First Responder Recognition Campaign
This year Loudoun County Fire and Rescue has launched a campaign to
recognize and honor first responders in our community. First responders
make a difference in our lives and we want to show our appreciation. In
addition to responding to emergency situations, these firefighters and
emergency medical technicians (EMTs) provide public education to our
children by helping them learn to prevent and escape fires, how to call 911,
and how to prevent injuries by following safety precautions such as wearing a
helmet when riding a bike and wearing a seatbelt when riding in a car.
Seldens Landing Elementary School will participate in the First Responder
Campaign by writing letters, drawing pictures and making cards for the 280
first responders in our community. The campaign begins Wednesday,
September 11
thand will continue through Friday, October 12
th. A collection
box will be set up in the school office. We hope to collect enough letters,
cards and pictures so that each of the first responders who serve our
community may be individually recognized.
Children may sign their work with first name only. The first response units
that serve our school community include: Ashburn Volunteer Fire-Rescue,
Ashburn Fire-Rescue, Ashburn Fire-Rescue Lansdowne Station, Aldie Fire and
Aldie Volunteer Fire.
Thank you for participating in the First Responder Recognition Campaign!

November 5, 2013 School Bond Referendum - FACT SHEET
School Bond Referendum
November 5th
Loudoun County residents will be asked to vote on the expansion of two schools and renovations to a current high school when they go to the polls on Tuesday, November 5th.
The projects to be voted upon include:
Mercer Middle School Addition,
$4,310,000
Freedom High School Addition,
$5,010,000
Loudoun County High School Stadium Upgrades, $2,630,000
The total of the amount of the bond referen- dum dedicated to school use is $11,950,000.
Why Is Funding Needed?
Loudoun County Public Schools has been one of the fastest-growing school systems in America for more than a decade. In 1991, Loudoun County had 34 schools and 15,118 students. When school opened on Spetember 3, 2013, LCPS had 84 schools and an estimated 70,855 students.
According to the most recent Capital Improvements Plan adopted by the School Board and Board of Supervisors, enrollment in LCPS will be 72,826 students in 2014; 74,562 in 2015; and 73,676 in 2016.
Why Have Bonds Been Selected as the Method of Funding?
The Board of Supervisors has selected general obligation bonds as the method of funding these projects for Loudoun County Public Schools. General obligation bonds have historically been sold with a 20-year repayment schedule for construction projects. With these schedules, people moving into Loudoun will help pay for the schools that will be built for the county’s increasing school population.
People ask, “What will happen if the school referendums are not approved?”
If the bond referendum is not approved, the Board of Supervisors must find other means of funding the construction of these projects.

The following schools and renovation projects have been approved for bond funding on general election ballots (schools are listed in the year they were opened):
