Project Summary:

Our neighborhood school has strong ties to the community, made even stronger by our dedicated parents and families. As an accredited Core

Knowledge school, our students develop impressive skills in social studies, science, literature, mathematics and the arts. They also have regular classes in visual arts, technology, music and physical education. We are especially proud of our library, which annually circulates more than 40,000 books from an updated collection.

It was originally constructed in 1915 at 26,983 square feet. Later additions were completed in 1920, 1923, and 2013. It is now 50,912 square feet.

Issues Identified By School Community In 2015

1. Instructional Spaces and gathering spaces outfitted for technology 2. Kitchen with dishwasher

3. More storage - books/supplies/materials 4. Parent/community room for gatherings, etc.

5. Evolve library to include media center and technology

6. Improved and additional restrooms - more sinks and toilets - better supervision 7. More space - Instructional Spaces, offices, flexible spaces, staff work areas 8. Larger, safer gym and other areas for physical activity and movement 9. Cafeteria with kitchen adjacent to playground - better acoustics 10. Visible, accessible welcoming front office and entry

General Notes:

Existing utilization shown is for School Year 2014-2015

The Conceptual Utilization Plans are exploratory rather than actual construction plans and represent the design at one moment in time, which will change as the design and funding process progress.

The Conceptual Plans are included as a way to organize scopes of work into logical, efficient and meaningful projects. There is no prioritization implied in a work scope title (e.g. “Work Scope A” is not necessarily the most critical work to be done).

The plans in this document are not comprehensive of the entire building’s needs as maintenance and replacement of existing building systems such as roofs and mechanical systems are omitted to maintain graphic clarity of the overall vision generated during the Facilities Master Plan Process.

Formal zoning reviews have not been undertaken for the proposed work shown in these plans. A review with zoning and building code authorities will occur once the funding is secured.
