Admission into the A.D.N. Program
(Priority Admission Status)
To qualify for ‘priority admission status’ applicants must have completed all pre-application requirements AND all co-requisite General Education courses with at least a 3.0 Nursing GPA.
Meeting the minimum standards described here does not guarantee admission into the program.
Application may be submitted at any time if an applicant is in priority status, waiving admission deadlines. (This does not mean that there is an available opening to admit the student at the time of application.)
All requirements must be complete at the time of application and documentation must be submitted stapled to the application. Minimum Requirements:
1. National League of Nursing RN Preadmission Exam (PAX-RN) overall score of at least 105 and a verbal relative performance score of 50 or higher.
2. Must have completed all pre-requisites and co-requisite requirements for the nursing program with a nursing GPA of 3.0 or higher. (Nursing GPA=only courses required for the nursing degree)
3. Documentation of Kentucky State Registered Nursing Aide (SRNA) licensure status, which can be found on the
Kentucky Board of Nursing (KBN) website at: https://secure.kentucky.gov/kbn/bulkvalidation/basic.aspx OR completion of HST 101-Basic Skills I or HST 104-Basic Skills I Clinical, with a grade of “C” or higher.
Recommended Procedure to apply as a “Candidate” for Immediate Admission (Priority Admission Status): 1. Print and complete an ADN Admission Application located on the last page of this Program/Curriculum guide. 2. Submit the original application (dated and with your signature) and staple copies of all required documentation
(including an Academic Program Plan and unofficial copies of ALL previous college transcripts, including JCTC) to the application with the checklist. Be sure that you keep all other original documents and a copy of the application for your
own records.
3. Mark the box at the top of the application indicating that you have completed all pre and co-requisites, have attained the Nursing GPA of 3.0 and scored at least 105 overall and 50 Verbal on the PAX-RN exam.
4. Priority status of an application will be reviewed by the Program Coordinator. Depending on the time of year, the number of applicants and the qualifications of all the applicants, invitations for admission may be sent up to one week
before the semester starts. Meeting the minimum criteria for Priority Admission does not guarantee the applicant
acceptance into the nursing program, nor how quickly the applications are reviewed and notifications of acceptance or denial are sent out.
Decisions Regarding Admissions and Notification of Students
I. Decisions about admission to the Nursing program will be based on the following rank order criteria: a. Scores on the NLN RN Preadmission Exam (PAX-RN; see page 9)
b. Nursing GPA (based upon the pre-requisite and co-requisite courses listed on page 4) c. Grades in required science courses (A&P I, A&P II and Medical Microbiology)
d. Current course enrollment numbers at the time of application (All applications must be reviewed by Selective Admissions Committee.)
II. Notifications to students will be made only by United States Postal Service (U.S.P.S.) and/or email, using the addresses on the application; no information will be given over the phone or to a student in the Nursing Division Office. Notification of the status of an application may be sent up to one week before the beginning of the semester, depending on the applicant pool, program resources, and meeting dates of the Selective Admissions Committee.

Advanced Placement Admission into the A.D.N. Program
(For a Licensed Practical Nurse)
OPTIONS a or b
Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN) currently practicing and licensed in the Commonwealth of Kentucky, have two options available for entering the nursing program. LPNs must meet the same admission standards as all applicants to the nursing program with the following exceptions: State Registered Nurse Aide (SRNA) certification and submission of the PAX-RN score are not required. Instead, validation of the PN license should be submitted in place of the SRNA, and in addition to all listed pre-requisites, the second of the A&P courses (BIO 139 or equivalent) and ENG 101must be completed prior to submission of the application. All co-requisites (listed on page 4) are also required before or in accordance with the nursing courses as listed.)
In order to be eligible for admission to the Associate Degree Nursing Program, students must have a minimum 2.75 GPA on all pre-requisite and co-requisite classes completed prior to admission to the LPN to RN Bridge course or prior to advanced standing placement. Potential Summer Bridge students are also required to take the NLN Nursing Accelerated Challenge Exam (NACE-I.) Dates/times for testing will be posted on the JCTC ADN webpage during the spring semester. Selection of applicants is based on highest pre/co-requisite GPA, and may also be influenced by NACE results.
Applications for Articulation into NSG 206 depends on available space in the class.
An LPN student admitted into a JCTC Associate Degree Nursing Program may be granted credit by one of the following options:
KCTCS Rules of the Senate – Section VI. Appendix D.
a. Articulation: A student who has passed the National Council Licensure Examination—PN (NCLEX-PN) and holds an active unrestricted license for practical/vocational nursing will be awarded credit for the first semester nursing course in a KCTCS Associate Degree Nursing Program. (The student will then complete the three remaining semesters of
nursing.) Licensed Practical/ Vocational Nurses who graduated more than three (3) years prior to admission to a
KCTCS Associate Degree Nursing Program must provide verification of current employment. Current employment is defined as one (1) full year of full-time employment as an LPN/LVN within the last three years. The employment in nursing shall be defined as patient/client contact and shall be verified by the employing agency/agencies using the standardized verification of employment form. The student must meet nursing admissions criteria as stated in the Rules of the Senate, Section IV.3.7.1 & 3.7.2.2, and be accepted into the nursing program for credit to be awarded.
b. Campus-based Summer Bridge Course: A student who has passed the National Council Licensure Examination— PN (NCLEX-PN) and holds an active unrestricted license for practical/vocational nursing and successfully completes Nursing LPN Summer Bridge Course (NSG 196, an abbreviated nursing course) will be awarded credit for the second semester nursing course in a KCTCS Associate Degree Nursing Program (the student will then complete the two
remaining semesters of nursing). Upon successful completion of all components of the course, the student will be
admitted to Nursing Three and will have earned five (5) credit hours for Nursing LPN Summer Bridge Course (NSG 196) and four (4) credit hours for Nursing Two, for a total of nine (9) credit hours.
LPN’s who are interested in the LPN-RN Summer Semester Bridge Course must attend a MANDATORY pre-admission conference during the spring semester in order to obtain an application (see the Campus-Based LPN-RN Bridge Course Curriculum Guide for dates and times). LPN’s interested in articulation into NSG II (NSG 206) may use the application in this ADN Program/Curriculum Guide and remember to check the box at the top of the

REQUESTS FOR TRANSFER
FROM ANOTHER NURSING PROGRAM
Students requesting to transfer into the JCTC Associate Degree Nursing Program from another nursing program, including credit for previous nursing coursework, must provide proof of passing grades in all previously attempted nursing courses. (Passing grade as established by the nursing program where the grade was earned.) Applicants previously admitted to another nursing program, and who have earned a failing grade in any nursing course will not be accepted for admission into the A.D.N. program at JCTC. Potential candidates must meet all admission requirements of the JCTC A.D.N. Nursing Program as outlined in this Program/Curriculum guide. If it has been more than three years since initial enrollment in the first nursing course in any registered nursing program, an applicant must repeat all nursing courses. Beginning summer 2015, Jefferson Community and Technical College will no longer conditionally admit transfer students; students will be required to submit ALL official, postsecondary transcripts to the Registrar’s Office prior to enrollment at Jefferson Community and Technical College. JCTC will require official transcripts even if the student does not plan to use the coursework to satisfy the requirements for the Nursing Degree for the Nursing Program.
Prospective students must also submit an online application to the College. This is a separate process from applying for the Nursing Program.
Requirements:
Three months prior to the expected date of enrollment:
1. Potential candidates must provide a written cover letter stating the reason for transfer, and anticipated placement within the program.
2. Proof of regional academic accreditation of any college(s) previously attended for which the student is requesting transfer credit. (Credit from proprietary, non-regionally accredited schools is not eligible for transfer credit.) 3. IN-formal transcripts from all previously attended colleges.
At least 2 months prior to the anticipated entry date: Submit a Nursing Transfer Admission Packet, which includes:
4. Completed and signed application to the JCTC ADN program.
5. From the previous nursing program: overall nursing program curriculum plus individual course objectives, course outlines, syllabi, and skills/competency list from all nursing courses completed at the previous nursing program. Please note that there is no standard curriculum for nursing programs or nursing courses, so this
information is crucial to establish compatibility of the previous nursing courses with those of JCTC and to determine how much, if any, nursing course credit can be granted to the student.
6. At least two letters of recommendation from the previously attended nursing program. The letters must be signed, dated, and printed on the school letterhead; one from the Nursing Program Director and one from a recent Clinical Instructor, indicating that the student is in good academic and financial standing. These may be sent directly to: Associate Degree Nursing Program Coordinator, Jefferson Community and Technical College, 109 E. Broadway-HSH 442-D, Louisville, KY 40202.

NLN Pre-Admission Exam (PAX-RN)
The PAX-RN is a National League for Nursing (NLN) standardized, computerized test that measures proficiency in Verbal ability (comprehension and vocabulary), Math, and Science at the 12th grade level. All three sections must be taken on the same assigned date. Each section has 40-70 questions and the time allotted for the test is calculated at 1.3 minutes per question. Specific RN Pre-Admission exam study guide is available in the JCTC bookstore, as well as on the NLN website.
It is essential that a student prepare for the exam; per NLN policy, registration for retesting is not permitted until 6 months after a previous exam date. So do not take the exam “just to find out what it is like”. Please see PAX-RN
brochure, which is can be found at:
At JCTC, the exams are administered in the Assessment Center of the JEC Building, room 606 on the scheduled dates (see below). Applicants must take this exam, and score at least 105 overall, with a 50 in the Verbal Relative Performance to be considered for admission into the Associate Degree Nursing Program at JCTC. Results can be printed immediately following the computer-based exam, or retrieved from the NLN website for up to one year after the exam, free of charge. A printed copy of the results must be attached to the application for Admission. Results are not sent to the school.
Applicants for the JCTC Nursing Program may take this test at another college; available locations and dates (including JCTC’s) can be found at www.NLNonlineTesting.org for schools that require online registration. (Some alternate testing sites do on-site registration; these will not be listed on the NLN website.) Registration information may not be available until 4-6 weeks before the test date.
Applicants are responsible for online registration at www.nlnonlinetesting.org Registration requires a payment of
approximately $37. No one will be able to take this exam if they failed to register before the deadline, which is posted on the NLN website. Exams close to an application deadline fill up quickly, so plan ahead. Also, please keep in mind that there is a maximum of 30 available seats when testing at the Jefferson Education Center (JEC) located here at JCTC.
If students have trouble registering on this site, please call NLN customer service at 800-732-8656 (the nursing staff at JCTC cannot assist with this registration process). A confirmation receipt must be printed off the web site at time of registration. The student must bring this voucher, a valid picture ID, and 2nd form of ID to the testing site on the designated date. Sign-ins begins 30 minutes prior to testing. Neither calculators nor cellphone use is allowed during testing.
