The Practical Nursing program prepares students for employment as an entry-level practical nurse.

5. How does the purpose of the program support the overall mission/purpose of the College as adopted by the Board of Trustees? (Mention College goals that show a linkage to your program. Mission and Institutional Goals can be found on CHIEF.)

The college is dedicated to serving the educational needs of the district's residents. Both the college and the program's main purpsoe is to provide comprehensive educational opportunities of the highest quality through vocational-technical programs in order to meet the local needs at a low cost to students. This program supports the institutional goals of instructional services, student support and growth.

Advisory committee members assist with interviews twice a year to select program entrants. Program director will continue to consult with advisory members for future suggestions for program improvement.

20. Is there evidence that competencies being taught in this program are the competencies needed to perform in the workforce or at a higher level of education?

NCLEX pass rates. The competancies are developed under the guidance of the MS State Board of Community and Junior Colleges (SBCJC). Quarterly meetings of state directors of the LPN program

documented with data such as information on number of customers served, program/unit’s performance, staff credentials or other factors that contribute to the success of the unit.)

All staff maintain proper credentials. State Board pass rates are above 90%. 27. What are the weaknesses of the program? (Any problems that the program/unit

may have encountered in the past are appropriate for this section.) The program is in pretty good shape. No major weaknesses at this time, althought the program will consider adding additional survey items to better assess employer and graduate experience post-graduation.

28. What opportunities are available for the program/unit? (Any opportunities for improving the program should be included in this section.)

The program is ripe for growth and an increase in enrollment.

29. What are the threats or difficulties that the program/unit must overcome in the next five years? What is your plan for addressing these threats or difficulties? (If there are changes in the near future that are foreseen as negatively affecting this unit/program, these should be mentioned.) Space availability is a major challenge which should benefit from the opening of a new Health Science Education Center building in 2012.

31. Provide an overview of significant results, honors, awards, and milestones achieved, as well as enhancements made to this program in the past five years. The program was relocated to Fulton so that both nursing programs would be housed on the same campus to better leverage sharing of instuctional space and supplies. Mrs. Pearson and Mrs. Robbins both recently completed masters degrees. Students have received awards at the annual MS LPN convention in the areas of essay, gather your supplies, and career quest competitions Students have received an Outstanding Achievement for Community Service at the Platinum level from the MS Federation of LPN for activities supporting the local Habitat for Humanity.

The program requirements change was a result of input from state directors meetings and should improve the success of the students who are admitted to the selective admission program.
