Dawson College Accounting and Management Technology

The two Business Administration programs at Dawson College follow the same course of study in the first year to give you a solid business foundation in the fundamentals of accounting and marketing.

P R O G R A M i n f O R M AT i O n

Accounting and Management Technology is a three-year career program that places particular emphasis on applied business methods and computerized applications. This approach will help you to think critically, to develop skills in analysis and to use computers to process and analyze financial and business information effectively. You will acquire the tools and knowledge to deal with the challenges of business and to succeed in today’s competitive and dynamic environment. In Term 6, an internship (stage) will allow you to demon-strate the skills you have acquired in your studies in an actual work setting.

O b j ec T i v e s O f T h e P R O G R A M

The Accounting and Management Technology program emphasizes studies in accounting, finance, management, computer applications.

Upon the successful completion of the Accounting and Management Technology program, graduates will be able to: • use problem-solving and critical-thinking skills to

select, analyze and interpret information • use computers and appropriate business

software applications to respond to informational and analytical requirements

• analyze financial and managerial accounting informa-tion in a computerized setting

• conduct financial analysis of investments and finance-related projects

• contribute to business methods and management decision-making

T h e W O R k- s T u dy O P T i O n

Students in the Accounting & Management Technology program have the opportunity to complete their program in six terms or choose the Work-Study profile which allows them to have two paid work sessions. The Business Administration programs at Dawson have privileged relationships with large federal and provincial governmental agencies, small and medium-sized enterprises as well as with large multinational corporations.

The Work-Study profile offers several advantages to students including:

• Acquisition of extensive, relevant and practical business experiences;

• Application of the acquired knowledge and skills in a real business setting;

• Identification of professional strengths;

• Acquisition of important skills such as communica-tions, team work, cooperation, and interpersonal skills essential to today’s work environment; • Financial incentives given that the Work-Study

program offers students the opportunity to earn an income during their studies.

In the accounting/finance and management fields, technicians assist management with decision-making.

In the area of accounting, graduates may be involved in the initial stages of the accounting cycle and may provide technical support for accounting tasks including the implementation of accounting systems, internal controls, budget planning and estimates of manufacturing costs. Measurement of liabilities and taxation is also an area where technicians can make a contribution.

In the area of finance, graduates support the management of working capital funds, treasury, financial analysis, and the evaluation of investments and their return. In management practice, they support the management of the human, financial and material resources of a company.

Dawson College is located in downtown Montreal in a historic building on 12 acres of green space. The first English-language institution in the Quebec CEGEP network is today one of the largest with approximately 10,000 students enrolled in more than 50 programs and profiles of study. The College occupies an entire city block and is linked directly to the Atwater Métro station.

Tuition is free for Canadian citizens or landed immigrants with permanent residence in Quebec taking at least four courses per semester. A non-refundable $30 application fee and about $200 in student fees are charged. Books and supplies cost between $500 and $1,000 per year, although visual arts supplies are more costly.
