2020 Improvement Focus – Writing, Differentiation & Instruction and Community & Culture

Hello Everyone,

We have had a very busy couple of weeks! Firstly we had our school investiture parade. It was so lovely to see a lot of parents in attendence for this special day. A huge thank you to Mr Stephen Andrews MP for attending our event, speaking about leadership and helping with the induction of our students. Our 2021 School Captain team is – School Captains –

Jewelery and Toys

Please ensure that all jewellery including dangling earrings, bracelets and necklaces are not worn to school as these can get caught on playground equipment and are generally a distraction in the classroom. No toys should be brought to school. There is plenty of equipment for students to share We can not guarantee that toys and jewellery will get lost, stolen or broken so it is best that it doesn’t come to school.

YEAR 2/3/4

The Year 2/3/4 class has had a busy start to Term 1. The students have already created some amazing work and have enjoyed decorating the classroom with posters about themselves.

In English this term, we have been learning about persuasive writing. The students have created many compelling arguments about different topics and have shown they clearly understand how to use persuasive techniques to persuade their teacher. I hope they haven’t been using too many of these at home to get out of their homework!

This term in Science, we are learning about living and non-living things and how to group them based on observable features. The children have all enjoyed learning new and interesting facts about different animals.

Important Dates:

8 March – International Women’s Day 12th March – Free Dress- Bring an Easter Egg

18th March- Book Club due

19 March – National Day of Action for Bullying (wear orange)

24 March – Arts Council

26 March – Epilepsy Day (wear purple) 25 March – P&C AGM & General Meeting 1 April – Last day of Term 1

Breakfast Club

Thank you so much to Miss Danae and Chappy Del for organising Breakfast Club again this year - their merry helpers enjoyed preparing and serving breakfast last Wednesday morning. We need your help! We are asking for donations of bread and fruit weekly or gift vouchers for the IGA or Woolworths. Alternatively, any loose change would be greatly appreciated. Our Breakfast Club is such an important program, not only is it giving our students much needed sustenance to ensure they’re ‘ready to learn’, it also gives Chappy Del and Ms Danae a chance to teach life skills such as chopping, food handling and washing up skills to our older students. Thank you both for your commitment to this program enjoyed by all (I may have snuck a piece of cream cheese toast last week). 😊

Student Investiture

Get involved in the School Banking program.

Swayneville State School is excited to offer the Commonwealth Bank School Banking program to all students. School Banking is a fun, interactive and engaging way to help teach your child about money. Children who deposit money into their Youthsaver account through School Banking earn Dollarmites tokens, which they can save up and redeem for exciting rewards. The rewards available during 2021 are:

o Terry Denton’s Activity Book o Scented Stackable Highlighters o Mini Soccer Ball (size 2) o Icicle Slapband Ruler

o Treetop Stationery Set o Snowy Origami Set

o Treetop Handball o Water Skimming Bounce Ball

o Tomato Seed Kit o Polar Pencils & Pencil Toppers

o Emoji Wallet o Scratch Art Cards

o Snakes & Ladders Game

School Banking is also a great fundraiser for our school. Our school receives a Regular Savers Contribution of $5 for every 10 deposits processed per student as well as an Annual Contribution which is based on the number of students who made at least one School Banking deposit in the prior year. For more information about contribution payments, visit www.commbank.com.au/sbinfo .

Getting involved in School Banking is easy!

All you need to get involved in the School Banking program is a Commonwealth Bank Youthsaver account. You can open an account for your child in one of two ways:

1. Online

Visit www.commbank.com.au/schoolbanking and click on the link to open a Youthsaver account. 2. In branch

Visit a Commonwealth Bank branch with identification for yourself and your child, like a driver’s licence and birth certificate.

If your child has an existing Commonwealth Bank Youthsaver account they can start banking straight away. They just need to bring their deposit in every week on School Banking day using their Dollarmites deposit wallet.

School Banking day is Tuesday. Each week you need to hand your deposit book and money into the school office by 9.00am for processing. If you would like to know more about School Banking, please ask for a 2021 School Banking program parent guide from the school office or visit www.commbank.com.au/schoolbanking
