*Traffic prioritisation is applied automatically at the local exchange. At peak times, customer’s with Network and SOHO 16 services are likely to experience less performance degredation because it is considered a higher priority than Network Max, which in turn is a higher priority than SOHO Max or Home Worker services.

**Assured rate provides guaranteed capacity upstream and downstream where the customer’s service is capable of achieving that performance based on physical limitations of distance and copper path quality.

Ethernet First Mile (EFM)

Ethernet First Mile (EFM) technology is an advanced form of broadband service that provides up to 10Mbps symmetrical uncontended access using ubiquitous copper circuits. For companies looking for high quality upstream capacity to support e-mail, head office VPN termination or hosted applications, EFM can overcome the upstream limitations of ADSL or SDSL, without costing as much as a

dedicated fibre-based Ethernet service. With shorter lead times than fibre leased-lines, but with more resilience than a standard broadband line, EFM fills a much-needed gap between the two types of access.

EFM is also useful for those sites where higher capacity access is required, but fibre would cost too much to install. Opal’s EFM service is delivered on between two and eight dedicated copper circuits (included in the price) depending on distance, copper quality and bandwidth requirements and comes with a next business day fix guarantee and a target availability of 99.9%.

Feature

ƒ Copper-based access technology

ƒ Multiple copper pairs

ƒ Symmetrical

Advantage

ƒ Lower costs and shorter lead times than fibre. May be available where fibre is not possible. Alternative media to fibre providing superior separation where EFM is deployed as a back up to a fibre-based system.

ƒ Opal has decided to deploy a minimum of two pairs to each EFM connectivity system. This protects the customer from loss of connectivity due to failure of one of the pairs alone. Higher uptime characteristics. More reliable than standard ADSL, ADSL2+ and SDSL services.

ƒ Access to enhanced upstream capacity. Most cost-effective and technologically robust* method of delivering 3Mbps-10Mbps upstream.

(11)

ƒ Uncontended

ƒ Ethernet presentation

ƒ Certainty of access performance. Service performance is not affected by other people using the same exchange.

ƒ Simplifies edge CPE choices. No need for expensive ADSL modules, microfilters or interface cards. Can be plugged straight into a firewall or other Ethernet device (Internet-facing service only).

Leased lines: NetConnect (internet access) and NetLink (site-to-site)

By using Opal’s leased line services you are assured of clear bandwidth, low jitter and error free transmission with high availability. Opal can connect you to networks that span the UK, whilst delivering the highest quality of transmission demanded by today’s organisations for mission critical and latency sensitive applications.

Features

ƒ UK wide availability

ƒ 24x7x365 network monitoring at our Network Operations Center (NOC)

ƒ Unrestricted bandwidth – 100% unmetred access

Benefits

ƒ Uncontended bandwidth – you do not share the line with any other users

ƒ Ideal for corporate internet link, VoIP, VPNs and server hosting

ƒ Dedicated leased line backed by an SLA (24/7, 4 hour response, 5 hour clear)

ƒ Highly secure private connection

Ethernet: NetConnect E (internet access) and NetLink E (site-to-site)

Ethernet services from Opal deliver high performance national connectivity. You choose the bandwidth you need now, this can then can be easily upgraded to meet emerging demands.

Opal’s Ethernet services provide high speed data delivery and an opportunity to extend your LANs between offices, to remote workers, business sites or for internet connectivity. A reliable and cost effective method to deliver secure communications between customer sites with a “NetLink E” (Point-to-Point Ethernet), or to deliver secure internet connectivity with a “NetConnect E” into Opal’s network of POPs (Points of Presence).

Features

ƒ Symmetric high performance available in 10Mbps, 100Mbps and 1Gbps

ƒ Fixed cost / cost effective

ƒ Zero contention

ƒ Service Level Agreement with guarantees

Benefits

ƒ Network monitoring 24x7x365

ƒ Service level guarantee for bandwidth supplied

ƒ Presents on Ethernet

ƒ Wires only – no hardware

ƒ Fast circuit bandwidth upgrades

ƒ Supports VOIP, video traffic and data traffic

ƒ Capacity to cope with future growth in network traffic

NetConnect and NetLink pricing is bespoke and based on distance from customers’ site to our nearest PoP.

1. If the circuit is site-to-site (NetLink), both addresses including postcodes are needed. If the circuit is internet facing (NetConnect), only the end user’s full address including postcode is required.

2. Speed of circuit required and enabled bandwidth i.e. 100Mbps Bearer with 20Mbps enabled. All prices are subject to site survey and capacity check if required. All lead times are indicative. All quotations are valid for a maximum of 30 days and subject to our standard terms and conditions which are available on our website www.opal-solutions.com/legal
