Ethernet First Mile (EFM)
Ethernet First Mile (EFM) technology is an advanced form of broadband service that provides up to 10Mbps symmetrical uncontended access using ubiquitous copper circuits. For companies looking for high quality upstream capacity to support e-mail, head office VPN termination or hosted applications, EFM can overcome the upstream limitations of ADSL or SDSL, without costing as much as a
dedicated fibre-based Ethernet service. With shorter lead times than fibre leased-lines, but with more resilience than a standard broadband line, EFM fills a much-needed gap between the two types of access.
EFM is also useful for those sites where higher capacity access is required, but fibre would cost too much to install. Opal’s EFM service is delivered on between two and eight dedicated copper circuits (included in the price) depending on distance, copper quality and bandwidth requirements and comes with a next business day fix guarantee and a target availability of 99.9%.

Per rack co-location:
All rack products include: 1 full rack with a maximum power draw 14Amps (fused at 16Amps); lockable rack doors and on-site ‘hands and eyes’ for basic tasks, such as rebooting servers and re-patching cables. Bandwidth not included.
There are two options only:
Standard rack:
One 14Amp power feed (fused at 16Amps) with a maximum power draw of 14Amps 1 standard power strip (with up to 15 usable power sockets)
High Availability rack:
Resilient (separate power feed on different UPS) pair of 14Amp (fused at 16Amps) power feeds in hot standby mode with a maximum power draw of 14Amps at any time.
Resilient pair of APC power strips, each with 15 usable power sockets, in fail-over mode, providing remote power management capability:
o Graphical user interface.
o Per device remote reboots.
o Monitor power draw per device.
KVM (Keyboard Video Mouse) switch offering remote control access to local console:
o Graphical user interface.
o Access to up to 16 servers.
o BIOS level remote control and management of servers.
o Access to servers even when disconnected from the network (i.e. if a cable is out).
Connectivity (IP transit bandwidth) for racks is purchased separately. High Availability racks include a resilient fail-over connection to a separate switch.
Tape swap services are available in High Wycombe, Newbury and Birmingham data centres only.
Per item co-location
All charges are per item. Server co-location charge comprises: 1 throttled 2Mbps port per customer regardless of number of servers, 1 x 2 Amp power supply, server reboots on request. Access to system during normal office hours. Includes SMS monitoring with alert provided to customer mobile telephone number.
Non-server item co-location
E.g. Firewall, switch provided by customer. Includes 1 Amp power supply.
Additional network port
For resilience. (Note: This does not include additional bandwidth provision, which is charged separately).
Additional power (per Amp)
Charged for servers requiring more than standard 2 amp allocation.
Second power socket
