A WINTER CORNER ON THE RANGE
Leucojum sp.
The Snowflake is a WINTER FLOWERING bulb which normally has more than one flower per stem.
Snowflake petals are even, each with a green spots on the end.
Snowflakes can be self seeding and have a very wide ranging natural habitat.
Recently appeared in Judy Berlak’s garden.
What a treasure!
Goodenia ovata—prostrate form
This is a very tough ground cover that features buttercup yellow flowers over an extended period in spring, summer and into winter. Leaves are bright green. Australian native.
It is great for spilling over walls or as a border or rockery plant that can spread over a reasonable area. Give it a light trim at the end of flowering to tidy it up.
This species is growing in Helen Stewart’s garden.
There is an upright form.
It is growing in another Mapleton garden very successfully.

RECYCLING IN MAPLETON
SPECTACLES ARE COLLECTED AT THE MAPLETON COMMUNITY LIBRARY.
The Mapleton Bowls Club is collecting bottles and cans with the refunds going to sponsor an event at the Club. There is a convenient collection point which is a wheelie bin placed at the foot of the entry stairs. This bin can be distinguished from others as it has a round hole in its roof where you can pop-in the recycle items.
QLD container refund scheme in the school car park. All proceeds go to the Mapleton State School P & C. All your donations would be gratefully received and will go towards resources for our school and students.
Mapleton Men’s Shed is also a receiving depot for recycling cans and bottles. These may be left in the sulo bins in front of the storage shed in Mapleton Forest Drive.

WALKING FOR YOUR HEALTH
Find your 30
All adults aged 18-64 years should aim for 150 minutes of moderate physical activity each week. That’s 30 minutes on five days of the week. It’s considered ‘moderate’ if it takes some effort, but you’re still able to talk comfortably.
Or start with 10
If you can’t find time for a 30-minute walk, try breaking your 30 minutes of walking into three 10-minute sessions on each of 5 days, is just as beneficial as doing the 30 minutes in one go!
If you're already finding your 30, you should consider picking up the pace, as people who are already active will benefit even more by exercising harder and longer.
For more health benefits, do 300 minutes of moderate activity each week, or 150 minutes of vigorous exercise. ‘Vigorous’
exercise means it requires more effort and makes you breathe harder and faster, for example, jogging where it becomes difficult to hold a conversation.
Some activity is always better than none.
