Hope everyone is doing well and the Christmas spirit is just busting to get out! The new art categories this month seemed to be a hit. We were able to judge each category. Now that there are no “steps to climb” in the art categories you need to put on those artistic caps and enter all the categories. Now is when you strive to become Artist of the Year. (4) Featured Artist Sherri Domenigoni. Photo Gallery. “I’ve been with HVAA since 1973— a wonderful, growing art adventure, thanks to our long-time watercolor teachers Barbara Parish and Joyce Thomas. But my lifelong interest and passion is nature photography.” Sherri was born in Vallejo, California, and moved to Hemet in 1972. She lives in Hemet with her husband, Don. They fequently retreat to their family Idyllwild cabin. There, she has taught Jr. Naturalist programs at the Nature Center and led National Audubon Society bird tours and Christmas Bird Counts for decades. She raised two children while earning an A.S. degree in Biology from Mt. San Jacinto College; a B.S. in Biology from UC Riverside; and a teaching credential from CSU San Bernardino. Sherri has taught preschool through college, but most of her career for 25 years was in teaching middle school Science for San Jacinto Unified School District as a mentor teacher. She earned a master’s in Education from LaVerne University and is past president of the Mt. San Jacinto College Foundation. She served as scholarship chair for several community groups, and was honored by Who’s Who of American Women for Lifetime Achievement. Now retired, she is enjoying a renaissance in art with awardwinning photography, watercolor, acrylics, and murals. Recently, she created “Birdie,” a life-size painted deer, for Idyllwild’s famous deer herd. Next, she painted a large heart-shaped sculpture for the Loma Linda Children’s Center transplant “Hearts of Hope.” She belongs to many local art, teaching, and nature associations. She has written and illustrated four children’s books: The Lemon Lily Fairy, The Creature Teacher, Birdie’s Deer Tales, and now, The Firebird of the Forest.. HVAA—December 2021.
