Welcome to Ingawanis Adventure Base!

This summer is going to be one for the books and we are thrilled to share all the new and exciting additions to our Summer Camp program! Whether this is your first summer or you have been coming to camp for years, you will not want to miss this unforgettable experience. We hope to see these new activities become staples at Ingawanis Adventure Base.

You have asked and we have answered. This summer we have looked at all aspects of our program including daily programs, staff, camp culture, food and the spirit of camp. We have heard your requests and have taken action to ensure we not only meet but exceed your expectations!

In this Program Guide, we will be covering all the ins and outs of what to expect during your week(s) at camp. From new activities to the daily schedule, we will cover

everything you need to know about our program. On the next page, you will find a

“Table of Contents” that will show you where to start your journey in this guide. If you or your camper is attending a Cub Scout Resident Week you will only need to review the section regarding Cub Scout Resident Week and the section specific to your week at camp. Keep in mind that this Program Guide covers Lions, Cub Scout, Webelos and Scouts BSA Weeks.

Now flip to the next page and get reading! We can’t wait to see you this summer.

New Activities Coming This Summer!

All Camp Dance & Pool Party

We are bringing back our Pool Party and kicking it up a notch!!

Not only will we be having our Saturday Pool Party, but we are making it bigger and better by introducing the Saturday Night Dance! This event consists of a pool party, pool belly flop contest, open trading post, and a dance! Campers are welcome to take a dip in the pool or dance the evening away while enjoying their favorite pop!

The Official IAB Cubmaster Belly Flop Contest

All adult leaders are welcome to compete and sacrifice their bellies for the amusement of their Scouts. The winner will receive an autographed prize from the aquatics staff, bragging rights, and the pride of making the biggest splash,

loudest smack, and most stylish belly flop on this side of the Cedar River.

Participants are encouraged – but not required – to prepare something “stylish” to spice up their belly flop! (Costume ideas:

Buzz Lightyear, Jedi Knights, and Roman Emperors, or something to fit the week’s theme, just to name a few) Dance Party

Along with our Pool Party, for those who may not want to get their feet wet… Music, trading post, dancing and socializing will be happening on the Parade Field or in the Dining Hall (COVID/weather permitting). The Trading Post will also be open during the dance to get those last-minute snacks and merchandise!

Chapel

Morning Chapel will be provided at Chapel by the Ingawanis Adventure Base Chapel Team on Friday and Saturday morning (7:30-7:45) before flags. This is a great way to start your day with some inspiration and motivation to do your best! This is not a required event, but IAB and the Winnebago Council invite all individuals of faith to participate in this calibration of reverence.

Stage Night

Put on a show, no talent required! Stage Night is our version of an all camp talent show.

Campers are welcomed and encouraged to sign up and perform their favorite talent.

This could be singing their favorite song, telling jokes, dancing, solving a Rubik’s Cube in under a minute or anything in between. All performances should be Camp

Appropriate and follow the BSA rules and guidelines. Campers that are not preforming an act in the show will get the opportunity to support their fellow scouts by cheering them on and getting a once in a lifetime show! Signups will open in the Dining Hall on Thursday at dinner and will close Friday after lunch.

Your Camp Staff can sit with your unit at meals, evening programs and campfires. They will be there to answer questions, offer service throughout the week and be the unit’s hype leader to ensure your Scouts get an unforgettable experience during their week at Ingawanis Adventure Base.

Open Program Time

Open Program time will allow all Cub Scouts to explore everything Ingawanis Adventure Base has to offer. This means all program areas will be open for Scouts to explore and visit.

Staff Sponsor NEW*

Our Ingawanis staff do a lot to help make camp possible, and we want to help make sure they look sharp and feel prepared to provide a strong program to every scout that comes to camp this summer. Looking professional is just the beginning! If you are interested in sponsoring the Ingawanis Camp Staff T-Shirts for the summer, please contact Whitney Jensen or Melanie Mellinger at the Scout Office for more information.

Closing Campfire

The closing campfire relies on the performances of the Scouts and Cubmasters in each Pack. Packs should plan on coming to camp prepared with one song or skit for the closing campfire. Add to the Scouting spirit in camp, plan and practice at your Pack meetings before camp or ask your Camp Staff for help during the week. Once the unit performances have concluded, the Ingawanis Camp Staff will finish off the evening with a special ceremony on friendship.

Provisional Campers

A Provisional Scout is a Scout who wants to attend camp a different week from when their Pack comes, or Scouts who want to attend Ingawanis when their Pack may have chosen to attend a different summer camp. This is also a great opportunity for campers who may want to spend more than one week at camp! On arrival at camp, Provisional Campers will be joined with other Provisional Campers and given an

Ingawanis Adventure Base Camp Staff that will be supervising and staying with the group of

campers throughout the week. As for daily schedules and operations, Provisional Campers will get the exact same experience as Scouts attending with a Pack. The only difference is that Provisional Campers will be meeting a new group of friends and the Camp Staff will take the place of the Cubmaster.

This year’s program will encompass both morning Merit Badge sessions and helping Scouts learn a set list of new skills. Scouts can schedule a Merit Badge of their choice for the afternoon block. Scoutmasters will receive a TTFC blue card with requirements Friday before dinner. Staff will NOT sign off Scouts’ books and Scoutmasters are encouraged to verify with the Scouts what material they retained.

Program Offerings & Prerequisites List

Scouts should come to camp with a familiarity of the subjects they will be learning about for the week. Merit Badge pamphlets are available for purchase at the Trading Post but acquiring a book prior to camp is recommended. It is a good idea to bring a notebook and pencil for each Merit Badge session. Scouts with more summer camp experience should not expect to complete more than four (4) Merit Badges. It is not the objective of camp to complete as many Merit Badges as possible, but rather to enjoy the camp program and learn the skills naturally. This way of learning allows campers to gain mastery of the skills learned. Scouts should not be disappointed with partially completed badges from camp. A makeup Merit Badge day will be held July 25th for free for Scouts to complete any Merit Badges they started at Ingawanis. More details to come.

Some Merit Badges will have prerequisites. A prerequisite is something the Scout must do before taking a Merit Badge, (i.e. you must have First Aid before taking Emergency Preparedness) things that cannot be done at camp. For these Merit Badges a Scout will receive a partial card and will have to complete it upon returning home. Notes can be sent from a Merit Badge Counselor or Leader verifying the pre-requirements. If a Merit Badge has an associated fee it will be collected during online registration.

TTFC Scouts MUST register for a C block badge during online registration.

We recommend they focus on Non-Eagle Required badges their first year at IAB!

Ingawanis Baden Powell Troop Award

The Ingawanis Baden-Powell Patrol Award was designed to promote Patrol Spirit and Patrol unity within the Troop as well as encourage use of Patrol Method within the Troop. All requirements for the Ingawanis Baden-Powell Patrol Award are to be done by the entire Patrol as a group and worked on while in camp. Troops interested in pursuing the award must pick-up an application in the Director’s Lodge. Once complete, the form may be turned in to the Camp Commissioners or Program Director.

Adopt-a-Campsite

It is through the dedication of many of our Troops that our campsites have been improved over the years. Please consider adopting and improving a site to make our summer camp better! If a site has already been adopted, please feel free to contact us prior to camp so that we may combine the efforts of our Troops in adopting, improving, and caring for our sites. Signup to get project approved at the Director's Lodge!

Adopt-a-Cabin

Staff Sponsor NEW*

Our Ingawanis staff do a lot to help make camp possible, and we want to help make sure they look sharp and feel prepared to provide a strong program to every scout that comes to camp this summer.

Looking professional is just the beginning! If you are interested in sponsoring the Ingawanis Camp Staff T-Shirts for the summer, please contact Whitney Jensen or Melanie Mellinger at the Scout Office for more information.

Gateway Contest

Every year, Troops coming to camp compete against one another to build a gateway into their campsite. Will your Troop win the gateway competition? Your gateway must be

completed by Thursday evening. The Gateway prize will be awarded to the Troop with the best design and use of Scout craft abilities.

Wednesday Lunch Extravaganza!!

After breakfast on Wednesday, we are inviting everyone to join us out at the south end of camp to join in some fun. We will be showcasing some of our great programs. We will have the climbing tower running all morning along with the rifle and archery ranges. We may also offer other fun activities such as pedal cars, mountain bikes and hatchets. We will be doing lunch under the shelters at OSI and running all activities from 9 am-Noon.

Lunch will be served at the OSI Shelters at Noon.

Geek Hour

We listened to the Scouts and have added a “Geek Hour” that will be held at the Dining Hall on Monday nights. This is an opportunity to get together and play Magic the

Gathering™, Dungeons and Dragons®, board games, Ingawanis Eights (available for purchase of your own deck at the Trading Post), Gaga Ball and any other games you want to play. This will be a great fellowship opportunity for Scouts to interact with Scouts from other units. We have a supply of other games as well. We may even have an organized tournament that you can get into or just come and test your skills against other Scouts! This will also include a Cracker Barrel for everyone. Scouts will be responsible for all items they bring from home and Ingawanis Adventure Base and the Winnebago Council are not responsible for any lost, stolen or damaged items.

Leader’s Appreciation Supper

Thursday evening starting at 6:00 PM, there will be dinner for all leaders who have stayed in camp all week. This event takes place at the Picnic Shelter across the road from the Dining Hall. It is a chance to be with adults for about an hour and share your thoughts about how the week has been going. There is no additional charge for the leaders as the fee is included in their registration.

Closing Campfire

The closing campfire relies on the performances of the Scouts and Scoutmasters in each Troop. Troops should plan on coming to camp prepared with one song or skit for the closing campfire. Add to the Scouting spirit in camp, plan and practice at your Troop meetings before camp. We will be looking for 2 Scouts to help the staff emcee the

(36)

Provisional Campers

A Provisional Scout is a Scout who wants to attend camp a different week from when their Pack comes, or Scouts who want to attend Ingawanis when their Pack may have chosen to attend a different summer camp. This is also a great opportunity for campers who may want to spend more than one week at camp! On arrival at camp,

Provisional Campers will be joined with other Provisional Campers and given an Ingawanis Adventure Base Camp

Staff that will be supervising and staying with the group of campers throughout the week. As for daily schedules and operations, Provisional Campers will get the exact same experience as Scouts attending with a Pack. The only difference is that

Provisional Campers will be meeting a new group of friends and the Camp Staff will take the place of the Cubmaster.

Mountain Biking

Ingawanis Adventure Base offers mountain bike trails for everyone’s skill ability. The trails at camp are host to many local cycling events. Bike trail rides can be done as an individual or as a unit activity.

Troop Canoe Floats

Canoe Floats will take place on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday during Open Program for any Scouts interested in taking a canoe float down the Cedar River. There is not set amount of time for this float, and Scouts may arrive back in camp close to dinner.

(Takes an average of 2.5 hours) Scouts will be required to be Blue Swimmers for this float. Fee - $50 for 20 people

Polar Bear Swim

Each day at 6:30 AM the beginner’s area will be opened for those Scouts and adult leaders who enjoy taking an early dip. This is strictly a “for fun” program.

Free Swim

Each day at 3:00 PM, the swimming area will be open so that Scouts and leaders have an opportunity to have fun, cool off, and enjoy a swim in the afternoon.

Mile Swim

The mile swim award is given to those Scouts who can swim a mile in one attempt. Scouts begin the practice program at 6:00AM on Monday morning.

This requires 4 one Hour Practice sessions to complete the award.

For Adults

The fun and adventure at camp isn’t just for Scouts! We have an exciting program planned for the adults who spend the week with us, too. Just like open times for Scouts we will have open times just for adults. Adult COPE and Adult open swim to name a few.

Adult Leader Supplemental Training

During the week of camp the Council Training Committee will offer training sessions.

These sessions will include the following:

Safe Swim Defense and Safety Afloat

Swimming, kayaking, or any aquatic activity will have potential hazards, even for advanced participants. Lives can be saved with proper

supervision and training; lives can be and have been lost by not following Safety Afloat practices. Safety Afloat training is designed for all authorized boating activities. Adult leaders supervising those activities should have completed their Safety Afloat training within the previous two years.

Basic Climbing Instruction (Session B @ Tower)

This training offers no official certification but allows leaders to understand the safety aspects of our C.O.P.E. and climbing elements, giving them a chance to learn to belay and assist with C.H.E.C.K.

BSA Lifeguard Training (C Block @ The pool)

BSA lifeguard training will be available during open program time for all Youth above age 15 and all Adults. This will allow individuals to supervise BSA swimming activities in lakes, ponds, pools, and rivers. This is an intensive training, and we recommend you look over the physical requirements before signing up for this training.
