page SEO as seen in the last 4 columns to the far right. Often times this will be as or more important than sheer backlink numbers alone. By simply including your target keyword in the Title, Description, URL and Header Tags whenever possible you will boost your ranking potential tremendously.
As much as I like the above keywords, there are several others to consider as well. And as similar as this next example is, it a completely unique source of traffic and therefore a phrase to strongly consider...
The difference here is that 1) instead of focusing on “web design services” the searches are for a “user experience designer”, and 2) instead of for “pricing” it's for a “portfolio”. As you've already noticed, this is a highly competitive niche so focusing on “pricing” or “portfolio” or similar type keywords it present a great opportunity for you to rank for high buying keywords. For instance, someone searching for a “pricing” list is considering making a purchase. Rank and they will be considering yours. Likewise, someone searching for a “portfolio” is looking for options. Rank and they will be considering you. Let's review the SEO data for this phrase below...
Site #7 has only 12 backlinks, and numerous others even less with site #3 having none at all. The on-page SEO is also very weak for this keyword phrase making it one to highly consider. In contrast, consider this keyword...
The search volume is lower, but the competition is actually higher as you'll see below. My intention in sharing this keyword with you is just to give you an idea of who some of your actual competitors are. Visit these websites, learn from them, and keep them in mind as you're focusing on other keywords as you too will soon be ranking along side these...
Now, it is important to include your target keyword in your content whenever possible, and in the appropriate locations. You have been provided a keyword list totaling several dozen different phrases. Obviously you don't want to include every keyword on every page. Instead, focus on one or two main phrases per page, and build upon that. The ones I highlight in this report are the ones I would recommend focusing on first, but of course, review your list of keywords for even more ideas and do what works best for you.
Moving on, consider this keyword phrase...
Additionally, notice this keyword...
And the SEO data just below...
In both cases the BLP numbers are strong in only a few cases with numerous sites having low counts and thus leaving the door for first page ranking open for you. Also, the on-page SEO is weak, which a mentioned above, is actually often just as or more important than sheer backlink numbers alone. By building a few quality backlinks and maintaining proper on-page SEO you will stand a great chance at ranking for this keywords. Targeting these are highly recommended and will give you the best chance at first page ranking in this highly competitive niche. As you begin to rank for more and more of these keywords, you will also begin to rank for higher competitive keywords as well, but these would be my first focus.
Here are some practical steps (and some SEO advice) to see your site begin ranking for any of these keywords mentioned. We'll use the key phrase “cheap website design companies” as an example, but this advice still stands for any other keyword of interest...
(1) Include the keyword in the Title, Description, and URL whenever possible. If this is not feasible for your current domain, create simple content such as articles or landing pages that link back to your main site. For example, write an article “Cheap Website Design Companies: 7 Things You Need To Know” and have that article link back to your main site. This not only allows you to potentially rank for this keyword based on your on-page optimization, it builds backlinks to your main site.
(2) In regards to building backlinks, an essential element is building “targeted backlinks”. There are many factors at play when it comes to climbing the search engine rankings, but targeted backlinks are a big piece of the picture. What then are “targeted”
backlinks?
When you link to your site it could link like this …

Or it could look like this...
Totally irrelevant words that just happen to be hyperlinked such as "Click Here"
But a targeted backlink for the above keyword would like like this...See the difference?
Cheap Website Design Companies
By using your target keyword phrase as the “anchor text”, Google will naturally associate your site with this phrase, and assign it prominence in the search engines. This “double punch” of targeted backlinks and proper on-page SEO will give you great ranking potential.
