Keeping active

Experience has taught us that when older people continue to enjoy an active life, they benefit from improved physical and mental health, increased self-esteem and a sense of wellbeing.

At Care UK, we call this Activity Based Care (ABC) and it is at the heart of everything we do at The Terrace. Whether making a cup of tea, laying the table or performing other everyday tasks, we will provide the support needed to help residents to remain as independent as possible. Everyone will set their own pace, no-one will ever be rushed or made to do anything they don’t feel like doing - our support and encouragement will simply be there if needed.

At The Terrace, our Activities Coordinator works closely with our residents to organise both group and one-to-one activities that everyone will enjoy. All activities are completely optional, of course, but for those who would like to participate, we offer manicures, carpet bowls, bingo, crafts, themed days, poetry afternoons and visits from entertainers. We also have access to a minibus so we regularly organise visits to places of interest such as the National Railway Museum in Darlington and shows at the Darlington Civic Theatre.

A warm welcome

We all want the best for the people we love, but there may come a time, particularly if you’re responsible for the care of an older relative, when it becomes difficult to cope or to ensure the very best quality of care at home.

At this point, moving your loved one to a professional care home is often the best way forward. Here at The Terrace we understand that this can often be an emotionally difficult decision, but should you decide this is right for your relative, we’ll be there to help.

Our people

When we recruit new members of staff, we’re just as interested in their caring, compassionate natures as we are in their qualifications and experience. After all, it’s those personal skills that make all the difference between good care and great care.

Every one of our residents will experience this difference for themselves. Care is tailored around the individual, and residents are always treated with dignity and respect. The comfort and health of our residents is our main priority and we work on a one-to-one basis to ensure each individual receives the care and attention he or she needs to live a happy, fulfilling life. As part of Care UK, we are committed to continually improving the level of care received by our residents and provide ongoing staff training to ensure this is achieved.

Tempting menus

Mealtimes at The Terrace are an opportunity for residents to enjoy tasty, nutritionally balanced meals in good company. We offer relaxed, comfortable surroundings, with a member of staff on hand at all times and individual assistance provided if needed.

Every day our chef selects fresh, seasonal ingredients and plans tasty, nutritious menus around residents’ individual likes and dislikes as well as any special dietary and cultural requirements. We make sure there is always plenty of choice on each menu and our chef enjoys finding out what residents’ favourite meals are so they can be regularly included. We ensure snacks, fresh fruit and refreshments are available 24 hours a day. For celebrations, such as birthdays or anniversaries, we’re delighted to provide party food or something special to mark the occasion.

The Terrace always extends a cordial invitation to family and friends who are warmly invited to join us for meals, whenever they wish to.

Home comforts

All bedrooms at The Terrace are comfortable and of a good size and most have en-suite facilities. Each is equipped with stylish furniture, and there’s a television connection and a 24-hour nurse call system fitted as standard. Some of these rooms lead out into the garden, whilst others have fantastic views of Richmond. We encourage residents to personalise their rooms and where possible to bring in small pieces of furniture or other treasured items that will help to create a space that’s familiar and comforting to them.

Throughout our home, we have a choice of rooms so residents can choose to socialise with friends or visitors or opt for some quiet time to read or relax. We also have a hair salon and games room.

Outside, residents and their visitors enjoy spending warm days in our pleasant gardens which feature patio, lawned and terraced areas as well as a greenhouse which is put to good use by residents with an interest in gardening.
