Application Instructions and Checklist

Please note:

Students who wish to apply for an internship position through a SIS Summer Abroad Program (seminar plus internship) must do so through the Program website and application. Some positions are available only through the SIS Summer Abroad Programs; see position descriptions for details. N.B. Priority for these positions will be given to students who also participate in the seminar.

This application is for students seeking only an internship abroad. Internships can be registered for credit or can be used to fulfill the MA Professional Experience Requirement.

Applying to a SIS Summer Internship is a two-step process. This application is for the first stage, which is the selection of the School’s nominees for specific internships. Additional application materials may be necessary for the second stage, which is the student application to the internship host.

Instructions:

2. Meet with your academic advisor to gain approval for your participation in your chosen internship. 3. If registering the internship for credit, choose an internship supervisor from the SIS faculty and discuss

his/her availability to supervise the academic component of your internship (some internships will have a supervisor already chosen, see positions for details).

4. E-mail complete application materials (see checklist below) to sisabroad@american.edu in a single e-mail with Name of internship organization, Summer Internship, (your name) in the subject line. If you are applying to multiple internships, please use the name of your first choice internship organization in the subject line, and include a resume and cover letter for each separate position (clearly marked) to which you are applying N.B. You must open the application forms in Adobe Reader (not Preview) to save your typed data into the form.
