“Boring Jesus”
Recently, I confessed to a fellow priest that, “Jesus is boring.” Honestly, it hurt to admit that I found Jesus boring. After praying about “boring Jesus,” I heard these words from God, “Paul, my Son is not boring, instead you are not giving my Son the time He deserves.” God was right. I was not giving Jesus the time he deserved; a daily holy hour. This revelation brought much peace and consolation to my life. Therefore, it is important for me to go back to the basics and make A.C.T.S. to renew my relationship with “boring Jesus.” That begs the questions, what are these A.C.T.S.?
Adoration. As Catholics, we have the greatest, most powerful gift, the Eucharist. Not only do we have the opportunity to receive Christ sacramentally every time we participate in the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, but we also have opportunities to adore Christ’s presence in the Blessed Sacrament. When is the last time you have attended Eucharistic adoration? At St. Mary’s, we are blessed to have both an adoration chapel and a Tuesday night holy hour, providing opportunities for all parishioners to experience the quiet, peaceful presence of Christ through Eucharistic adoration.
Confession. A wise priest once said, “If you are in the communion line, then you should be in the confession line.” When is the last time you received God’s mercy through Confession, i.e. the Sacrament of Reconciliation. Confession is not to be feared, but to be embraced. As human beings with an inclination to sin, we sometimes allow our sins to define us, and consequently can feel bogged down; mentally, spiritual, and even physically. How can you “Let it go and begin again?” Seek out the mercy of Jesus Christ in the Sacrament of Reconciliation and let Christ take away your burdens.
Thanksgiving. What are you thankful for in life? If there was a class titled:
Prayer 101, the introduction of the class would begin with thanksgiving. Perhaps the best way to grow in your relationship with Jesus is to name what you are thankful for in life. Seriously, right now, name ten things you are thankful for in your life today …….. At times we can fall into the habit of believing that God has “jipped” us because we compare ourselves to others. Consequently, we become jealous and envious. What’s the solution? Thanksgiving! Name ten things you are thankful for that God has given you and watch how you’ll develop a new appreciation for Christ.
Supplication. What do you need from God? Making supplication means letting God know what we need from Him. We are pretty good about making lists.
We make lists when we buy groceries or daily “to do lists,” and more. What’s on your list of needs to God? Yes, God knows the inner most desires of your heart, but God wants to hear your needs from you. God is a God of freedom, not force and manipulation. God wants you, in freedom, to tell Him what you need in life, so don’t hold back. Then, pray to Christ the words He offered to the Father in the Garden of Gethsemane, “Thy will be done.”
Jesus is not boring. Rather, what we do can become more important than who we are. And I am no different. No matter your job, no matter your vocation, even as a priest, we can put Jesus last when Christ wants to be in everything we do. In order to see Christ in the totality of our lives, and not risk seeing Him as “Boring Jesus,” we can commit A.C.T.S to grow deeper in relationship with Jesus Christ: Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication.

TWENTY-EIGHTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
Focus: Discipleship requires courage.
God’s call to faithful discipleship promises unimaginable blessings and requires radical trust in God’s providence.
Like the rich young man, we have futures to get ready. We cannot do it alone – for it is only with God that all things are possible.
In the first reading, King Solomon entreats and encounters Wisdom and is granted blessings that pale only in comparison to Wisdom herself. In the second reading, the author writes, the word of God is living and effective, sharper than any two-edged sword. In the Gospel, Jesus has an exchange with a young man of many possessions, who asks what he must do to inherit eternal life.
PART ONE - THE PROFESSION OF FAITH
SECTION TWO – THE CREEDS I BELIEVE IN GOD THE FATHER THE FATHER
244. The eternal origin of the Holy Spirit is revealed in his mission in time. the Spirit is sent to the apostles and to the Church both by the Father in the name of the Son, and by the Son in person, once he had returned to the Father.
69The sending of the person of the Spirit after Jesus' glorification
70reveals in its fullness the mystery of the Holy Trinity.
Your prayers are requested for the souls of
Susan Stephan Del Ehrman
(Father of Don Ehrman)
“May their souls and the souls of all the faithful departed through the mercy of God rest in peace.”

TRAVELING MARY IS BACK!!
What is it??
The traveling Mary, Our Lady of Grace statue is a tool to encourage families to come together to pray for vocations and to encourage young people to be open to the priesthood or religious life.
The aim of the traveling Mary statue is to help the parish families become more aware of the need for vocations and of the possibility that God may be calling a member of their family to serve the Church in this way. Vocations become a normal conversation topic in the household, and individuals are able to learn more about the beauty of vocations.
How it Works
Families sign up to host
Mary, Our Lady of Grace statue for one week (Sunday – Friday), gathering around the statue daily and using the Lanterian Prayer booklet to pray for vocations along with any other prayers of their choosing. The family will be invited forward to pick up the statue after the announcements, just before the final blessing. They will then return the statue to the parish office on the following Friday so it can be passed along to another family within the Sunday masses. If the parish office is closed, please drop the statue off at the rectory.
Families who hosted the statue do not have to be present at the mass where the statue is passed on to another family. Please call the parish office at (618) 465-4284 to schedule a time for your family to spend with Mary.
