Description

Use cutting-edge equipment to image the body.

Perform diagnostic imaging scans for a variety of health care providers. Aid physicians in analysis of disease and injury.

Radiologic Technologists are medical personnel who perform diagnostic imaging examinations. They are educated in anatomy, patient positioning, examination techniques, equipment protocols, radiation safety, and radiation protection.

They specialize in specific imaging techniques in bone densitometry, cardiovascular-interventional radiography, computed tomography, mammography, magnetic resonance imaging, nuclear medicine, quality management, sonography or general radiography.

Registered Radiologic Technologists (R.T.'s) must complete at least two years of formal education in an accredited hospital-based program or a two-or four year educational program at an academic institution and must pass a National certification examination. To remain registered, they must earn continuing education credits. Program graduates who pass the national certification exam given by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) will be certified as a Registered Technologist in Radiography. {ARRT (R)}

Prior to applying to the program, please contact the ARRT to determine eligibility if:

you have ever been convicted of a misdemeanor, felony, or a similar offense in a military court martial;

you have had any professional license, permit, registration or certification denied, revoked, suspended, placed on probation, under consent agreement or consent order, voluntarily surrendered or subjected to any conditions or disciplinary actions by a regulatory authority or certification board other than ARRT;

you have ever been suspended, dismissed or expelled from an educational program that you attended in order to meet ARRT certification requirements

College Credit

All Tulsa Tech students (high school and adult) may have the opportunity to receive college credit upon completion of their program. Our College Relations office will work with students regarding the benefits of Prior Learning Assessments (PLA) toward an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree or a technical college certificate at area colleges. Entrance Requirements

Adult students only (age 18 or older) High school diploma or G.E.D. Basic computer literacy

As of January 1, 2015, the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) require candidates for certification to have earned an associate (or more advanced) degree from an institution accredited or recognized by ARRT. Applicants will be given preference depending on a conferred degree and/or total college credits earned.

Adults / 22 months (all day) Adult sessions:

Mon-Fri: 7:45 A.M. - 2:30 P.M.

A new class begins each July and lasts for approximately 22 months. Classroom days are 7:45 am -2:30 pm. Most clinical rotations are scheduled for the daytime hours of 7:00am to 3:00pm, three (3) days per week; however, some clinical rotations are scheduled during evening and weekend hours.

The program’s curriculum is based on two years of full-time study of 2535 hours of contact.

Plan of Study

Additional Requirements

Prior to the start of the program, students must:

Undergo a criminal background check including sex offender registration as required by the Oklahoma Child Care Facilities Licensing Act that requires individuals providing care to children under the age of 18 to be free of any criminal history that would indicate a potential for violent abuse against another person. Information provided on the criminal background check may impact student clinical eligibility.

Provide verification of immunizations through vaccination records, titer (blood test) results, or declination statements. A list of specific immunizations may be obtained through the Health Sciences Center by calling 918.828.1216.

Have a current American Heart Association CPR for the Healthcare Provider card. Provide transportation to clinical sites.

Adult students must pay a liability insurance fee for clinicals. This fee is charged for each Tulsa Tech fiscal year (July 1st to June 30th).

Adult students must pay a drug screening fee for clinicals. The drug screening is required for all students and will be completed sometime before clinicals.

Adult students must pay a fee to participate in the online immunization tracking system. NOTE: Fees associated with the requirements above are included in tuition/fees/books section
