TASK TYPE OVERVIEW:

In this task type, the student reads an informational essay presented as if written by a peer. The student is asked to answer questions related to the essay.

ELD STANDARDS:

PI.B.6 – Read closely literary and informational texts and viewing multimedia to determine how meaning is conveyed explicitly and implicitly through language.

PI.B.7 – Evaluate how well writers and speakers use language to support ideas and opinions with details or reasons depending on modality, text, type purpose, audience, topic, and content area.

PI.B.8 – Analyze how writers and speakers use vocabulary and other language resources for specific purposes (to explain, persuade, entertain, etc.) depending on modality, text, type, purpose, audience, topic, and content area.

PII.A.1 – Understand text structure and organization based on purpose, text type and discipline.

Football

1 Do you want to know the best sport ever? Football is the best sport. We should be able to play football at recess. We should be able to play football because it’s fun.

2 Everyone likes football. Everyone watches the Superbowl because they love football. When we play football, we have fun. If you get the ball everyone runs after you and tries to grab it.

We run around screaming and we have fun.

3 Everyone in our class knows how to play. For example, I can be the quarterback and Jessie can be the receiver. Even our teacher knows how to play. She told us. We would not leave

anyone out. Please let us play!

4 Another reason why we should have football is it is good for us. You get to run, throw, and catch. For example, one time I was playing with my brothers and my dog caught the ball. We had to chase after Rufus to get the ball back. I asked my brother and he said, “I get the best workout when I play football.”

5 Football is good exercise. We would be happy if we could play football. Everyone would love it!!! Please let us play!



2 Chuck E. Cheese’s food is excellent! Their pepperoni pizza is mouthwatering. The salads are great with diced tomatoes. The selections of veggies are endless and very good. The macaroni has a special ingredient in it. The food is scrumptious at Chuck E. Cheese’s.

3 While you are waiting for your food, you can play games at the arcade. It makes time fly! You have to insert coins into each arcade game. Each game costs 1 coin. If you do good, you get a lot of tickets to buy fun stuff. So, it is not wasting your money parents! The motor games such as the Snowmobile, four-wheeler, motorcycle, and car are great.

School Year Time

1 I do not think school should be year-round. Do you think school should be year-round?

2 My first reason why school should not be year-around is because we would not have summer vacation. Students would not be able to go on family vacations.

3 Also, Teachers would not have time for vacation. Even if you are not at school, you can still learn things. Teachers can also learn things outside of school.

4 Another reason is that kids need to expend their energy. They can use their energy outdoors to have run around and have fun. During the summer, it is very hot indoors and children would spend a lot of time thinking about being outside, not at school. Children usually like warm or hot weather.

5 I know that towards the end of the year, I look forward to summer vacation. I think other children do, too! If a student wants to continue learning during the summer, they can take classes or read about that subject. I do not think school needs to be year-round!


